Reviews for Claremont Club & Spa, A Fairmont Hotel

overpriced

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

Noisy issues in the rooms, not as good as it seems. Very rude receptionist at the main restaurant. Too expensive for what it offers. It looks more like a club than a 5 star hotel. Very nice front desk staff and restaurant waiters. Safe location for a difficult city.

A longtime Claremont dream come true

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

I graduated Cal in the 90s, but when I was a student there I always dreamed about one day being able to afford to stay at the Claremont. I would stare at the beautiful and grand building, and wanted so badly to experience a stay there. I moved to the East Coast in 1998, and have come to the Bay Area countless times for business, to see friends, attend the Big Game, and even to get married, but it never worked out that I could stay at the Claremont! I wanted to on many occasions, but I alway ended up somewhere else. I had a business trip in Vegas so I decided to pop in and see some friends, and this time I decided that it was time to finally stay at the Claremont, and fulfill that longtime dream! You know how they say to never meet your idols because you will be disappointed? Well, that was not the case here. I met mine and it was everything I thought it would be...and more! I admit, I was a little nervous when I arrived Wednesday night. I had just spent 3 nights at the Wynn in Las Vegas, so I think coming from that "flash" to the old world charm of the Claremont was a bit jarring...but not for long. First off, the room was spotlessly clean! I had a Signature King with the most amazing views of the city, the bay, the bridges, everything. The bed was exceptionally comfortable. The bathroom was well lit and lovely. The food was delicious (both at Limewood and through room service). I enjoyed the gym, the spa (excellent massage), and walking around the beautiful grounds. There was easy access to beautiful and challenging hikes. I was in heaven! However, what really stood out was the lovely staff. Everyone was kind, accommodating, professional, knowledgeable, and helpful. The staff even helped me out in two extraordinary ways. The first was the concierge who encouraged me to use the town car service rather than rely on Uber for my early morning flight home. Sure enough, as I was leaving I overheard someone saying that TWO Ubers had cancelled on her already that morning. The second was with room service. I had a long flight and never eat the airplane meal, but was leaving too early to stop somewhere for healthy food. I called down to room service the night before and asked if they could prepare a bagel, fruit (by the way they fruit plate is phenomenal), and coffee, but bring it all in to-go packaging so I could take it with me. I also needed it all delivered promptly at 6 am. They did! Complete with utensils, napkins, and carrying bag. I travel A LOT, and stay at many fine hotels, and I have had the same request denied before (or delivered too late). The dining staff said they were happy to help me out. I fear this review is a bit too long, but I just wanted to express the wonderful experience I had at the Claremont. I plan to come back again this year with my husband, and plan to make it my go to place whenever I am in the East Bay. Thank you Claremont. You were a dream come true! P.S. My main advice is to get a room with a view and bring some hiking shoes!

nice hotel, shame about the rip-off resort fees

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Its a grand old hotel, well-maintained, with gorgeous views. The rooms are poorly insulated and on a coldish April night, you will freeze even with the heater on. Worst of all is the mandatory "resort fee" (not disclosed at booking time). Instead of paying $250, I ended up paying over 300$ a night for services (electric bike, tennis) I never used and had no interest in using. Resort fees are illegal in California and the hotel collects them anyway, daring its customers to report them (which I did).

Awful

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 weeks ago

Utterly piss-poor; arrogant staff, zero in house dining after midnight, truly not at the races compared to other so-called luxury hotels. I can’t wait yo leave, I will get better service at a Days Inn

The front desk could not have been more accommodating. Our room is beautiful and the pool is lovely. The views from the grounds are incredible as well. Highly recommend for couples and families.
