We were looking for a completely relaxing holiday and that's just what we got, the So Sofitel was on a quiet beach in Bel Ombre away from the busy tourist areas of the North and if quiet and peaceful is what you're after, this is the place for you. Raj the concierge always greeted us with a smile, remembered our names and reminded us to "Relax and Take it Easy" he offered great advice on trips and attractions to go and see and was very helpful with any requests which we had. Shankar was super helpful, a very friendly, polite waiter who took an interest in us aswell as what we wanted to order, a real asset to the team. Jamy was always ready with 2 vanilla rums for us (you have to try their home made one if you go, its beautiful) Phanella was always there with a happy greeting at breakfast, showing us to a great table and always had the coffee on the go. I also must mention 2 more of the team, Anil in the Takamaka who made us so welcome from the first time we walked in after a 12 hour flight, showed us round the restaurant and bar so we knew what to expect and kept up the stocks of the vanilla rum for us for the 2 weeks we were there. Then there's our guy Eric in La Plage, what a super friendly, very attentive guy, topping up the drinks and keeping us going with snacks. The staff here are the real gem of the So Sofitel! We stayed in room 107, a beautiful room, with a beautiful view, clean, spacious, the bed was very comfortable, it had all you needed, the team who cleaned the room topped us up with everything we needed whenever we needed it. The service was fantastic. The food at the So Sofitel is ok, the buffet at dinner was themed differently every night. was only ever warm not hot, hubby's favourite was the Wok Fusion squid at La Plage, I think the recipe/portions may have changed during our last few days, go back to the original it was awesone! One thing I would say is as an All Inclusive Guest I would have expected all of the food to be included, it's a luxury resort, and we paid a premium price to be there. I understand there is sometimes a price to pay for premium drinks but maybe just increase your price a little so that All Inclusive guests can have a pick of the food menu it did get a little restrictive and repetitive after 2 weeks of eating the same things. The only other thing I would say is the Boat House services were a little disappointing, after being told by Raj we could go there and borrow snorkel equipment we found that there was only 2 snorkel masks and they were being used by others so had to wait as they were booked out for an hour. Maybe just get a few more, even have enough to offer to guests which they could pick up on day 1 and hand back on their last day would be even better and a lot more hygienic. Or take your own. To summarise, we loved this hotel, we loved the location, we loved the staff and will recommend it to anyone who is looking for the same kind of holiday we experienced. "Relax, Take It Easy" ... Excellent Stay and Service Excellent Hotel with great customer service. All the staff is really friendly and ready to help always. Raj from the front desk was always ready to help and went the extra mile to ensure our comfortable stay. Pradeep and the bellboy did a great welcome with the slush welcome drink. Chef Prisca & Saina make excellent food every morning and always smiling and cheerful. Overall excellent staff and hospitality

We recently stayed at SO Sofitel Mauritius. There were some positive aspects, but unfortunately, the service and maintenance fell short of 5-star expectations. The Good: - The hotel is right on the beach with beautiful views. - The rooms are spacious and reasonably clean. - Many male staff members were wonderful—always smiling, greeting us, and making friendly conversation. The Disadvantages & Service Flaws: - Housekeeping issues: Used glasses and empty water bottles were left in the room without being cleared or replaced. We had to ask for new bottled water every single time. Hand towels were also not replaced. Furthermore, the bath towels were old, and some even had yellow stains. - Poor amenities: The shampoo and conditioner provided were of very low quality, leaving my hair feeling incredibly dry and rough. Extremely slow service: Every time we requested something, we had to wait at least 30 minutes, and sometimes up to an hour. - Unreliable buggy service: We booked a buggy for 3:30 AM to go hiking, but it never showed up as scheduled. - Power supply issues: The electricity in the room seemed to cut out or throttle overnight. My phone never fully charged; one morning it stopped at 70%, and on other nights, it barely charged at all. - Inconsistent staff attitude: While the male staff were great, some female staff at the front desk and the breakfast station (egg and pancake stations) looked very unwelcoming. There was no greeting or hospitality mindset. I couldn't help but wonder if this cold treatment was because we are Asian. Overall, the property itself is lovely, but the service needs a major overhaul to live up to the Sofitel brand.
