Endlessly Charming

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

What a gem! The Claremont Resort, perched high in the hills overlooking Berkeley, is utterly magnificent—part grand railway-era resort, part neighborhood clubhouse, and part stylish private retreat. This sprawling historic wonder is endlessly charming. The feeling inside is one of refreshed nostalgia, with contemporary California restraint blended into an eclectic style that is both fabulous and warm. The rooms are elegant, composed, and impossibly comfortable. The pool, tennis courts, and old-school locker rooms are equally excellent and delightful. And while the historic charm and modern-day luxury are reason enough to choose the Claremont, it is the staff who make it truly special. The attentiveness, warmth, and genuine sense of belonging they provide are rare and remarkable. We have stayed at the resort more than 20 times, and the lovely individuals who work here are why we return again and again. Effie has repeatedly gone above and beyond, as has Makiva, who makes each stay feel like coming home. The Claremont is a unique and special experience that I cannot recommend highly enough. It is truly one of a kind.

Great Labor Day Weekend Getaway/Staycation!

Great Labor Day Weekend Getaway/Staycation! The family spent Labor Day enjoying the pool and soaking in the warm weather. Great activities for the kids and had an amazing breakfast at East Bay Provisions. Can't wait to come back again!

Room not ready at check-in; rowdy crowds at pool

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Convenient location for walking to UC Berkeley football games. Hotel offered shuttle, but charge would have been $10 per person. Room was not ready at 4 pm check-in time. Insufficient staffing at check-in desk meant waiting in multi-person line every time we tried to check on room status. Lobby was full of other guests waiting for the same reason, and felt chaotic due at least two pop-up stores selling clothing and art. Spa is permanently closed at this time. Pool is completely crowded with local families using it as a swim club, and swim lessons loudly dominate pool deck. No food was available for purchase poolside when we arrived just before 5 pm. We have stayed here many times over the years, especially during the four years that our daughter was an undergraduate. The hotel seems to be very short-staffed at this time compared to our previous stays.

The Claremont Resort wowed my husband as soon as I walked in. Effie, the front desk attendant made us feel like family. We were blown away.
