Reviews for The Regent, Berlin
This is a fantastic hotel with good-sized and very comfortable rooms. There is a very good choice at breakfast - the hot food is ordered but usually arrives very quickly. The hotel is in a great location and within easy walking distance to the main areas of interest and there are lots of cafes and restaurants nearby. The staff were extremely helpful and friendly.

Like the previous reviewer has said the Regent is very well situated and within walking distance to the major attractions and good restaurants. Our deluxe room on the fifth floor was large, bright, spotlessly clean, very comfortable with a lovely bathroom and separate toilet. It’s the staff in a hotel that help to make a trip great and all the staff at the Regent did exactly that. Without exception they were friendly, effficient and extremely helpful. It was really nice having the doorman smile and say ‘welcome back’ after a day of sightseeing. A special thank you to the concierge Cem Wieldt who is a credit to the hotel. This charming man helped us choose restaurants, gave us excellent general advice and printed our boarding passes etc. All his recommendations were first class. We did however have a few issues: We were very disappointed to find that the hotel’s Michelin restaurant was closed for refurbishment until March. On our arrival we had a light lunch in the bar and resented being charged euro10 for a bottle of mineral water. Even in a five star hotel we thought this excessive!! The Wi-fi in the room was unpredictable and often cut out which was very annoying indeed. Luckily we were on holiday and didn’t need to work with it but if we had of done it just wouldn’t have been acceptable. Having said that if we return to Berlin we’d definitely stay at the Regent again.

We enjoyed a three-night visit (our third) to the elegant Regent, although our experience was somewhat less outstanding than before. There is no better location for a tourist - one block S of the centre of the Unter den Linden and close to the Gendarmenmarkt, Berlin's excellent public transport, hi-end shopping, most of the top museums and many of the classical music/opera venues and best restaurants. The immediate area has been elegantly rebuilt in the past 20 + years but has a slightly 'dead' feel at times. While the hotel is new-build (c. 1995), the interior is traditional luxe but in a muted style which emphasises function over bling. Our 'superior king' room - the lowest category - was comfortable, spacious and well-designed. The bathroom was equally good, with a walk-in shower, a (small) bath and a separate toilet. However, we found it difficult to get the heating to work properly and the thermostat was disconnected from reality. And there was only one armchair! All the staff we met were friendly and efficient but we didn't test them much. We enjoyed our breakfast and a last dinner in Fischers Frtitz, the hotel's famous two-rosette Michelin restaurant, which we were disappointed to hear was due to close in January for major remodelling. But on one morning we were diverted from there to the nearby bar for a sub-standard breakfast, which would have been an even more irritating experience if we were charged the €39 rack rate for it. And we were also surprised to find that the hotel offers no credit from the b and b rate for a room service breakfast, a unique policy in our experience. WiFi is free and uncomplicated to use. Extras are high-priced. Despite some irritants, the Regent is a genuine five-star and fairly good value, although less so than previously. We rate our experience just 5/5 and may check alternatives for our next visit.

Everything about this hotel is great - service, people, furnishings, decoration, cleanliness - amazing!! Loved it, the highlight of the trip. Not a hotel for party goers but then thats what we liked about it - quiet, very well run, staff anticipating your needs and nothing was any trouble. Worth paying extra to stay here - the memories of a bad hotel experience stay too long to save some money - this is the best hotel ever. And a great location. Food was wonderful too. Outstanding....
The Regent is located right in the middle of Berlin on the edge of one of it's most famous and beautiful plazas - The Gendarmenmarkt. ("Men of Arms Market") If you visit in the summer there is a good chance that you will be able to see an outdoor classical music concert or some other event on the square. Despite the central location the hotel area is not too crowded as it is a bit apart from where the big tourist crowds gravitate to. The hotel itself is what you would expect from a 5 star. Very "old world elegance" with the decor and .. if air conditioning is important to you you wont be disappointed!
