Villa Le Maschere in Barberino di Mugello, Italy

Located in the Tuscan countryside, just a short ride from Florence, sits the fashionable Villa Le Maschere. Its stately exterior and luxury status comes from a mélange of centuries-old tradition and cutting-edge hospitality. The building dates back to the 18th century and its architectural features - the stunning frescoes and Venetian plaster - are proof positive. Inside, a new day has dawned with a collection of modern furnishings designed and produced on Italian soil. There are 65 minimalist-style guest rooms that rest beneath hand-painted ceilings, housed in either the Chini Pavilion or the main villa. Crisp color schemes are infused with bold splashes of red, sage, eggplant and ebony, and billowy fabrics frame canopied beds and windows. Bathrooms are cloaked in cool Italian marble and outfitted with large and inviting soaking tubs. Public spaces are equally striking with ultra modern embellishments.

Italy is known for its stunning gardens, and Villa Le Maschere is no exception. A sweeping staircase leads from the terrace down to sprawling park-like grounds, where a pair of swimming pools provide a refreshing escape on warm seasonal days. There is a delightful restaurant where elegant buffets are laid out for guests to enjoy a leisurely meal. The intimate bar is a place to retreat in the evening for an aperitif and conversation. Villa Le Maschere is near Lago di Bilancino as well as the small village of Barberino di Mugello. You can also spend the day in Florence scouring the many renowned museums, piazzas and public markets - or seek out a lush vineyard for an Italian-style picnic. For a revival of tradition with a contemporary twist, experience Villa Le Maschere.

A lovely restored villa, elegant, clean, luxurious with the most attentive staff. Our 5 might stay has been a dream. The rooms are stunning from the basic ones up. The views are outstanding of the Tuscan countryside. The hotel provides a free shuttle to Florence daily which is a plus. The facilities are numerous with outdoor pools and areas of lounges set up in the grounds to laze in the sunshine. A spa with hot tub and sauna await you in the basement overlooking the pool terrace. Breakfast is a wonderful spread and can be eaten in the bright restaurant or out on the terrace. Their restaurant serves high quality food with excellent staff to cater to all your requests. An amazing place in a beautiful setting. Well worth a visit.

A beautiful hotel set in a stunning surroundings with a most amazing team of staff! Fantastic rooms, clean and crisp. Location about 45 minutes from Florence airport. Pre arrival, Silvia and her team went above and beyond, and helped me arrange my stay from accommodation to treatments, wine tasting, restaurants outside the hotel and taxis. Christina in the restaurant was amazing! She was friendly and helpful, guiding us with the wines with our meals. And Veronica and her colleague in the spa were exceptional. The treatments we had were amazing! Thank you all, my friends and I had an amazing time and are looking forward to coming back!

Impressive estate in a beautiful, wild Tuscan countryside with large rooms, spa with pools and a good restaurant and bar. It's surrounded by woods and is very quiet at night. The food is very good. There isn't much around it, but you can go for a walk in the woods or use the spa/pool. They also provide a shuttle to Florence, which is about 45min away. We left our car and took the shuttle and stayed in Florence for a couple of days as driving/parking in Florence is insane. Knowing what I know now, I would probably just take the shuttle to Florence daily but stay at this place at night, because hotels in Florence are really overpriced and for the same price you're paying at this villa you'll get a room in the city that is many levels below what this place is.
