We stayed only one night, arriving after dark and leaving early the next morning, so we didn't see much of the surroundings. However, we did get to try the restaurant and the bar area which overlooked the pool and the river. Both the restaurant and bar were excellent and very reasonably priced. I was initially going to give the hotel 5/5 and then decided to give it 4/5 - if only there was a 4.5/5 option. As we were only staying overnight we chose the cheapest city view rooms and found them to be large, clean and despite some comments to the contrary, pretty quiet. If you are staying longer you might want to go for a river view room for a better view. This hotel in in a perfect location for anyone heading off on the 7.50am Burma (Death) Railway train from Bangkok Thonburi station. The station is only a 10min taxi ride across the river and starting from here you miss all the traffic. The restaurant just opens up early enough to grab a quick bite to eat before heading off. One word of caution, the hotel is located in a maze of streets that makes it difficult for taxi and uber drivers to find. My recommendation is print off a map beforehand or have your map app open to help guide the driver.

This is an attractive modern 4-star hotel. It is fairly small (4 floors) which avoids the "conference hotel" vibe. It has a colorful location on the river: river traffic passes by and you can take boats from the hotel's landing stage. Despite other comments, it is not noisy at night after the big cruise boats have finished their dinner cruises before 10:00 PM. Our room and bathroom were a reasonable size, but remember room size varies considerably with price. The restaurant had buffet and table service, with Thai and Western food. Service was excellent throughout. Definitely recommended in its price range.

We stayed at the Riva Surya for 3 nights ending our tour of Thailand, making it easy to fly back from Bangkok (The airport is a short drive away). If we return to Bangkok, this will be our hotel choice again. We had a Riva river view room on the top floor (5th). We recommend a river view and high floor. The room had a balcony with furniture. Watching the cruise ships and boats from the balcony was just great. The hotel is well run, modern and spotlessly clean. The staff are very welcoming and helpful. There is a great pool with sunbeds and bar area. Wi fi is good everywhere. The location is excellent, near to the markets, palace and good bars and restaurants (Try "Peeps" across the road, a really good family restaurant). Also next to the piers where you can get the boat taxis so easy to explore. Thank you Riva Surya for the lovely welcome cake! We hope to be back soon.

The moment you walk into the Riva Surya you feel you've walked into an oasis of calm. The decor is wonderful, the rooms (I would definitely recommend the river view rooms) were well appointed and very comfortable. The breakfasts were a delight, lovely choice, very tasty and even offered eggs benedict. The staff can't do enough for you and are always cheerful. As for the location, well if you've come to Bangkok to visit the temples then it is perfect. Situated directly on the Chao Phraya river you only need walk a few minutes through the hotel, along the river walk and you arrive at the ferry boat stop. At a cost of 50 Baht you can go anywhere along their route however the temples were just a couple of stops away. We also wanted to visit a floating market whilst staying in Bangkok and there was a stand on the river walk just outside our hotel selling trips. We took a long boat trip to Talin Chan market travelling through the khlongs (canals). Fascinating to see how people live along these parts. The only downside was we would loved to have spent longer at the floating market. It was enough to get round but would like to have had time to sample some of the food there. We also wanted to take in a Thai boxing tournament at Rajadamnern Stadium which is only a short taxi ride away. As we had three full days there we managed to visit Wat Arun, Wat Pho, the Grand Palace, Talin Chan market and still managed to spend the afternoons relaxing in and around the lovely pool at Riva Surya. In the evening, once again you are in a great position for numerous bars, restaurants and street stalls. Just turn left out of the hotel , cross the road and turn down Chana Song Khram and you will come upon Soi Rambuttri. Great places to eat and drink and great atmosphere. Continue on and you can visit the famous Khao San road although it was too noisy for us! All in all a wonderful place to stay and would absolutely recommend it. Thanks Riva Surya for making our stay in Bangkok so memorable.

Great location close to khao san road. Good service as staff were very friendly and helpful. We went for our honeymoon and were surprised with a chocolate mousse cake that said happy honeymoon on it. Room had an awesome view of the river and was very clean. Pool was also clean. Only downside was drinks were expensive but that was to be expected at a high end resort.
