The Claremont Hotel Club & Spa in Berkeley, California

Views of San Francisco Bay and the city skyline are killer at the Claremont Hotel Club & Spa. That might be why the property was so appealing to a Kansas farmer who struck it rich during the Gold Rush and built an elaborate English castle for his wife. After a fire destroyed the castle the land changed hands, and was allegedly won by a developer in a game of checkers. When the Claremont opened in 1915, it housed a radio station and private school. Today, its architecture gives the resort a timeless sense of grandiosity.

Dive into one of the resort's lap pools to get your blood flowing. Recline under a blue umbrella on a poolside lounger while a waiter serves a seared Ahi tuna niçoise salad for lunch. Take an afternoon drive to downtown Berkeley, checking out the shops on Fourth Street on the way to Berkeley Marina. Sip chardonnay as the Golden Gate Bridge twinkles in the setting sun.

The Claremont Hotel is spectacular. We were there as Napa evacuees from the fire. Everyone at the hotel could not have been more gracious and compassionate-to us and to all evacuees that arrived for their stay. The service is excellent, and the food is also wonderful. I love the decor at the hotel and in the rooms-style, colors, ceiling moldlings, etc. My husband and I highly recommend it!

After staying at the Claremont I was surprised at how mixed the reviews are for this hotel. As you come in the lobby you can see views out over the bay. The check in was very smooth even though we arrived pretty early. We hadn’t reserved a room with a view but were given one since it was ready. The room itself was spacious and had tons of outlets with USB adapters as well as plugs. Our room had a table and loveseat. Oh yeah and the view was a very nice bonus! We spent a weekday afternoon at the pool and had no problems with chairs like I’d seen in other reviews. We ate lunch outside at the restaurant (Limekill?) and the food was good with a decent selection of craft beers.

I stayed here with my family for a work event. The staff here is amazing! Loved the service!! I'm a wedding planner and our bride and groom and their friends and family stayed at this hotel. They were very well received and the staff took exceptional care of them and my family too! This hotel is an amazing one to stay at!! The pool was awesome! My kids loved it!

Its a haunted house site!! We stayed in the hotel my husband and i for 4 nights, Check in was a breeze with loire whose so friendly and accommodate our preferences. Location is far away from everywhere except a gas station. Room: they vary in size, maintenance and look. Bathroom: very nice decorated, but cleaning isn't the best. Bed was so comfortable TV is big and the cable i really liked with big varity of channels Pool is lovely unfortunately they don't have indoor one, spa whirlpool is working only until 5 which is to disappointing Breakfast: ala carte, good plates but myself and colleagues we noticed that food and drinks were served in dirty cup with lipgloss stains and dirty cutlery. Staff in the breakfast room wasn't nice neither friendly (they don't listen enough) Room service was ok with speed, taste was below average. During my stay i noticed many tray were laying next to doors for more than 5 hours without pick up. We were waiting for some items for Delivery unfortunately delivering each item to the right receptionist was a complete mess. All staff except in the restaurant were great and friendly. In general, i would t recommend it for a stay if you have other option its far away from every thing

The exterior of the hotel feels like you are a century behind... as you come through the doors you’ll be treated to modern luxury. A great balance of old world architecture with up to date modern touches makes this an incredible hotel. I was most delighted with the rooms. Though vintage by size, the elegance of the marble finishes and high end european fixtures makes this a true delight. I was on the 7th floor. I was treated to amazing views of both the Golden Gate as well as Bay bridge
