We had a wonderful stay at SO Sofitel. The location was the best on the island and the resort and beach are a true paradise. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable & it was lovely to feel we had our own private beautiful villa and beach. We loved to see all the tropical fish in the sea and enjoy watersports. And last but not least the staff were the most helpful and friendly we have ever encountered and nothing was too much trouble! We would recommend!

Our stay at So Sofitel was a last minute choice as our original holiday to the Maldives was cancelled. As this resort was rated 5* luxury we thought it was a great alternative. Sadly this wasn't the case. We were not sold the holiday as an adults only, but advised there wouldn't be many children due to it being 5* and in the South of the island where there isn't as much to do, unfortunately there were more families with children, than those without. The children took over the infinity pool as it was better for them than the sea, so we didn't go to that at all. Upon arrival and the first few days, first impressions were great, but after that the flaws started to show. The resort is very eco friendly, very tropical with the trees and plants etc. The room was huge and very comfy. There were two faults with the room.. There is an outside bath but you wouldn't use it as it was really filthy, maybe a cover on them would work? The second fault was, as all inclusive guests we expected a stocked mini fridge, with soft drinks and water each day. We had water each day but no soft drinks until we were in to our second week. When we checked if they were complimentary, we were told yes as we were all inclusive - we advised it was the first time this had happened, but we're just advised again they were free. There was a distinct lack of sunbeds, this didn't affect us as there wasn't a sunbed war, but there should be more available. The beds were extremely uncomfortable, as a 5* resort we expected cushions on them, they were also a lot that were damaged or corroded due to the salty sea air. On the whole, the resort is tired and needs a lot of refurbishment. There could also be more entertainment a few more nights otherwise it was a little too quiet. Now the good points, all the staff are extremely friendly, and so helpful, they cant do enough for you, special mention for Alexander, Raj, and the team on reception, and Miss Jamy, linli and the bar team. The food is lovely, great choices all day, a little inconsistent with the lunchtime snack arrangements. Our first week (1st April) we went to the poolside bar each day where they served things like burgers, club sandwiches etc. Going in to the second week, we went for lunch to be told the beach bar further along is now open and the pool bar wasn't serving food till after 3pm. The following day we went to the beach bar, but they weren't serving food this happened a couple of times. Also in the two weeks we stayed here, we were approached once on the beach to see if we needed a drink, was a little odd as it was only the once? The beach area in front of the pool is only small, lots of debris coral and shells, so water shoes are advised There is a spa on site, again lovely staff, and we had a fabulous balinese massage, but again the area is tired and needs a refurb as the showers in the toilets looked like they were so old and dirty you wouldn't want to step in to them.
