Just left after a really lovely 3 nights at the Grand Hyatt Barcelona ! It’s just over 45 mins from the airport terminal to the hotel via the metro (very simple to navigate) and the check in process was easy. Reception was helpful with ideas on where to visit. The room was nice and clean with all the amenities you’d need. The super king bed was very comfortable. The hotel is located 5-10 min walk from the Spotify camp nou, 7 mins walk to the metro and 10 mins walk to a lovely shopping centre with everything you could need. The metro ride to the city centre and all the main tourist attractions is no longer than 30 mins. The view from the hotel roof bar is pretty impressive at both day & night. Staff were super friendly throughout our stay and they even surprised with champagne, chocolate and strawberries on the last night for a honeymoon gift! We didn’t have time to use the spa due to a packed itinerary but I’m sure we’ll be back again to take advantage of all their facilities.

I don’t hold any loyalty status with Hyatt and I was feeling disloyal to IHG so booked here to one night. Travel time from the airport is around 1h by public transport but it is fairly easy. The metro stop is a few minutes walk from the hotel. The hotel has a lovely aesthetic feel and I’d requested upon booking and within the app when I did an online check in for arrival at 11am. There were plenty of rooms available from the night before. Now as an IHG Diamond Elite member this kind of early check in would never have been an issue, In Hyatt, we were subjected to a 20 minute ordeal to check in with Javier followed by a hustle. After 20 mins of being served it was announced that our room category (the lowest) had no rooms available until 3pm and he was very firm about 3pm, However, almost every other class of room would be available right at 11am with a supplement starting from 185€. Not a small amount of money. As I’ve seen this hustle before I asked for the front desk supervisor. Suddenly, a slightly upgraded room was available to check into. Of course by this time it was 11:25am. Don’t get me wrong, I did appreciate it. I just didn’t appreciate the hustle in order to get a room when you’ve been awake from 3:15am. Breakfast was a disaster, very badly managed. Apparently there had been no orange juice delivery so it ran out and customers were just expected to manage without. It was the only juice being offered and since I don’t drink tea or coffee then water was what was available. I raised this with the supervisor and eventually some oranges were squeezed but the service recovery was non existent and we didn’t enjoy breakfast very much. I think next time I’ll go back to the Intercontinental.
