The Opposite House in Beijing, China
The Opposite House is a revolutionary hotel concept and an integral part of The Village at Sanlitun, an open-plan development located in a cosmopolitan region of Beijing. A member of the well-established Preferred Hotels & Resorts, part of the Preferred Hotel Group, its urban and urbane design is refreshing and unconventional. Constructed from sheets of glass and steel accents, the hotel's name hints at the many contrasting elements. The collection of rooms, 98 in all, is a study in streamline with traditional Chinese embellishments. Floors are crafted from natural wood and bathrooms are spa inspired. Thoughtful amenities, such as complimentary wireless Internet and all-you-can-enjoy mini-bars, are just a few added conveniences.
There are five restaurants and bars some with playful names, like Punk, and others that are more straightforward. Each setting is different with Sureno featuring an exhibition kitchen and wood-fired fare and Bei serving up traditional dishes from northern Asia. In the evening guests tend to gravitate towards Mesh, a cool space that draws a sophisticated crowd with its impressive wine and libations list. The hotel's workout room is filled with state-of-the-art fitness equipment. A swim in the stainless steel pool proves to be a sensory experience as light and metal interact with the water's motion. The hotel even has a contemporary art gallery with a mesmerizing sculpture collection. Just outside the hotel door is a district on the brink of discovery. Sanlitun was fashioned after the traditional Beijing hutongs and courtyards. Within its confines is a vibrant community where art, fashion, entertainment and dining fuse and intertwine.

Reviews for The Opposite House
Still the most beautiful hotel in Beijing and perhaps in the whole of Asia. Fantastic architecture worth seeing in its own right. Beautiful and large rooms. Great breakfast. Excellent service. The hotel may be a bit tired here and there, but overall it's still fantastic. It will be renovated soon, I hope it will keep as much as possible of the original style and architecture.
very nice staff, ready to help and always trying to get the best of the guest's stay. Loved it! Every day we had different amenities, the staff made everything to make our wishes come true rapidly and always with a smile.
I enjoyed my stay at the Opposite House very much. The building, designed by the great Japanese architect Kengo Kuma (who has designed the 2020 Olympic Stadium in Tokyo) is a wonderful modern building, with a spacious lobby, charming cafe for breakfasts and lunch, and a dark atmospheric bar. Downstairs is a gym and a lovely pool, 21 meters, long enough for lap swimming. The room are clean and modern and very attractive, and spacious enough with a kind of open air bathroom area that it almost feels like a suite. The mostly very young staff was uniformly helpful and friendly. Frank Fang, the head of guest relations, was particularly helpful and a great resource of information. I recommend the hotel highly, and will certainly plan on staying here on my next visit to Beijing.

We went to stay for 2 nights and ended up extending our trip to over a week. The restaurants in the hotel are amazing. ESPECIALLY Sureno!!!! The customer service was exquisite and Paul truly went above and beyond to make sure we had an incredible stay! They gave us suggestions, helped book things and truly made the trip to Beijing beyond memorable! The hotel itself is so simple, elegant and a retreat in a busy city! I am suggesting it to everyone!

My girlfriend wanted to surprise me for my birthday and we stayed here in Beijing. My work trip kept getting extended so we continued to stay at the hotel past the one night that we had originally planned. The service, staff and restaurants were all exceptional. We travel very extensively all around the world and this has been one of the best experiences weāve had at a hotel. Paul, had a huge part in this as he went above and beyond to help take care of us and make sure that our stay was exceptional. Frank was also incredible helpful and accommodating. They moved mountains for us in many different ways to help accommodate our needs and did so very graciously. My Girlfriend is gluten-free and every staff member in all the restaurants were aware of our special needs and had specially prepared food selections waiting for us just in case we showed up. Mustafa the restaurant manager at SureƱo was incredibly gracious and had a whole gluten free menu ready for us upon arrival. The food in all of the restaurants was delicious and the breakfast in the cafe was a treat to look forward to every morning. They helped us to arrange tours and find the best prices, helped to accommodate all my needs business wise and every person there treated us like we were the only guests in the hotel. I would stay here a thousand times over, such a pleasure.
