Eagle's Nest in Bay of Islands, New Zealand

On a 75-acre verdant peninsula where architecture and topography seamlessly blend, the five luxury villas of Eagle's Nest offer five interpretations of luxury. On one end, the Fire Light Temple is an intimate honeymoon retreat with an open-air bedroom and glass shower overlooking the cerulean waters below. Meanwhile, at the award-winning Rahimoana, 44 acres of private land include its own beach, a helipad and a modernist villa architects say is destined for Frank Lloyd Wright-like icon status.

Snack on fresh fruits replenished daily from your sunny vantage point overlooking the historical grounds of Waitangi. Take a dip in your own infinity pool before riding the villa's complimentary mountain bikes to the town of Russell, one of the earliest settlements in New Zealand, and have a cultural exchange with a Maori tribe. Relax with a crisp glass of Sauvignon Blanc as your personal chef prepares a gourmet meal of fresh-caught langoustines and greens from the local farmers' market.

Luxurious accommodation, wonderful helpful staff and amazing views. Absolutely loved our stay. The outdoor hot tub nestled in the lovely gardens allows you to relax with a glass of wine whilst listening to the tui birds sing as they sip nectar from the flowers.

Me and my wife stayed at the Eagle's Spirit Villa for 2 nights and I must say that this was an amazing experience. The Villa itself was so well thought out and really well provided for as well as aesthetically stunning. The staff is always on call and ready to help with everything (including reservations). The view and setting is 5 stars on its own. Highly recommend.

If you are seeking private refuge at a beautiful and well appointed accommodation then look no further. Eagles Nest is truly world class in every regard. Some tips: 1. There are two ways to get there. One involves a car ferry which is pretty easy and the other is a long and winding road that can be a bit intimidating (especially if driving during night time or bad weather) but potentially worth the scenery if you are brave. 2. If visiting during the off season, then check to ensure the local restaurants are open. Or better yet, book the private chef because you won't want to leave the premises! Overall it was a surreal experience and highly recommended!

We spent three nights at First Light. In fact, this is the second visit, the first interrupted by a family bereavement. It must be noted the management were both sympathetic, and helpful, when we had to leave, suddenly, on the first occasion. The service is unobtrusive and attentive. Management greet guests, explain the operation of the villa's, open complimentary Champaign and leave; unless something additional is requested. The villa is beautiful with a well equipped with a well stocked fridge and pantry. They contain some complimentary items and some the incur an additional cost. Guests are required to prepare their own breakfast. Although this did not worry us personally, I will mention there is no on-site restaurant. However, a personal chef can be provided at additional cost. The privacy is fabulous. The First Light villa enjoys expansive water views, an outdoor spa, outdoor and indoor fireplace and sauna. Great for those visiting during the cold winter months, but the absence of a swimming pool could make summer visits slightly less inviting to this particular villa. (There are villa's available that do include a pool if this is a priority). The décor and artwork are particularly lovely. The addition of fresh fruits, fresh herbs and quality soaps is a luxurious touch in keeping with an establishment of this calibre. We personally would have enjoyed being able to view TV from the bedroom - although many would not see this as a short fall. I believe the personal chef is outstanding, although we could not justify the cost of this service. There are a few good restaurants in Russell and a friendly driver is provided on request. This is a beautifully located and well appointed establishment. We will definitely return when needing to recoup, and would recommend First Light for couples wanting alone time and to relax.

Our family stayed at Eagles Nest for 6 nights. The Rahimoana Villa has one of the world's best views. It is a modern villa equipped with everything you may need for super luxurious living. We enjoyed the hospitality from the Eagles Nest team - Ciaran, William & Amy and had delicious vegetarian meals prepared and served by Chef Liam & Alice. We look forward to visiting the property again in the coming years with our family.
