We visit Mauritius annually in January for 10 days for my husband’s birthday and have stayed at numerous resorts. This year we decided to try a different part of the island and The Heritage le Telfair was recommended by our travel agent as offering a special experience. Sadly, the experience turned out to be less than special. The resort is beautiful with very well appointed rooms and a very attractive dining / entertainment area, but the service is lacking to say the least. The weather was bad for the most part of the our time there and whilst this cannot be blamed on the resort, when this happens and people spend less time outdoors, there is a requirement of service which is higher than usual. The staff at Annabella’s Restaurant simply couldn’t cope when the facility was full and appeared to be overwhelmed, ignoring patrons who waited indefinitely for any attention, let alone service. The Steakhouse at the golf course offers a beautiful environment and the service there was good, but the steak was of a poor standard and so chewy that I fed my portion to the resident cats. The Chateau Manor House is absolutely magnificent and our first meal there was Chateau Briand which was beautifully presented and delicious. We decided to return to The Chateau for dinner on my husband’s birthday and ordered the Veal Ribs. The meat was fatty and came in a bed of cornstarch mushroom sauce which was inedible. In our conversation with the chef with regard to the meal, he explained that the meat was fatty because it was fresh and conceded that the creamed mushroom sauce was in fact cornstarch and not cream. The cake which was organised by our wonderful hostess, Ashni, was delicious and we thank the Heritage for this special gesture. Email communication to us from the Holiday Factory representative Angelique, sent at 09.00 was not delivered until 11 hours later and a follow up email which was sent at 19.00 was not delivered to our room at all. Turndown service was a hit or miss occurrence which we had to address with management. In our first 6 days there we had 3 turndown services. Beach towels are delivered to the room with the turndown service, and if this doesn’t happen guests have a problem as there are no towels available at the pools or on the beach. Guests have to lie on soggy towels all day as the beach towel quota per person is one per day. Service is generally very slow and even the simple task of getting a bill can take in excess of 20 minutes. Special mention to 2 outstanding members of staff goes to: ASHNI, our ‘hostess’, who did her best to deal with our concerns politely, calmly and efficiently. I had requested to speak to the GM with regard to the email issue, and had no response and she saw to it that the duty manager Jimmy, contact us, amongst other things. DELPHINE, our daytime room maid, who did a sterling job and was always friendly and professional.

We stayed for 11 nights over New Year to celebrate my wife's 50th. Family of 4 with 2 teenagers. Initially booked 2 ground floor rooms, twin beds, but on arrival at hotel were advised that we would be in 2 upstair junior suites facing garden/river. This turned out to be a better choice for us as the views were amazing, gardens beautiful, front row seats on our veranda to watch the large fruit bats fly past and nest in trees. Really impressive. The rooms are very well presented and contain all amenities required and more. Turn down service at night. We were on the 'gourmet bliss' package and wanted for nothing. Really, outside Lobster and Foie gras, EVERYTHING is included. You can dine at all the restaurants, bars etc and not have to pay in anything extra. Same for drinks. In the bedroom the fridges are stocked daily with chocolates, crisps, drinks etc - also included in said package. Restaurants; Ginja the best by far - book early or you may not get in Chateau -worth the visit for the experience Annabellas -we really enjoyed all meals here and they serve very good breakfasts Had a good indian dinner at Awali Hotel -also included on package deal Beach is good and sea very good for snorkelling - drift method. Saw a lot of sea life Staff are friendly and helpful, we must single out Aubrey -waiter in Annebella, what a sincere, nice, educated and helpful man. Would we stay here again - most certainly , and for us this says a lot as we have been to Mauritius a number of times and stayed at similar star hotels.

We stayed at the Le Telfair for 5 nights in January. It's a large property with a variety of activities (golf, children's club and water excursions). The grounds are well kept and beautiful. It has a great pool and access to the beach. The bed rooms are large, modern and` clean. Breakfast has a variety of options including fresh fruits, breads, and an omelette station. The reason I gave this property a 4 instead of a 5 is because of the amenities and service. See below. - there are no beach towels available in the pool or swim area so you must bring a beach towel from your room. this means sitting on a soggy towel all day if you're in and out of the pool - outside of your room, none of the main areas (dining, bar, etc...) have air conditioning. they're open with fans but it becomes pretty warm - service is a bit slow and the place seems understaffed -our dinner at one of the reservation-only restaurants was cancelled (due to weather) and no one followed up with an alternative or to assist us in making a new reseravation - breakfast is crowded. multiple mornings we were surrounded by dirty tables that had not been cleared

We have spent two family holidays in this resort. Is is an outstanding resort that makes you feel special and is very relaxing. There is a welcoming reception area, maintained in a historical style, which is felt throughout the resort. Staff is nice and attentive. Location and grounds are beautiful, with memorable views, especially before sunset. One quite spectacular large swimming pool, plus another one. The gym, leisure centre with possibility to rent bikes and other equipment adds value. Breakfast is delicious and well presented. Dining is at high standard, albeit on the expensive side. Make sure you book your dinners as soon as you arrive, as seating is limited. Would recommend half board as good value. For families C Beach Club is a good option. Gin'ja is very stylish. In Chateau they should provide a more variable menu throughout the week. Look also for restaurants in neighbouring Heritage Awali. Staff can well advise on trips outside the resort. Trip to Frederica nature reserve was memorable, as well as snorkelling and dolphin watching. Since our last trip the place has undergone major renovation, on which we can't comment. It is a quiet place, which caters mostly for individual tourists and small groups, and I recommend to keep it like that. Overall it is a place we will always fondly remember and would consider returning to.

We stayed at Heritage for 5 days, including the New Year`s Eve. We had a wonderful time there. All staff is very attentive and the hotel facilities are beautiful. The best restaurants there are "Gan'ji" and "Le Chateau". The other restaurants (the ones that are included in the package), in our opinion, were not good. We booked a breakfast and dinner package. Unfortunately, we didn't know that this option includes other restaurants and not the best ones. We also didn't know that it was so difficult to make reservations at the two best restaurants and, we only had the chance to eat there 1 time during our stay. The New Year Gala Dinner was fantastic! And also was the whole entertainment for the night (fireworks, shows, etc). Concluding: I think the hotel should let guests know that some restaurants needed to be reserved before they arrive there and maybe we would have the chance to have dinner more than once on the best ones. I don't think that breakfast and dinner package is worth it. And a Sea view is also not worth it. Our sea view was not "a" sea view... Better stay at a garden view or a beach front.
