Came here for the weekend with my girlfriend and was blown away! The service was incredibly personal and attentive. It was a great way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city for the weekend and relax.

Wonderful experience under the redwood trees. We loved sleeping in the woods and sitting by the fire at night. Coffee and croissants in the morning were delicious, too. Didn't try the s'mores, but it was a cute idea.

Glamping is truly a 5 star experience. It is incredibly luxurious with a twist of outdoorsiness. You get to experience the outdoors in a beautiful, scenic campground, without any stress involved in camping. The resort is beautiful, and the restaurant is truly a treat as well. Would highly recommend to any couple looking to get away for the weekend.

This is my second time staying at this magical hotel, and since the new ownership the service has become sub standard at best. We returned to Ventana 8 years after our first stay to celebrate my 40th birthday. Upon arrival the gates were locked. My wife got out the car and called the buzzer. She said her name 4 times and spelt it three times but still they seemed confused about who we were and that we had a reservation. By then two more cars were behind us and it was very embarrassing. One of the guests offered to use his pass to open the gate and get us moving. That was not the best welcome. We explained this to the receptionist who said she would let the manager know, but no apology. It was dismissed as not important as we were here now. The receptionist was so disinterested in us and half way through checking us in started talking to another member of staff and so she had no understanding it my actual 40th birthday, we had flown from London especially to stay there or that we had stayed at the hotel previously. More like a Three star motel than a Five Star hotel! The grounds, room, pool etc are second to none and it is a really special place. They have revamped things and overall I think for the best. Also the breakfast in the restaurant is gorgeous, as are the views when eating up there. Upon arrival to my room the hotel had put a half bottle of champagne in my room and said happy birthday on a card, which helped a little with the poor welcome. My wife has clearly called ahead! The wine and cheese pairing/ tasting was a disappointing experience. On both days no one explained anything about the wines and seemed to know nothing about them or how they complimented the cheese. Even a basic question on whether the Chardonnay was oaked or unoaked was met with a bemused look! We opted to play pool and just drink the free wine in the end. The worst part of the stay is that my Swedish friends had arranged for a card and bottle of local sparkling wine to be sent to my room on my birthday, and the hotel failed to do so. My friends called my wife the next day as they thought it was odd I had not thanked them so we’re concerned. My wife, who knew nothing about the surprise, explained it had not arrived. My Swedish friends called the hotel and they said they would deliver it straight away. Hours passed and still no wine. My wife has since told me she then had to go to reception and complain to the manager who wasn’t particularly apologetic and failed to see that the most upsetting thing was my friends had thought about me on my birthday and I did not know that. They had not texted me or called so I thought they had forgotten. If I had not stayed a second night I would never have known! Really poor service all round. The service at check out was mildly better but they were still disinterested and did not deliver 5 star service at all. It is with a heavy heart that I say as much as I love this magical location and the grounds, when paying that much money for a room to get such apathetic service I would not return again. It just shows that even a magical place can be destroyed by bad service.
