The staff at this hotel are exceptional, so extremely helpful and polite from the front of house to the chefs! The rooms are very stylist and modern. We were lucky enough to stay in both - starting off in a garden room then to the beach front suite. The suite was incredible with a huge bed and a plunge pool just outside with a view of the beach & out to sea.The bathroom was a beautiful design with both bath and shower. We were celebrating a birthday so chose to have a private BBQ on the beach by the bar which was a wonderful experience -the lovely chef comes to tell you how to cook each item beforehand which was fun. It's very magical at night as the palm trees are lit up and it looks so beautiful. We had an absolutely delicious fruit birthday cake too made by the chefs. The beach has beautiful sand but you may need beach shoes if you go out further due to the shells/rocks/coral. There is a glass bottomed boat and lots of water sports that can be done next to the beach restaurant/bar. The food is amazing, so much choice of everything from breakfast to dinner.

Set in tropical gardens close to the beach the rooms are very spacious and comfortable. The food was very nice and did not seem repetitive. The overall service from the staff is outstanding with everyone just wanting to make your stay as enjoyable as they possibly can...nothing was too much trouble. Our only one disappointment was the beach we love to snorkel but the current is quite strong even in the shallow water and you definitely need shoes on..lots of sharp broken coral and hardly any fish to be did not look very inviting. The pool is quite nice and Yannick will take great care of you making sure you have a drink at all times! Thank you also to Raj Satish Jamy Hashvin and Girish for looking after us and being so friendly and professional at all times. This is a nice place to stay if you are looking for peace and quiet set in 14acres surrounded by sugarcane fields and mountainous backdrop on the remote part of the south of the island.

This holiday was an amazing 50th Birthday surprise from my husband.....didn’t know what country until check in at London and what hotel until the transfer dropped us off! I have been in the Travel Industry for many years and so have been lucky enough to travel extensively to many countries and to many luxury hotels including those in the North of the island in Mauritius. This was to be my first experience of the South. What can I say about So truly is one of the best hotels I have stayed in! The grounds are extensive and green, everywhere you look is picturesque. The resort lay out is just perfect, it is quiet, you are not tripping over people to get to breakfast, lunch or dinner or the bar. A sun bed is always there waiting for you whether that be at the pool or the beach - it is just perfect! The food at Le Flaymboyant, La Plage and Takamaka Poolside is excellent - a good variety that met the requirements of my fussy self! Nothing appeared to be too much trouble if you wanted to change a component of what was set and printed on the menu, all was done with a wonderful smile. The Spa is SO amazing, in its design, its product and its service! The accommodation is lovely, very comfortable and well laid out - our room was cleaned to a high standard daily, the mini bar restocked and the lovely touches of chocolates being left every evening, red heart helium balloons (Valentines Day), Fortune Cookies and Lucky Red envelope with money in it for you to use at the Chinese New Year celebration just made the holiday so perfect and enjoyable! What sets this hotel apart from the rest for me is the impeccable service that you receive from check in to check out! Whilst my husband let the Tour Operator know that it was my 50th Birthday whilst I was there, he did not contact the hotel directly to advise them but boy, did they make my day special, they did all of this without being asked! At breakfast, I was wished Happy Birthday by several members of staff, in fact all day I had staff stopping me to wish me a Happy Birthday, some of these staff members, I was sure I hadn’t met before as I had only arrived the evening before! A cake was presented in the evening and whilst we were out, a light show of stars was set up in our room which on our return certainly was a surprise and gave us the wow factor that I had not experienced at any other hotel before! Every member of staff at So Sofitel Mauritius made our stay perfect but I do want to say a very special thank you to the following as they looked after us exceptionally well on a regular basis..... Giresh, Raj , Jamy, Satish, Rajeev, Ashvin, Anne Lise, Nisha and Mevina - thank you so much! Sofitel So have a compliment of staff who work exceptionally hard to make your guests feel SO special and make their holidays perfect - you should be SO very proud of them and all that they do. Thank you SO very much for making my 50th Birthday celebration such a special one and our holiday SO perfect. We were certainly very sad to leave. I am not one to return to the same hotel as I like to experience new every time but you have made it an exception.....we will be returning and very soon! I would without any shadow of a doubt recommend So Sofitel Mauritius to everyone!

We are just back from a short holiday in Mauritius during which we stayed at So Sofitel Bel Ombre. The Resort as such is located in the southern coast of Mauritius and is a great place if you are looking for Peace and serenity amidst lush Greenery. We arrived late night and was extremely tired after a long flight . We were met by the buggy driver at the entrance who said we could check in to the room and the Check in staff would complete the formalities at the room which was indeed a blessing. Score 1 for So Sofitel. However, I have other qualms that bring down the rating for this Hotel. Only two restaurants and only one restaurant serves breakfast La Flamboyant which when you are staying for a week tends to be get a tad boring . We tried lunch at La Plage . Although by the beachside, we were swarmed by flies making it almost impossible to enjoy your meal. My 8 years old son wasn’t pleased and wanted to retire to the room. Dinner was at LA Flamoboyant which was decent enough and one night we were lucky to enjoy the Mahashivartri special cuisine and lovely dances at the Takamaka Bar . The staff at the restaurant were nice and courteous but we noticed that the staff worked rather long shifts and you could see they were really tired which also probably explains the poor room service both in terms of food and housekeeping. We had two days where the housekeeping just forgot to clean our rooms ….Annoying!Several calls layer , issues were sorted. Toiletries were not replaced as you would expect from 5 * hotels. This was quite a surprise as we had lovely experience with Sofitel in Dubai. Rooms---- The Lushary Rooms are spacious with a huge bathroom that comes with an outdoor rain shower .There is also an outdoor tub if you feel like soaking away your troubles. We had a room that was in the perfect location close to the Kids club , restaurant and spa . Kids club has a kids pool which was quite popular with the kids . The staff at the club were really nice and got the kids involved with activities . I still think the kids club needs an upgrade as compared to the ones we had seen elsewhere. The Spa offered free sauna , relaxation Lounge and a plunge hot tub .My Husband and I treated ourselves to massages that was sheer bliss. Something to keep in mind…there are different offers every day and we got lucky with a 30% off on one of the days. Beach and Pool--- The Pool was temperature controlled and was lovely but there were no life guards on duty which I strongly think is a definite NO NO for a hotel that calls itself a 5* . The cocktails and mocktails served at the pool side was refreshing and the pool itself was clean. Lots of lounge chairs and Beach beds . The beach was clearly my favourite place on the property.Although it was hot and humid , we enjoyed our time and walks at the beach. There are no convenience stores nearby so that’s something to keep in mind.  Overall we enjoyed our time there but it could have been a lot better !
