My wife and I had just come off a Norwegian Mediterranean Cruise ship the Epic. We couldn't fly out until the next morning so we had booked the W for 1 Night. We had to leave our cabin by 8am and disembark the ship by 9am so we took a taxi over to the W to check in. The room was ready, a bellhop helped with our bags to room 309 then we had the W's relaxing champagne breakfast brunch. Afterward we went back to the room and noticed the a.c. wasn't on. My wife called front desk and was told maintenance would come check it out so we decided to go lay in a cabana for a few hours until the a.c. was repaired. The views are fantastic and the poolside service even better. With a cool breeze, I slept for a few hours. My wife and I went back to the room to dress for an earlier dinner. The room was 72 degrees Celsius and a note had been pushed under the door. It read that maintenance would not come/call the front desk. My wife, Michelle, called and was told told that we would be moved when a room was available, just stay put. We packed to move, then I went down to the lobby with all luggage and my wife. The front desk personal were extremely apologetic and had us a new suite. The hotel, all the staff, the views, everything about the hotel was wonderful, 1st rate as all W's but here the service was a little better. The only reason for not getting an excellent was the a.c. problem.

This hotel was nothing like I expected! I have gone to SPG hotels my whole life (lifetime platinum member) and this was by far my worst experience ever. The service is appalling, for starters the cleaners never clean the room properly, all they do is make the bed and fold some towels and then they leave! Secondly, I was shocked to find a needle poking me in the middle of the night from my blanket! And thirdly, and by far the worst experience the cleaner left inappropriate and unacceptable notes in my room (note said : call me on WhatsApp), even though after my complaint that situation was handled well. None of the others were. The service in restaurants, specially breakfast is also ridiculous, they speak extremely rudely. I would strongly not recommend this. And I will never be staying at W again.

So just a couple of things not cover in depth. - having a unlock phone is handy when I travel. Rates are so much cheaper than Canada. Chrystal is a electronic shop at the airport where Vodafone kiosk is located and Orange Sim cards are available behind the cash register. - Airport Bus express is available for 11 euro at the Terminal and will stop at Placa Espana and terminate at Placa Catalunya. - Google Maps suck because location has a hard time updating. Probably because of the narrow allies and tall buildings. Even driving to Madrid Google had a hard time finding my location! Get a actual GPS! -Book Ur attractions online, you may find some are sold out for the times you want. - we bought a 10 trip tickets for the Metro and walked pretty much everywhere.

Spent a gorgeous weekend poolside Hotel W, Barcelona. WOW!!!! I have been to many hotels - and a lot of great ones - but to be ON the beach in Barcelona - fabulous weather in September - grooviest poolside parties, lounge music all day long - such a chill atmosphere - what can one say? Many super cool places tend to be very cold and impersonal. This does absolutely not apply for W Barcelona! Very friendly and personal staff - from reception, to lady at sales who showed us around, to staff at the bars and restaurants. We were a group from a large hotel chain in Scandinavia - we can be pretty hard to please as we work in and see a lot of great hotels all the time. We were all VERY impressed with W Barcelona! Room overlooking the whole of Barcelona city and beach - on the 5th floor - high enough to see it all but not so high that we missed the details. Beautiful details, wonderful beds - top score for all!! Oh - almost forgot to mention the breakfast! THE breakfast! A lovely lady taking care of us - making sure we had the most perfect start to a great day! Freshly squeezed orange juice, perfect coffee and Cava "of the house" - as much as you like........ We ate like the locals - grilled bread smeared in garlic, covered in crushed tomatoes and ground salt. Spanish ham and cheese - the ULTIMATE start of the day! The atmosphere throughout the weekend was SO chilled - perfect for us! Thanks for a MAGIC weekend - MUCHAS GRACIAS & HASTA LUEGO! I will definitely be back!!

This luxury hotel was worth every penny. My husband and I were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary and splurged on a Cool Corner Suite. We asked for the highest floor and got it. The room was amazing, from the layout and views to the quality of the mattress and amenities. This was probably the cleanest room I've ever stayed at. Housekeeping does a great job. And service at this hotel was superior. At check-in they asked if we were here for any special occasion so we mentioned our anniversary. That night we came back to find a bottle of wine, chocolates and a card wishing us a happy anniversary. Breakfast at The Wave was luxurious as well. They had a large variety and it was presented beautifully. Each day the manager Filomene would come and talk with us. Not just to check on how our breakfast was, but to really talk with us, ask about our trip, provide helpful information and making sure we had everything we could possibly want or need during our stay. She even gave us a card and small gift on our last day. She obviously takes pride in her work and truly enjoys what she does. The pool and beach areas of the W were also the epitome of luxurious comfort. Again, service was amazing. We also had dinner one night at The Salt, just off the beach. Service and food were both great. It was a little pricey but not too bad and not surprising. Actually it was the best food we had in Spain. I don't know if we'll ever make it back to Barcelona, but if we do this is the only hotel I would stay at. We loved every minute here. The only downside is the W spoiled us for every other hotel. I can't imagine another taking it's place as the best hotel ever. I wish I never had to leave :-)
