Way Too Expensive For What You Get

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 11 hours ago

It's sad that such a landmark hotels comes up so short when providing the basics. Let's start with the restaurants. The Limewood restaurant has an incredible view and is a lovely place to see the SF skyline and Golden Gate Bridge, but its menu is sorely lacking, has one just item for vegetarians and none for vegans (the watermelon salad was the worst I have ever tasted). To make matters worse, the only other option for something to eat at night is a bar in the main lobby area, which has a shortened menu of the restaurant and literally nothing for vegetarians. (There is room service but we didn't use it). It's 2026, they should realize not all patrons eat meat and should offer a better selection of food. The coffee shop below, however, is very good and has some tasty items on the menu, but the service needs a lot of work. And sadly it isn't opened after 4pm if you want to grab a bite in the evening. The gym and its facilities are great - really airy, good equipment, free tea and coffee, fitness classes and overall a really nice place to exercise. It was the highlight of our stay. The rooms. Good grief. The air-conditioning read 65F (18C) but it was more like 75 (23C) and we were uncomfortable while sleeping. The bed was comfortable enough but pillows weren't, so a stiff neck was our punishment a few days in the morning. Housecleaning didn't check supplies and we had to ask for more conditioner, more shower gel and more tissues, which was annoying. They also didn't dust well or clean the table after we had had a meal on it (there were still smudges). This is not a cheap hotel. It was more than $500 per night, which should come with excellent service, comfortable rooms, delicious food and the feeling of being pampered. We had none of that. It's really a shame these hotels are allowed to charge so much just for being in Berkeley, where many people visit their children at school or are in town for events. Do better, Claremont. Rise to your price point.

Friendly and accommodating check in process

This is a note of thanks for the service provided by Effie, the person who checked us in to the hotel for a birthday weekend with our son. We arrived before our check in time and had to wait a bit for our room. When we did get to the room our son had two birthday cards--a generic (but still nice) one from the hotel and a personalized one Effie. After a long drive, her warmth and enthusiasm made us feel very welcome at the hotel.

Same Day Cancellation on a Pregnant Woman

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 5 days ago

I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience with the Claremont Hotel was extremely disappointing. I have returned here multiple times as a guest, but no longer will visit the property. The hotel cancelled our reservation on the day of check-in, leaving us scrambling to find another place to stay. Not only was this inconvenient, but I am also pregnant and this created an unnecessary amount of stress. What was most frustrating was the complete lack of accountability. There was no offer of a credit, a future stay, or any meaningful attempt to make the situation right. We were told they would find us a comparable hotel at the same rate, but nothing came of it. Even getting our refund required multiple follow-ups. I understand that unexpected issues happen, but great customer service is measured by how they’re handled. Unfortunately, the Claremont Hotel failed on every front, and I would not recommend staying here.
