The Claremont Hotel Club & Spa in Berkeley, California

Views of San Francisco Bay and the city skyline are killer at the Claremont Hotel Club & Spa. That might be why the property was so appealing to a Kansas farmer who struck it rich during the Gold Rush and built an elaborate English castle for his wife. After a fire destroyed the castle the land changed hands, and was allegedly won by a developer in a game of checkers. When the Claremont opened in 1915, it housed a radio station and private school. Today, its architecture gives the resort a timeless sense of grandiosity.

Dive into one of the resort's lap pools to get your blood flowing. Recline under a blue umbrella on a poolside lounger while a waiter serves a seared Ahi tuna niçoise salad for lunch. Take an afternoon drive to downtown Berkeley, checking out the shops on Fourth Street on the way to Berkeley Marina. Sip chardonnay as the Golden Gate Bridge twinkles in the setting sun.

Its a haunted house site!! We stayed in the hotel my husband and i for 4 nights, Check in was a breeze with loire whose so friendly and accommodate our preferences. Location is far away from everywhere except a gas station. Room: they vary in size, maintenance and look. Bathroom: very nice decorated, but cleaning isn't the best. Bed was so comfortable TV is big and the cable i really liked with big varity of channels Pool is lovely unfortunately they don't have indoor one, spa whirlpool is working only until 5 which is to disappointing Breakfast: ala carte, good plates but myself and colleagues we noticed that food and drinks were served in dirty cup with lipgloss stains and dirty cutlery. Staff in the breakfast room wasn't nice neither friendly (they don't listen enough) Room service was ok with speed, taste was below average. During my stay i noticed many tray were laying next to doors for more than 5 hours without pick up. We were waiting for some items for Delivery unfortunately delivering each item to the right receptionist was a complete mess. All staff except in the restaurant were great and friendly. In general, i would t recommend it for a stay if you have other option its far away from every thing

The exterior of the hotel feels like you are a century behind... as you come through the doors you’ll be treated to modern luxury. A great balance of old world architecture with up to date modern touches makes this an incredible hotel. I was most delighted with the rooms. Though vintage by size, the elegance of the marble finishes and high end european fixtures makes this a true delight. I was on the 7th floor. I was treated to amazing views of both the Golden Gate as well as Bay bridge

A wonderful experience. Beautiful room, great staff, great overall perfect stay. I have been coming to the Claremont Hotel for years, and I have never had a bad experience. I would recommend it to anyone visiting Berkeley.

My absolute favorite hotel ever! It has everything! Beautiful rooms with all you could ever ask for, the most comfortable beds, interior design is very nice, good restaurants and last but not least- a wonderful gym, so well equipped, and swimmingpool. It has been renovated since last time we visited Claremont, and maybe lost 5 percent of it's special soul, but it's still the most fabulous hotel for us. The staff is also very helpful.

This is one of our favorite hotels in the Bay Area. Perched on the slopes of the Berkeley Hills, this hotel offers spectacular views of the Bay from very large and beautifully furnished rooms. There's a heated pool at the property, although the cool winds of the Bay Area can make it a bit hard to swim for people unaccustomed to the weather. (When it gets cold, the hot tub is a perfect place to warm up.) The service is consistently excellent, and my kids, who are very well-traveled, claim that the breakfast at this hotel is the best in the world. This is our go-to hotel in the Bay Area these days and we look forward to many more visits.
