The Fitzwilliam Hotel Belfast

I arrived by taxi at the Fitzwilliam Hotel.At check-in realised I had lost my wallet with cards ,ID. etc. The wonderful receptionist, Leanne, contacted the taxi company, tracked down the driver and within half an hour my wallet was returned complete with contents. The room is very comfortable and the hotel definitely is 5 star. The receptionist Leanne gets an additional 🌟 star.

Just home after an enjoyable weekend spent in the Fitzwilliam in Belfast. I got the train up from Dublin and the hotel is literally only a 5 minute walk from the station. It’s pretty centrally located too. Check in was fine and on first view the room is quite nice and well appointed. Apart for no where to put your luggage as you unpack, no luggage rack. On the 7th floor but unfortunately not much of a view. I ate in the bar both evenings and the service from Brian and his team was excellent, both friendly and attentive. Food is pretty good in the bar too, excellent steaks. Good entertainment on at night time too. Breakfast however was a bit of a mixed bag. First morning I was seated without any explanation of how it all worked. Then a girl arrived down to the table asking if I’d like to order a hot breakfast. Again I wasn’t asked if I’d been there before therefore familiar with the set up. It was only then I was informed that the continental was all self service buffet style in the next room and that you ordered any hot items at the table. The cold buffet had all the usual offerings. The cooked breakfast (Ulster fry) was quite good. On the second morning service wasn’t much better. I must add all the while all the staff were most courteous. Service was quite haphazard to say the least but the food was again quite good. On check out I was asked the obligatory question of was everything ok. My only real gripe was that the Wi-Fi didn’t work great in the room, if at all. I couldn’t really watch the football on my iPad as it kept freezing, quite frustrating. When I mentioned this to the girl I was informed “oh a lot of people must have been using it!” Surely a totally unacceptable response from a 5 star property. All in all an enjoyable stay

We been lucky enough to stay in many 5* hotels around the world and the Fitzwilliam was up there with the best. The reason I haven’t given 5 stars is because the bed let it down. It was very bouncy and creaky so every time one of us moved. The other woke up. We ended up taking turns sleeping on the floor which was not ideal and I’m now unwell due to lack of sleep. Phone charging points were around the room but only on one side of the bed. The hotel staff were very helpful and friendly and anything we asked for was delivered to the room very promptly. If you’re a lone traveller, this hotel would be ideal.

Distinctly trading on its name and former glories We arrived to be shown to a room where the windows were so dirty you could not see out of them. When we asked for a different room, we were told the windows are cleaned every two weeks on the outside. This was absolutely not the case with this room's windows. We were given a different room, but this time the window had a large streak of bird droppings across it, though it was somewhat better than the last. Miraculously, the next day the window cleaners arrived. The next issue was with the air conditioning, which was either too hot, too cold, or too loud. Unbelievably poor for a supposed 5 * hotel. Multiple maintenance visits made no difference The first breakfast was like walking into a student cafeteria – see the posted picture. The dining room had buffet service, but none of the tables had been cleared, so we were shown to the only one in this section of the dining room that had been set and cleaned. For the entire time we were at breakfast, nobody came to clear the rest of the tables. The next few days were clearer, but the queue to get into the restaurant was unnecessarily long and slow, as only the manager was allowed to cross names off the list!? When we checked out, we were given a token discount Find somewhere else to stay in Belfast – not worth it, and nobody seemed to care
