In the afternoon stop in at a lovely café for a true taste of Barcelona and enjoy fabulous fresh seafood and pintxos, the delightful tapas-styled local snacks. Take the rest of the afternoon to relax with a sail along the Mediterranean coast, or be moved by an astounding performance at the Gran Teatre del Liceu or L'Auditori. That night, return to the hotel for a well-deserved massage at AQUA Diagonal Spa, then enjoy a fun-filled dinner in the hotel's very own German Biergarten. At Hotel Sofia, every day is truly this magical.

Reviews for Hotel Sofia

Not a five star ⭐️

The location is excellent, with plenty of restaurants and cafés within walking distance. The rooms were clean and generally comfortable. However, the room design left us scratching our heads. In Room 824, there was no separate light in the shower area, and the glass shower door was completely transparent. If you’re travelling with friends rather than a partner, be prepared for an unexpected “Full Monty” experience! The toilet arrangement wasn’t much better. There was no lock on the toilet door, so unless you’re singing loudly while doing your business, you might end up giving someone an unpleasant surprise. We had two rooms on different floors (6 and 8). Strangely, if you want to visit friends staying on another floor, you cannot travel directly between floors. Instead, you must go down to the lobby and take another lift to the required floor. We were told this is for security reasons, although it felt more inconvenient than secure. The following is the complaint that was sent through feedback form to hotel management- I am writing to formally complain about an incident that occurred during our recent stay at your hotel. We had a reservation for three nights consisting of two rooms for five adults. Upon check-in, we were asked to pay a €300 security deposit, which we did without objection. However, on the third evening of our stay, three members of our group, who were sharing one of the rooms, returned to the hotel after having a late meal. To their surprise, their room key cards were no longer functioning. When they approached reception for assistance, they were informed that they would not be granted access to their room unless they paid a further €300 deposit. This demand was both unexpected and concerning, particularly as a deposit had already been paid at check-in. The situation became even more suspicious when, after several attempts to make the payment using three different bank cards, the reception staff suggested that they withdraw cash from an ATM and make the payment in cash instead. My friends quite rightly refused to make a cash payment. What followed only increased our concerns: the amount requested was suddenly reduced from €300 to €150, and when this was also refused, it was reduced again to €100. This arbitrary reduction raises serious questions about the legitimacy and purpose of the requested payment. As guests staying in a five-star hotel, we found this treatment wholly unacceptable. Preventing paying guests from accessing their room late at night and repeatedly changing the amount demanded for entry created the impression of an attempted scam rather than a legitimate hotel procedure. I would appreciate a full explanation of: • Why our room access cards were deactivated. • Why an additional deposit was requested despite a deposit already having been paid at check-in. • Why reception staff requested cash payment via an ATM. • Why the requested amount was repeatedly reduced when payment was refused. This experience significantly detracted from our stay and fell far below the standards we would expect from a hotel of your reputation. I look forward to your prompt response and an explanation of the events that took place. Yours faithfully, Sanjay

We had a wonderful stay at Hyatt Hotel Barcelona. The hotel is modern, stylish, and very well located, making it easy to explore the city. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful throughout our visit. The buffet breakfast was amazing and delicious, with a great variety of options. Comfortable rooms, great atmosphere, and excellent service — highly recommended!

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Outstanding Check-In Experience at Grand Hyatt Barcelona After a long and stressful travel day, arriving at the Grand Hyatt Barcelona was exactly what we needed. The hotel is beautiful, but what truly made our stay special was the exceptional service we received from Melanie and Christian at the front desk. From the moment we arrived, they greeted us with genuine warmth, professionalism, and kindness. They took the time to make us feel welcome, answered our questions with patience, and turned what had been a rough day into a memorable start to our trip. To our surprise, they upgraded us to a beautiful suite, which was greatly appreciated. More importantly, they made us feel valued as guests. Their attention to detail and sincere hospitality exemplify what luxury service should be. The Grand Hyatt Barcelona is an outstanding property, but employees like Melanie and Christian are what truly set it apart. They are wonderful representatives of the Hyatt brand and deserve recognition for the exceptional experience they create for guests. Thank you, Melanie and Christian. Your kindness and professionalism made a lasting impression on us, and we look forward to returning. We highly recommend the Grand Hyatt Barcelona for anyone looking for exceptional service, beautiful accommodations, and a truly welcoming guest experience.

A lovely hotel let down by laborious check in

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

The Grand Hyatt in Barcelona is a v good hotel with warm, professional service. The room was large and comfortable, with lovely Natura Bissa products. For a five-star hotel, I was disappointed that the in-room amenities were extremely limited: a Nespresso machine with three pods, no decaf coffee, and a big water filtration device that was impossible to get boiling water out of for tea. The mini bar fridge was completely empty, and there were no snacks in the room. One would expect better in a five-star hotel. I realise the hotel is focused on sustainability, but having a couple of drinks in the fridge and some snacks is what one would expect at a premium hotel. Otherwise, breakfast and the meals that we had were very good, and the staff were attentive and accommodating. Lena in particular was excellent. Unfortunately, the check-in procedure was appalling. We waited for half an hour in a queue to check in after a long day of traveling. When we got to the front of the queue, it took another 25 minutes for them to take passport details, credit card details etc. I had entered all of these when I made the booking, so I'm not sure why these needed to be re-entered manually, and they took full payment again despite the fact that I had prepaid in full for all of the accommodation. This necessitated me going back to reception to reverse the charge. An hour check in for a hotel that you have prepaid for seems a little ridiculous. I've had this experience at a Hyatt before. It's not the fault of the staff but of the systems.

Beautiful hospitality and nice facilities

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We stayed there for only 3 days last month before cruise. Services and food there were both excellent. Concierge Louis and globalist team were very helpful in helping us settle down to recover from jet lag and advised amazing local restaurants to us during the Pentecost weekend when most Michelin starred restaurants were closed. We loved their beautiful breakfast with fantastic hospitality to match. The pool is clean and nice as well. Exercise room is smaller but is well equipped. Will revisit for sure
