Banyan Tree Bangkok in Bangkok, Thailand

There’s something to be said for a 21st-story outdoor swimming pool, but Banyan Tree Bangkok is not just a vertical resort. Situated in one of Southeast Asia’s most dynamic cultural centers, amidst the best retail and entertainment, this is a headquarters of sophistication. It even offers a “shopping companion” to guide you through the city’s alleyways. And with its aromatherapy burner, even your room is a journey for the senses. The restaurant’s 53rd-floor restaurant Taihei serves sake and sashimi in the clouds, and everyone from concierge to massage therapist extends the hospitality for which Thailand is known.

Indulge in a breakfast of banana pancakes and a traditional Thai coffee, sweetened with condensed milk. Energized, visit Bangkok’s Grand Palace, the home of Thailand’s president, and stroll through the famous Buddhist temple Wat Pho, home of the giant Reclining Buddha. On your way to the river, you’ll only need a couple dozen baht to enjoy the street food: chicken satay, mango sticky rice, roast pork belly or a shell of coconut milk. Board Banyan Tree’s own “Aspara” riverboat and enjoy an elegant dinner of crab in coconut broth as you see the traditional floating markets in action.

The Hotel chain of Banyan Tree has never disappointed me. No exception to the Banyan Tree Bangkok due to the followings 1) rooms are spacious, clean, elegantly designed with a touch of Thai 2) club floor worths the money 3) Service is excellent 4) plenty of top quality catering outlets already in the hotel, bringing the gourmet experience unsurpassable 5) award winning spa is a must try every time I go to Bangkok The down side is the distance to BTS, especially in hot weather

We’ve planned to stay in a 5-Star hotel - Banyan Tree Bangkok for a leisure vacation purpose from 15-17 Mar as the reputation and the brand name of the hotel is great. The SPA service is excellent and most of the people are very nice except the one who is wearing the pink uniform and working in the reception area. Her attitude is not very good and she is the one I felt not respectful to others. To be a 5-Star hotel and providing a professional and excellent services to the customers are the most important things because it gains the customers’ loyalty plus confidence and it made us to decide to come back again for our next journey. I understood that the services might not be as good as a 5-star hotel if I were staying in a motel/2-3 Star hotel. For my next journey, Banyan Tree Bangkok would not be my first choices of hotels to staying at.

Went to the Vertigo & Moon Bar at the Banyan Tree Hotel and wooow what a view! On the 61st floor you get to see Bangkok from high above. The staff is incredibly accommodating and friendly and the bartenders know their stuff. Had a Gin Tonic for 765 Baht, but think that‘s absolutely ok as the hotel is high-end. Was definitely worth coming!

For me, Banyan Tree has always uniquely represented a homegrown Asian brand on par with many of the best international hospitality providers. Last time I stayed in a Banyan Tree was in Phuket more than fifteen years ago. I had an extremely exquisite experience and so was looking forward to it when I was booked for two nights in BT Bangkok this week. Well it appears that BT’s popularity has not waned. In fact I was a little surprised to find the lobby full of tourists upon arrival. It was honestly a little noisy and not tranquil as I had imagined. After a reasonably friendly check-in exercise, I got to my room 4210. Nice generous layout with a sitting room and work station. The requested king size bed is in an adjacent bedroom which came with an attached four piece bathroom. All the little touches that BT is known for; essential oil diffuser, incense burner, daily alternating fruit plate, bedtime gifts, customised BT toiletries are all there. Yet it felt very different this time around. While the resort concept fifteen years ago was de rigueur for that period, it felt very old fashioned and dated this time around. One would have expected a young brand like BT to continue evolving and reinvent themselves. Instead it looks like they are still stuck in the 1990’s. BT Bangkok is in dire need for a refurbishment and makeover. The room interior looked so tired, faded and dull. The carpet most certainly needed a good shampoo. The dark timber wall panelling looked aged. For me BT appears to have lost its lustre and vivacity. What a shame.
