The location is great, and rooms are very nice. However, they had a huge event with people NOT staying overnight. Parking was messy - no space for people staying in the resort, and there was constant noise, music, entertainment, announcements over loudspeaker for the whole afternoon. Plus people not staying in the resort strolling around and staring at your balconies. Not really what you expect in place where tranquility is part of the value proposition. WIFI did not work properly, lack of bandwidth I guess with 100+ extra people on site and no controlled log-in. I approached front desk and was told this some sort of charity event and I think it is great to do those types of events but not at the expense of people paying 1000 $ per night.

Ventana was once a crown jewel in the heart of Big Sur. It was recently purchased and overhauled. I'm sad to say it has shed its Big Sur funk and gained Bay Area glam. Not exactly what I am looking for when I escape the Bay Area. Sad......

The grounds at Ventana are excellent and there are many great restaurants close to the resort. The upgrades that were done recently are well done and the rooms were nice and roomy. Food was excellent at the restaurant

This was something we really were looking forward to. First the bad things... the SPA is a complete rip off... and really not just saying that... we arrived 20 min early, and were taken to our massages 10. min late... ok... that is fine, but the room was NOT relaxing at all. They left the lights on the entire time, so when you turned around or opened your eyes in this "relaxing" massage you were pretty much blinded... my wife is pregnant and they gave her attitude about the pillow bc she didnt know how to use it. IN addition, and the worst part, it was cut 15 min short... guessing they didnt count the fact we went in 10. min late. And on top of all of that, we paid $600 for two , 1 hour massages, and they were not good at all. Not relaxing, cut short, and we have had better service at local chain massage places. Also, part of the spa was closed, and we didnt find that out UNTIL we arrived there. I wanted to get my wife a facial and some other treatments, they said nothing of this closing on the phone when making appointments etc etc... really upsetting. Then I paid over 2K for a suite here that night, and the rooms are PAPER thin from the people above you. All night we could hear them walking, showers running, even hear them talking and music. It was VERY VERY upsetting, we got ZERO sleep... so here I was thinking... we paid premium for a suite... and got no sleep and it was terrible. Having said all that, the rooms were beautiful and the scenery was great, the staff really is super nice. But as far as an "experience" of relaxation ... it failed completely. I would look elsewhere for that... It really is a cool place, but they failed at a lot they shouldn't have.

You get what you pay for, and the higher fees of the rooms were well worth it. The stunning landscape, immaculate grounds, delicious food and luxurious room made it the perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy life.
