The Opposite House in Beijing, China

The Opposite House is a revolutionary hotel concept and an integral part of The Village at Sanlitun, an open-plan development located in a cosmopolitan region of Beijing. A member of the well-established Preferred Hotels & Resorts, part of the Preferred Hotel Group, its urban and urbane design is refreshing and unconventional. Constructed from sheets of glass and steel accents, the hotel's name hints at the many contrasting elements. The collection of rooms, 98 in all, is a study in streamline with traditional Chinese embellishments. Floors are crafted from natural wood and bathrooms are spa inspired. Thoughtful amenities, such as complimentary wireless Internet and all-you-can-enjoy mini-bars, are just a few added conveniences.

There are five restaurants and bars some with playful names, like Punk, and others that are more straightforward. Each setting is different with Sureno featuring an exhibition kitchen and wood-fired fare and Bei serving up traditional dishes from northern Asia. In the evening guests tend to gravitate towards Mesh, a cool space that draws a sophisticated crowd with its impressive wine and libations list. The hotel's workout room is filled with state-of-the-art fitness equipment. A swim in the stainless steel pool proves to be a sensory experience as light and metal interact with the water's motion. The hotel even has a contemporary art gallery with a mesmerizing sculpture collection. Just outside the hotel door is a district on the brink of discovery. Sanlitun was fashioned after the traditional Beijing hutongs and courtyards. Within its confines is a vibrant community where art, fashion, entertainment and dining fuse and intertwine.

It's a gorgeous hotel, very artistic and beautifully designed by a Japanese architect. The room is very zen and spacious, and the bed is very comfortable. We felt very rested while staying there. The service is superb. There's a little thoughtful gift left by our bedside every evening, with a hand-written note. There was an art opening while we were there and we got to mingle with the Beijing art community. The guest services team is top notch and very helpful.

I really enjoyed my stay. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Restaurant are fantastic. Design and room layout is great. Surrounding area is really nice with many shops and restaurants close by. Not my first visit and not my last.

We have had such good experiences at the Upper House and Temple House that planning the trip to Beijing we quite automatically chose the Opposite House. This location is a bit less luxurious but amply compensated by its vibes, cool design and top notch customer service. We were welcomed by Zelotes and his team. He gave us an upgrade, changed the assigned room as there was a smell without us even asking and provided great tips that made the difference planning our WE ahead. The whole experience has been ***** . There was a great photo exhibition. Good gym and nice indoor pool. I can't wait to try the Middle House!

We decided to stay at The Opposite House for our family vacation, and it turned out to be THE best decision ever. The hotel is extremely family friendly, Associate Director of Guest Experience, Zelotes, welcomed my family, including my 14-month-old nephew with the warmest greeting and the most thoughtful welcome kit —— baby crib, baby shower kit, cutest baby clothes, little sun glasses. customized letter, etc ... The team has really gone above and beyond to provide an amazing experience for us in Beijing. The room was super spacious, the terrace was tranquil, dining options were exceptional, the location was unbeatable (in the heart of the chic-est spot of Beijing). Highly recommend, and we will definitely come back. Special thank-you to Zelotes again!
