Melia Barcelona Sky in Barcelona, Spain

Etched in the European landscape is the beautiful town of Barcelona. Among all the historic and Gothic buildings is a modern structure that reaches towards the heavens, known to savvy travelers asMelia Barcelona Sky. Its location amidst the cultural landmarks of Catalonia is most definitely an enviable one. Guest rooms take on a minimalist approach with streamlined furnishings and splashes of bold color set against a backdrop of neutral tones. The Level, a floor holding a collection of spacious suites high atop the hotel, provides exclusive services to guests such as private check-in and evening cocktails, plus panoramic views of the city below.

While the selection of restaurants fills a basic necessity, it is also an experience for the senses. The settings are sexy, the food infused with zest, and the service quite extraordinary. The SKY Food Bar whips up flavorful fresh-market cuisine with a hint of Spanish spices, while Dos Cielos has a more deliberate take on dining with its celebrated chefs, innovative cuisine and al fresco seating options. The worldly Angels & Kings Club is the go-to place for getting into your dancing, sipping creatively-named cocktails and tapas plus enjoying stunning terrace views. The club even has its own swimming pool where guests can make quite the splash. After a late night of lounging, head to the YHI Spa the next afternoon to pamper your body with water rituals and treatments borrowed from the Mayan and Aztec cultures. ME Barcelona is both sophisticated and playful, striking a perfect balance for its diverse group of guests.

Nicely appointed hotel with views to the beach or downtown. Easy walk to the beaches but a subway trip to downtown Barcelona - a good spot if you want to stay away from the busy core. Helpful staff and good service complements the modern decor.

I second the opinion of the previous reviewer. The breakfast experience here was by far the worst that we had ever had - and I've had many hotel breakfasts in my time! Everything was VERY slow and disorganised - no one seemed to be in charge and the food was terrible. That said, when we raised this with the manager Maria she apologised and resolved the matter quickly and professionally. The reason for the high rating is that the check in service from Gina was second to none - the reception staff were very well trained. I have to say that the 'snack' offering on the Level was very poor - there was hardly ever anything there. There's also not much of an atmosphere on the Level with very bright lighting. Would recommend the hotel as the rooms are nice and serviced well but not the breakfast or the Level.

Third morning of breakfast at the level in melia sky Barcelona! Day one - Arrived for breakfast- no information given on where food was or wether we helped ourselves or buffet style No plates Had to ask for coffee Tea brought to table but no milk offered had to go and get it ourselves. No new cutlery offered No tablespoons laid on table No English speaking staff on omelette station- Had to fill a form out to get eggs / omelette!! According to sign by station - had to ask an English speaking member of staff to do this. Fried eggs arrived after I had finished breakfast. Day two was almost as bad and continued the theme of disorganisation. Just been to breakfast for third time and another bad experience! Two tables around us got offered coffee , juice etc and we just looked at each other in amazement- claire went to get coffee and tea, I got the orange juice. Whilst claire was pouring my coffee one of the serving staff said “ I can do that “ claire said to her “ you have just walked past us three times and ignored us - “ This is not a five star hotel at all ! They run out of plates every ten minutes and guests have to wait to see someone to ask for them. A joke really. I called reception yesterday morning to arrange for a shirt to be ironed and was asked to call back in ten minutes ! They never offered to call me back ! I went to guest services and explained this and they didn’t understand what I was saying ?!?! They thought I was asking for an iron and board so arranged to place this in my room ! - I just wanted my shirt ironed. Never going to come back to this hotel

I found the Hotel very clean and the staff very friendly. I have breakfast included and there was alot of choices. When I first arrived we were given a single bed and the were quick to change the room they even upgraded us. The View was amazing from the 18th Floor and the Tram runs Just close by so it's easy to get around and there are restaurant 10min walk away.

This was our first visit to Barcelona on a family break so we opted for 'The Level' for our weeks holiday. Check in was relatively smooth. Flight time dictated that we arrived a bit early, shortly before noon, and thus only one of our three rooms was available. As it transpired we eventually ended up spread over two floors which was not ideal. However, the rooms had great views out over Poblenou and onwards towards the sea. The beach is about a fifteen minute walk from the hotel and you can take a number of different routes to further explore the local area. Taxis are readily available though they can be in short supply at peak times. The Barcelona Tour bus pick up point is a ten minute walk away. The city itself is a short taxi / bus ride - but taxi fares were very reasonable from the hotel to the city. Breakfast at The Level has a spectacular setting, in an enclosed glass terrace overlooking the sea. Staff were very friendly and it has a pretty good food selection albeit in a small side room across the corridor. The evening canapés offering for Level guests is rather limited. You have the option of partaking at the "Level' area upstairs which is comfortable but very limited nibbles and, for some reason, no beer! Alternatively you can go to ground level at the 'Merkado Bar' where there is an area of the bar reserved for Level guests. I have to say the 'reserved' area it is poorly signposted for arriving guests, it has zero atmosphere and various 'restrictions' on what's included / excluded. Overall this aspect was not as good as the experience at 'the Level' in other Melia hotels & probably needs a rethink IMO. Evening drinks / cocktails at 'the Terrace' is relaxing, though it was very quiet at night. However there are lots of local bars & restaurants within walking distance of the hotel which are certainly worth exploring. Staff at 'the Level' reception area were very friendly, professional & efficient & helped us to organise a number of tours which simplified the whole process. Overall by the end of our stay I believe the hotel is perhaps more suited to business visitors (there were a variety of pharma conferences on during our visit) or for a weekend break - rather than a weeks holiday for family.
