The Opposite House in Beijing, China

The Opposite House is a revolutionary hotel concept and an integral part of The Village at Sanlitun, an open-plan development located in a cosmopolitan region of Beijing. A member of the well-established Preferred Hotels & Resorts, part of the Preferred Hotel Group, its urban and urbane design is refreshing and unconventional. Constructed from sheets of glass and steel accents, the hotel's name hints at the many contrasting elements. The collection of rooms, 98 in all, is a study in streamline with traditional Chinese embellishments. Floors are crafted from natural wood and bathrooms are spa inspired. Thoughtful amenities, such as complimentary wireless Internet and all-you-can-enjoy mini-bars, are just a few added conveniences.

There are five restaurants and bars some with playful names, like Punk, and others that are more straightforward. Each setting is different with Sureno featuring an exhibition kitchen and wood-fired fare and Bei serving up traditional dishes from northern Asia. In the evening guests tend to gravitate towards Mesh, a cool space that draws a sophisticated crowd with its impressive wine and libations list. The hotel's workout room is filled with state-of-the-art fitness equipment. A swim in the stainless steel pool proves to be a sensory experience as light and metal interact with the water's motion. The hotel even has a contemporary art gallery with a mesmerizing sculpture collection. Just outside the hotel door is a district on the brink of discovery. Sanlitun was fashioned after the traditional Beijing hutongs and courtyards. Within its confines is a vibrant community where art, fashion, entertainment and dining fuse and intertwine.

From beginning to end, The Opposite House team went above and beyond to create the most special and memorable weekend for us, celebrating our first wedding anniversary. The level of anticipation at various touch points was incredible. One example was GE Marlborough, who was so helpful in calling us 5 mins before our train was scheduled to arrive in Beijing to update us where the driver would be waiting for us. Paul, Mark and Arno made us feel at Home immediately with the amazing arrival experience- it really felt like being greeted by family! We had the most stunning meal at Sureno, probably my best one of this year, which is a big shout coming from a gluten free vegan! We were totally blown away by the whole dining experience thanks to the super star team of Mostafa, Rebecca, and Elaine. Our personalised menus were the icing on the cake and just such a thoughtful touch. Most heartfelt thanks to Paul, truly is the best Guest Liaison Manager in the world, consistently present to touch base with guests, making us feel so special and well taken care of! Cannot wait to come back soonest!

The Opposite House is beautiful and thoughtful. Gorgeous architecture, spacious rooms, delicious restaurants and attention to every detail make it a delightful place to stay. Paul and the rest of the staff took great care of us. It couldn't have been better!

We chose The Opposite House for its convenient location and shopping for our first trip to Beijing but we ended up not leaving the hotel much. We were just spoiled with attention and lovely gestures to make us feel welcome and at appreciated. From an incredible dinner at Sureno which the chef specially prepared aroudn my wifes dietary restrictions, to lovely room amenities and very kind personal care from Paul. He is an absolute treasure. We also have received very good directions and recommendations during our stay for whenever we left the hotel. All in a perfect first anniversary for me and my wife.

So I recently treated my self to a stay, The location is incrediable amazing , the design of the hotel is super modern, bright and full of light, the food in the hotel is phenomenal from village cafe to the fine dining establishments and want really makes your experience here is the service. I met the GM Paul, now I have been around the world and very rarely do you meet people who care so much about the satisfaction of there guests as much as this guy. Always had a big smile , always kind and always helpful. I should make a point, not just the GM, but the entire staff. As is with almost any business, culture is top down and they have created an amazing culture at the opposite house. The rooms are fantastic, the accents of wood, the wood bathtub the huge windows that are full of light, I completely loved every moment of my stay. I really loved the art exhibits and also had a chance to meet the chef Taleb, same bright smile and energy as the GM.

I have stayed in many hotels in Beijing and this has to be my favourite. The location is superb as it is next door to an array of fabulous restaurants and bars. The staff were polite, helpful and extremely proactive. The rooms were modern and immaculately clean. Thoughtful gifts were left on the bedside table at turn down and I especially loved my little tube of hand cream. I can't wait to come back!
