About the Hotel

The Opposite House is a revolutionary hotel concept and an integral part of The Village at Sanlitun, an open-plan development located in a cosmopolitan region of Beijing. A member of the well-established Preferred Hotels & Resorts, part of the Preferred Hotel Group, its urban and urbane design is refreshing and unconventional. Constructed from sheets of glass and steel accents, the hotel's name hints at the many contrasting elements. The collection of rooms, 98 in all, is a study in streamline with traditional Chinese embellishments. Floors are crafted from natural wood and bathrooms are spa inspired. Thoughtful amenities, such as complimentary wireless Internet and all-you-can-enjoy mini-bars, are just a few added conveniences.

Reviews for The Opposite House

Great location and guest service, but very bad mattress in smelly room!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 13 hours ago

We stayed in a Studio 70, room 410, for 5 nights in early May. Good + Very professional and high level of guest services. + Location on Sanlutin is very convenient with restaurants all within walking distance. + Nice breakfast. The buffet doesn't have a wide choice, but you can order from the menu, which means fresh food and less waste. + Layout of the room is very spacious, comfortable and wooden floors means less dust. Bad — Mattress is very old with a large dent in the middle. They solved this by placing an extra top layer that was removed the next day (without informing us). — Room smells like sewage. — Very noisy rooms, we could hear our neighbors' phone conversations. — Lots of outside noise, including the tree branches tapping non-stop against the windows when it's windy. — Construction work starts around 7:15 am every day. — The basement restaurant used to have a Michelin star, but lacks atmosphere and food quality. The hotel is closing at the end of next month, so my advice is to stay at the Chao or Hyatt. We asked in advance whether there was any work going on around the hotel and whether the hotel was still fully operational. They confirmed that there was no construction and the hotel is continuing as normal. Both are untrue and we believe that they have not been completely honest about this. We booked this hotel to start our 26 day grand China tour and wanted to stay in a special place. Since this was the most expensive hotel during our trip, we had high expectations that were definitely not met. With the knowledge we now have, we could have saved a lot of money by staying somewhere else where we would have had a better night's sleep.

The Opposite House is one of my favourite hotels ever! The hotel is so beautifully and contemporary designed, with the incredible lobby, the spacious and modern rooms with great bathtubs, and of course the fantastic restaurants and bar. We really enjoyed everything about The Opposite House, and I think we tried all the signature cocktails from the amazing cocktail list at Union ;). Special thanks to the fantastic service from the team, especially Lynn was just a super star and really made our Beijing visit so memorable with all the help she offered for restaurants and activities. Thank you Opposite House team, you're the best!

We went back to Opposite House for our wedding in Beijing!

We went back to Opposite House for our wedding in Beijing. We also hosted our friends and family there. Once again, the team took great care of us from welcoming us at the reception, warm and sweet fruit platters, cakes, even flowers for the newly wed in the room. We have enjoyed the drinks at Union and food at the breakfast cafe. Highly recommend anyone to visit!

Such an iconic and amazing hotel! From the moment of arrival we have been so impressed by everything! The design is beautiful and very special, the rooms are so spacious with large bathtubs and contemporary Japanese design, the delicious breakfast, dim sum at Jing Yaa Tang, the signature cocktails at Union and most of all the incredible service by the entire team. Lynn, the guest relations director, was able to really made our stay extraordinary and discover Beijing to the fullest. A huge thank you to everyone at The Opposite House!
