Venture out for the day to discover this amazing city, and start with a stroll down the famed La Rambla. Enjoy fantastic and eclectic shopping, vibrant street performances, and delightful cafés where you can sit, relax and people watch. Make your way to La Sagrada Familia, a magnificent temple designed by Anton Gaudi and begun in 1881, where you can marvel at its massive structure, which is still being constructed today. Continue on to Gaudi's psychedelic Park Guell, on a hill overlooking the city, and enjoy a pleasantly strange afternoon amongst serpentine benches, brilliant tile mosaics, giant decorative lizards, and gingerbread-styled houses. In the afternoon stop in at a lovely café for a true taste of Barcelona and enjoy fabulous fresh seafood and pintxos, the delightful tapas-styled local snacks. Take the rest of the afternoon to relax with a sail along the Mediterranean coast, or be moved by an astounding performance at the Gran Teatre del Liceu or L'Auditori. That night, return to the hotel for a well-deserved massage at AQUA Diagonal Spa, then enjoy a fun-filled dinner in the hotel's very own German Biergarten. At Hotel Sofia, every day is truly this magical.

I had high expectations for Grand Hyatt Barcelona as a Hyatt Explorist member booking through the American Express Hotel Collection, but unfortunately this has been one of the most disappointing hotel experiences I’ve had. The most frustrating part wasn’t that an upgrade wasn’t available—it was how the situation was handled. The receptionist was kind, professional, and began accommodating us with a king room and an extra bed. A front desk manager then came over and instructed her not to proceed. After we spoke with the manager, they reluctantly agreed, and the receptionist once again started processing the room. About 10 minutes later, the manager returned and overruled her a second time, stopping the process yet again. Watching a manager repeatedly contradict and undermine their own staff in front of guests was awkward, unprofessional, and made us feel completely unwelcome. When we entered our room, we were met with significant road traffic and construction noise. It was so loud that we believed the room itself had poor sound insulation. I returned to the front desk to report the issue, and the manager came to the room. Rather than acknowledging our concerns with empathy or immediately investigating the cause, the response came across as dismissive. We later discovered that the window had been left open, which explained much of the outside noise. While we appreciate finally understanding the source of the noise, by that point the damage to our experience had already been done. The check-in process, the repeated reversals over our room assignment, and the way our concerns were handled left us with little confidence that our stay would improve. We had already decided to book another hotel. What disappoints me most is not that problems occurred—every hotel encounters issues from time to time. It is how those issues were handled. A warm, professional, and solution-oriented response could have completely changed our experience. Instead, we left feeling unwelcome and unheard. As a Hyatt Explorist member and a guest booking through the American Express Hotel Collection, I expected a much higher standard of hospitality and customer care. I sincerely hope Hyatt reviews the conduct of its front desk management and reinforces the importance of treating guests with professionalism, consistency, and empathy.

excellent hotel, clean, quiet, great breakfast, good AC during hot summer days, and good atmosphere with very helpful staff.

The worst hotel experience I’ve ever had - woeful service, uncleaned room, misinformation and no communication. Location is terrible for the city. Maybe if you’re there for business it’s a good hotel, otherwise, avoid.

Crowded lobby. Long queue for check-in. Don't be fooled by the word "premium" room, it is not premium. Inattentive staff. Only thing I like is the breakfast, staff are vey nice and choice of food is great for continental breakfast.

While away from city centre and main attraction, it was fairly easy to commute to. Located next to Barcelona stadium and is in middle of business hub. Staff at hotel were very helpful and welcoming. Really top notch. Got a room upgrade but had to pay a fair small fee and I would say it was worth it. Lots of amenities. Unfortunately we didn’t get to use spa facilities it opened quite late. Rooftop bar looked cozy, outside pool area was lovely, hotel reception was beautifully laid out. Downsides were that breakfast wasn’t as good as I thought. It was quite limited given the size of the hotel. Also the lifts take quite a long time to come during the day, so be prepared to wait a while for them to come. Air conditioning stopped working during our stay. Overall it was a very nice experience and would visit again for sure if I visit Barcelona again.
