Named for famed 19th century naturalist, Charles Telfair, Heritage Le Telfair Golf & Spa Resort, Mauritius embodies beauty and elegance while celebrating its natural, unspoiled backdrop adrift in the Indian Ocean. Stretched across 15 acres atop the sandy shores of Bel Ombre Beach, Heritage Le Telfair's intimate village design includes 20 villas, each with 6-8 rooms that enjoy breathtaking beach views, private balconies, and floor-to-ceiling windows that permit abundant natural light to flow into the expansive living quarters. With design inspired by the French Colonial period on the island, rooms are outfitted with dark wood, over sized four-poster beds, lavish drapery and textiles, and a soft palette of light blue, green, and brown hues. En-suite bathrooms include claw-foot tubs in suites, walk-in showers, spacious dressing facilities, and plush bathrobes. At Heritage Le Telfair the smallest details are handled with the greatest care, because your comfort, pleasure, and experience are top priority.

High-quality hotel with a beautiful beach, garden, comfortable beds, and sun loungers. The restaurants are very good. The staff are very friendly and it is a real pleasure to interact with them. The people of Mauritius are kind and helpful. Prèmi pur Hostess and Mathieu at the bar was exceptionally friendly.

My wife and I stayed at Heritage Le Telfair in November as part of our honeymoon, and while the resort itself is undeniably beautiful, the overall experience was a significant disappointment and well below what we would expect from a 5-star property. From the moment we arrived, communication and organisation issues were constant. Restaurant bookings arranged weeks in advance had not been made, dietary requirements were repeatedly lost, and simple requests often had to be chased multiple times. These were not isolated incidents but a recurring pattern throughout the stay. Dining was a major let-down. The half-board buffet and included restaurants consistently served food that was bland, under-seasoned and, on several occasions, served cold. Menu items were frequently unavailable or substituted without warning. For a resort that positions itself as a luxury destination, the quality and execution of the inclusive food felt more in line with a budget hotel than a premium one. Activities were similarly mishandled. Golf bookings that had been clearly confirmed in advance were repeatedly missing or incorrect, resulting in delays, confusion, missed tee times and unnecessary stress. Transfers were late, orders were forgotten, and billing errors appeared on our folio that we had to identify and correct ourselves. We raised concerns politely while on-site and spoke with several managers, all of whom were apologetic and assured us the issues would be resolved. Unfortunately, the same problems continued to occur even after those assurances, which made it clear that the issues were systemic rather than accidental. The post-stay experience was also disappointing. Follow-up communication was slow and required multiple chasers before receiving any response. While we did eventually receive a response, the process felt unnecessarily drawn out and formal, lacking the warmth or accountability one would expect from a luxury hospitality brand, particularly following a honeymoon stay. To be fair, the grounds, architecture and location are beautiful, and Mauritius itself is a wonderful destination. However, luxury hospitality is about service, attention to detail and consistency — and this is where Heritage Le Telfair fell short at almost every turn. For context, we stayed at another similarly priced 5-star resort elsewhere on the island immediately afterwards, where the service and food were exceptional, which only highlighted how far below standard this experience was. This resort has enormous potential, but based on our experience, there are serious operational and management issues that need addressing. We would not choose to return, and we would advise others to manage expectations carefully if considering this hotel.

This hotel was recommended to us by friends, and we are absolutely delighted that we followed their advice. The hotel is set in a stunning natural environment, offering peace and tranquility while at the same time providing entertainment and a wide range of activities both on-site and in the surrounding area. Yes, the entire southern part of the island feels like paradise on earth, but thanks to the local staff, we truly felt at home here and that feeling came within just a few hours. Everyone was exceptionally kind and welcoming. The level of service we received was outstanding, going well beyond standard expectations and duties, even though we were far from staying in the highest category of accommodation. Nevertheless, we felt as if we were some kind of VIP or celebrity guests. If you are assigned Melvin as your butler, you have truly won the jackpot. Whatever comes to mind, he will immediately take care of it, arrange it, call it in, organize it, secure it, and find out everything you need. And always with a smile. We asked him how he manages it all, and he told us that he genuinely enjoys his job, something that is evident in every word he speaks and every move he makes. Don’t expect a stiff, old-fashioned butler from classic English films; with Melvin, you feel like you are being hosted by a friend who simply wants to welcome you into his “home” and make sure you leave Mauritius with the best possible memories. Last but not least, the beautifully maintained beaches, the easy access to the ocean, and the immaculate cleanliness everywhere in the rooms, around the buildings, and in the restaurants deserve special mention. The food is of the highest quality, with a wide variety of dishes and restaurant concepts, so you never feel like you are eating the same thing over and over again. And the golf courses that are part of the resort? Pure paradise! Impeccably maintained greens and an overall world-class course condition. And just so I don’t forget to mention it, the resort also offers adults-only areas, including dedicated accommodation, swimming pools, beach sections, and even a designated area in the main restaurant. As much as we love children, this was a very pleasant and much-appreciated feature. By now, you have surely understood that we wholeheartedly recommend this hotel.
