Alila Ventana Big Sur

I cannot say enough about this hidden gem. The location is one of a kind where else can you have beach view and mountains in the back? Everything about our stay was perfect. We were upgraded to an amazing room with a big soaking tub inside the room and a hot tub outside with an ocean view. We would’ve stayed forever if we could. The employees were amazing and had such a great attention to detail. They have so many activities while you’re there and beautiful walking trails around the property. This place is literally one of a kind and with it being all inclusive everything you need is there. We found the food to be amazing and we literally can’t wait to go back. What an incredible week, we are already planning our return. The food was exceptional, the views are incredible of the ocean, and the redwoods. The rooms are spacious, and the 24 hour access to the sauna and heated pools was fantastic. We loved the resort included and paid experiences, Like beekeeping and hiking.

Beyond expectations! Ventana will exceed your every wish. The sprawling property gives you the opportunity to be enveloped by nature yet have the modern conveniences surround you. If you are looking for a place to get away this is it. The spa is beyond relaxing. Each treatment better than the one before. The food!!! Wow does not explain it well enough. The staff from check in to check out your needs are beyond met.

It is truly disappointing when a property as breathtaking as Ventana Big Sur is undermined by a complete lack of professional courtesy and management oversight. I attempted to book a reservation using a one-night stay credit I had on file. Because this required manual processing, I reached out to the management team. My initial call went unreturned. I followed up with an email to the manager—silence. After waiting through the weekend, I called again and was told the manager, Jaime, was in a meeting but would return my call shortly. That call never came. The contrast in service standards becomes glaringly obvious when compared to neighboring properties. After being ignored by Ventana, I contacted Post Ranch Inn; their manager emailed me back in less than five minutes. It is a shame that such a world-class destination is being run by a team that seemingly cannot be bothered to respond to guests or honor existing credits. If you value your time and expect basic communication, look elsewhere. Ventana may have the views, but they are severely lacking the management required to sustain a luxury experience.

This was our second January visit to Ventana and except for the weather it was superb. This all inclusive resort when booked with Hyatt Points represents the best value you can get when you consider rooms are close to $2000 a night. That being said the highlight is the employees. They are all trained so well and are polite and professional and no request is denied. We were upgraded to the Big Sur Suite, a 600+ suite with a fireplace and two easy chairs, a large deck and a hammock. The fireplace was especially nice as it rained most of Monday and Monday night. We used it so much we ran out of firewood which of course they replaced with no charge. The food in the Big Sur restaurant is superb, beautifully plated and delicious. If you arrive early afternoon and your accomodations are not ready they invite you to have lunch on them, either at the restuarant or the pool. After checking out, we were permitted to stay on property using the pool and hot tub and also getting lunch. SWEET! Every employee we came accross were wonderful, but I want to especially thank Jamie in Reception and Angel, Michael, Rachel, and Juan in the restaurant. I can hardly wait for next January. Cheers!
