Villa Le Maschere in Barberino di Mugello, Italy

Located in the Tuscan countryside, just a short ride from Florence, sits the fashionable Villa Le Maschere. Its stately exterior and luxury status comes from a mélange of centuries-old tradition and cutting-edge hospitality. The building dates back to the 18th century and its architectural features - the stunning frescoes and Venetian plaster - are proof positive. Inside, a new day has dawned with a collection of modern furnishings designed and produced on Italian soil. There are 65 minimalist-style guest rooms that rest beneath hand-painted ceilings, housed in either the Chini Pavilion or the main villa. Crisp color schemes are infused with bold splashes of red, sage, eggplant and ebony, and billowy fabrics frame canopied beds and windows. Bathrooms are cloaked in cool Italian marble and outfitted with large and inviting soaking tubs. Public spaces are equally striking with ultra modern embellishments.

Italy is known for its stunning gardens, and Villa Le Maschere is no exception. A sweeping staircase leads from the terrace down to sprawling park-like grounds, where a pair of swimming pools provide a refreshing escape on warm seasonal days. There is a delightful restaurant where elegant buffets are laid out for guests to enjoy a leisurely meal. The intimate bar is a place to retreat in the evening for an aperitif and conversation. Villa Le Maschere is near Lago di Bilancino as well as the small village of Barberino di Mugello. You can also spend the day in Florence scouring the many renowned museums, piazzas and public markets - or seek out a lush vineyard for an Italian-style picnic. For a revival of tradition with a contemporary twist, experience Villa Le Maschere.

We stayed in Villa le Maschere for 3 nights arranged by our tour operator. Of course, it is a beautiful hotel in the picturesque Tuscan countryside. But as a tourist, I would have wanted to stay some place where public transportation is easily accessible so we may explore Florence more. It is a wonderful and relaxing place to stay if you are an Italian on a holiday. The design of the hotel is a perfect mix of classic and modern. However, there are so many hallways and twists and turns inside the hotel that finding your room or lift or restaurant can be difficult. But yet it is a memorable place.

What a beautiful place this is! My husband and I enjoyed a 2 night break here for his birthday - from arrival to departure all staff we encountered greeted us warmly! Nothing was too much trouble for them! We received a lovely gift of a fruit basket for his birthday! The building is stunning! The room we had was large and very comfortable with a lovely view! Lovely bathroom too! The only (very small) downside is that we found the wifi to be a bit erratic, sometimes fine and sometimes painfully slow! As we came to relax this wasn't a big problem for us but I can see how this may be a deal breaker for some potential visitors. It's situated in the beautiful Tuscan countryside with stunning grounds! Thank you for a wonderful stay and we hope to return to enjoy you hospitality again!

Beautiful hotel with fantastic service. A special mention to Eduardo. However, please note that the "shuttle service to Florence" is one minibus only at 9.30am to Florence and 5.30pm back so this is not really a practical hotel if your focus is Florence. Also, they do not allow you to use the shuttle bus if you are arriving or departing from Florence to the hotel and want to take your luggage. This really is not made clear at all on the website. So basically, it's a £80 taxi journey each way to Florence. If you're looking for a fab hotel in the middle of the Tuscan countryside and have a car at your disposal, then this is lovely. But please don't think of it as a practical base for Florence.

Beautiful Historic Villa lovingly restored to its' former 19th century grandeur when it was a summer residence belonging to the descendants of the Medicis of Florence. We stayed for 3 nights and enjoyed the peace and tranquility of the surroundings and the wonderful views of the Tuscan Hills. Spa facilities are limited but my dear wife definitely recommends the massage. The Hotel staff were most welcoming and gave very attentive and considerate service throughout our stay. We took evening meals in the Restaurant twice and found the menu offered an excellent if not extensive choice. Yes the Hotel is not Florence Central because the city is 30kms to the south but the Hotel Taxi Service( Free) takes you right to the heart of Florence in approx 40 minutes if sightseeing and museums are a must. If you want to shop till you drop then Italy's biggest outlet centre is just 5 minutes down the road in Barberino. Couldn't drag my dear wife away from it!! Will definitely return for another taste of Tuscan and Italian hospitality with style thrown in.
