The Claremont Hotel Club & Spa in Berkeley, California

Views of San Francisco Bay and the city skyline are killer at the Claremont Hotel Club & Spa. That might be why the property was so appealing to a Kansas farmer who struck it rich during the Gold Rush and built an elaborate English castle for his wife. After a fire destroyed the castle the land changed hands, and was allegedly won by a developer in a game of checkers. When the Claremont opened in 1915, it housed a radio station and private school. Today, its architecture gives the resort a timeless sense of grandiosity.

Dive into one of the resort's lap pools to get your blood flowing. Recline under a blue umbrella on a poolside lounger while a waiter serves a seared Ahi tuna niçoise salad for lunch. Take an afternoon drive to downtown Berkeley, checking out the shops on Fourth Street on the way to Berkeley Marina. Sip chardonnay as the Golden Gate Bridge twinkles in the setting sun.

Came here for 4 days conference and the food quality at lunch and dinner is bad. The fish is overcooked. Room has no water and cost $8 per bottle. Aircon in noisy and when checked out the breakfast bill was charged wrongly for things you don't eat. Parking is expensive at $33 per night and worst can't pay by visa somehow.. bad experience ..but people here is nice

Stopped here overnight on our way north because they have destination chargers for our Tesla. We'd never been to Berkeley before and felt like we'd stumbled upon a hidden gem! Lovely college town, beautiful, historic hotel with all the bells and whistles. Wish we could've stayed longer.

Family trip to this hotel did not dissapoint. Fantastic value. I signed up for their rewards program and got an immediate discount on their standard room. You dont stay here for the spacious rooms, you stay here for the beauty, history, view, and amenities. If you love historic hotels this is your place in the Berkeley area. Here are the little things I loved about it. Inside; new bathrooms, showers very modern and clean. Very comfortable beds. Views ( among the best anywhere...see pics). Outside; 2 salt water pools. A ton of tennis courts in great shape, and a fitness facility. Basically it is a spa club set up. Terrific pool side food and bar as well. This was by far the best hotel stay i have had in the east bay in ... i dont know, forever.

We booked a room at the Claremont for a weekend away from our home in San Francisco so that we could bring our baby to the pool during a hot weekend. Total disappointment and hazardous conditions for children. 1. The children's pool was a whopping 97 degrees (verified by the Claremont's own signage). This is far too hot for children, especially when the ambient temperature was 90 degrees. For comparison, the children's pool was only 7 degrees cooler than the hot tub. When I alerted the staff to this, their first reactions were to deny responsibility. Ultimately, they announced to the children in the pool that it may be unsafe. Parents took their children out, and I heard one exclaim, "I was wondering why you were getting so red!" Another pregnant woman expressed concern that the pool may have been too hot for her. Babies are not permitted in the large pool, notwithstanding posted rules that indicate they are permitted with a swim diaper, so we were left with no pool to swim in. The whole reason we came to the Claremont was to swim. 2. Their elevator permits have expired. Further indication that they do not take safety seriously. 3. The valet turned off the automatic headlights on our car, in broad daylight no less. We didn't discover this until we were driving around at night. I texted the Claremont with my concerns (per their suggestion to "text us with anything!"), and they didn't respond. Only after I texted the Claremont 24 hours later saying I was surprised I still hadn't received a response did they respond with "apologies for the inconvenience." We have stayed at the Claremont over a dozen times. This visit was a major disappointment, and we won't be returning this summer.

We started our holidays in Claremont Spa&Club to relax and recover from jetlag before heading to San Francisco were we stayed in the Fairmont SF. The hotel is well located (green surroundings and away from the hustle and bustle of city life. Room was nice with a view on the bay. Mattresses and beddings were very comfortable. Breakfast was a la carte (no buffet) but offered great choices. Service was very friendly and professional. We tried the Limewood restaurant which offered casual dining with good food and fresh oysters. We spent some time at pool to relax and sunbath. However, and that is our only disappointment during our stay, pool area was overcrowded as outside guests are allowed to enter the pool area. For transportation bus stop is located 5 walking minutes from the hotel with buses riding to city center or to the bay. For our departure hotel organised a Limousine service to Fairmont San Francisco for 70 USD.
