Would Not Recommend for Families, Far Below 5-Star Standards, Overpriced and Unwelcoming

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 18 hours ago

The hotel is located in a nice part of the city, however the overall experience was far below what should be expected from a 5-star hotel. The interior is nothing special neither the lobby nor the rooms feel luxurious. The rooms clearly need renovation and repainting. The entire room concept is very open-space: the shower cabin, bathtub, and sinks are all exposed within one open room layout, which may not suit many guests. The room doors are also extremely heavy and difficult to open. The separate toilet area inside the room is inconvenient as well , the door has no handle and must be fully closed in order to properly enter or use the toilet, which makes it impractical and uncomfortable. The only consistently positive aspect of this hotel was the housekeeping and cleanliness, which were excellent throughout our stay. I would absolutely not recommend this hotel for families with babies or toddlers under 2 years old. The rooms have too many dangerous elements for small children, including multiple sharp pillars and a step leading to the terrace exit. One of the most uncomfortable experiences happened during breakfast. We were traveling with a 1.5-year-old baby, and despite there being two empty tables available side by side, tables where we had already been seated during the previous two days, we were not allowed to sit inside the breakfast area. Instead, a staff member told us to sit in the lobby area. The treatment felt completely discriminatory and made us question whether the breakfast restaurant was intended only for adults. If this is not a family-friendly hotel, then this should be clearly stated. Unfortunately, after this incident, we constantly felt unwelcome at the hotel. The staff then tried to act overly polite afterward, seemingly because they realized how inappropriate the situation had been, but the damage was already done. For a hotel claiming to be 5-star, this level of hospitality is unacceptable. Honestly, based on our experience, it does not deserve that rating. We reported the situation to reception and asked for feedback from the manager. They took our room number and told us they would get back to us, but we never received any response or even a simple apology. Another issue was the service in the lobby area where food and drinks are served. Staff often ignored us or made us wait to place an order while local guests were served immediately. As foreign guests, this treatment felt very noticeable and uncomfortable. The breakfast itself was also disappointing for the price and hotel category. It was not rich or varied, mostly mini sandwiches, cold cuts, and small egg portions, while even an omelet had to be specially ordered. The breakfast area is very small and cramped, with only around 16 tables. Overall, this hotel is absolutely not worth the price charged per night. I truly regret choosing this property and trusting the level of service expected from a supposed 5-star hotel. I would not recommend this hotel and would strongly suggest finding another hotel in the same area with much better service and hospitality.

Outstanding Hospitality and Thoughtful Touches

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Our stay at Ohla Eixample was nothing short of amazing. From the moment we walked through the doors, the staff made us feel genuinely welcome and cared for. Their attention to detail and warmth truly set the tone for a memorable stay. I had mentioned that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and what a surprise awaited us! When we entered our room, we were greeted with beautiful rose petals on the bed, a bottle of cava, and a thoughtful note. It was such a personal and touching gesture that made our celebration even more special. We stayed for four nights and enjoyed every moment. The rooftop pool was a real highlight, relaxing with cocktails while taking in the stunning views of the Sagrada Familia was simply unforgettable. On our final day, we had planned to leave early for Valencia to visit our son, daughter-in-law, and granddaughter. However, our train was fully booked, which meant we had the unexpected pleasure of spending an extra day in Barcelona. The team at Ohla Eixample handled this situation so graciously. They kindly offered to reopen our room, but as we only needed somewhere to store our luggage, they took care of that effortlessly. The concierge was fantastic, recommending some wonderful ways to spend our extra day, Outstanding Hospitality and Thoughtful Touches”including a lunch at the opera house, which turned out to be an incredible experience and a perfect way to end our trip. We couldn’t have asked for a better stay. The service, the thoughtful touches, and the overall experience were exceptional. We would absolutely recommend Ohla Eixample and are already looking forward to returning in the future.

Great hotel located in the heart of attractions we wanted to visit and were able to walk to from the hotel. Large rooms and great service. Would definitely stay here again.
