I have stayed in many. many 5 star resorts around the world. I had stayed in the Ventana long ago when it was run well and more than lived up to it's promises. We were celebrating our anniversary and would have been more comfortable in a tent on the ground. It would be a complete waste of my time to go into all the things wrong with this hotel upon their reopening. Suffice it to say, they were not anywhere near ready to be open and until they are I strongly recommend you stay elsewhere. Of all the disappointments during our five night stay, the following is the cherry on top of it all. (I was not going to write a review at all but after a convo with a friend, I changed my mind because this is an unacceptable example of their lack of service) Before arriving, we had visited friends in Monterey. One friend is the director of the Bay Aquarium. He gave us his membership card so that we could visit the aquarium without paying admission, which is completely acceptable and what a nice gift! What our friend did not tell us is that he needed the card back. He told us this after we had left and checked into the Ventana. As is the custom at good 5 star resorts, I asked for an envelope, addressed it and gave it, along with $5, to a staff member. I even told him the reason for returning the card to it's owner. I cannot count the number of times I have trusted the staff at hotel to make sure a letter was mailed and there has been no problem. $5 is quite the tip for this simple task. 3 weeks after the original request, our friend had still not received his membership card in the mail. We called the Ventana, texted them, and they said they would look into it. The postmark on the envelope proves that they failed at this most simple of tasks. Although I am a forgiving person and I am happy our friend received his card, after all the other lies (the entire place is still under construction everything that could go wrong did of wrong because of their complete lack of preparedness). It took them three weeks to put a self-addressed stamped envelope into the mail, and it only happened after we inquired about this most simple task. If you do choose the Ventana, make sure you inquire if they have done anything to get rid of the biting flies that buzz around your face all night long. Do yourself a favor... Stay elsewhere.

Wonderful place to enjoy being close to nature---to enjoy the quiet and to enjoy the beauty of the area. The rates, however, are over the top. We are hoping to continue to enjoy our ocean view room but current rates make that questionable---Hopefully the new owners will keep this in mind.

It is a stunning property but when we arrived in Nov. 2017 it seemed like it still needed to work out some kinks. The spa is not up to par with what one would expect from this level of resorts. The services were fine but there is no locker room or big relaxation areas. It's very bare bones. Hopefully they plan to build it out more.

I was disappointed by the many gaps in service at what is billed as a luxury resort. Room requests were ignored as well as information obtained from a pre arrival questionnaire. The bathroom was not thoroughly cleaned. Amenities were skimpy (water, lotion, breakfast) and concierge advice misleading. The room was comfortable and quiet. The restaurant menu was limited.

I have stayed at the Ventana Inn many times and I find it a great way to get away from the rat race of daily life and just relax. The accommodations provide everything you need and there is a variety of services from the fantastic restaurant, to the spa, pool and meeting places. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I would not only recommend this for a place to get away but I will also be returning in the future as I get the opportunity.
