I was disappointed by the many gaps in service at what is billed as a luxury resort. Room requests were ignored as well as information obtained from a pre arrival questionnaire. The bathroom was not thoroughly cleaned. Amenities were skimpy (water, lotion, breakfast) and concierge advice misleading. The room was comfortable and quiet. The restaurant menu was limited.

This review is for the **Glamping at Ventana Big Sur** My husband and I stayed at the recently opened glamping sites of Ventana Big Sur for two nights mid week. The glamping sites were pretty empty with maybe only one or two others occupied over the course of our time there. After making the reservation we received a survey to note our preferences for the stay, which was a nice touch and made us look forward to the service we envisioned given the association with a lux resort, but we quickly realized that would be short lived. Upon arrival there are clear signs noting which way to go for the glamping sites, which are located at the back of the normal campground. Something which surprised us given that Ventana advertises the glamping alongside the resort as opposed to the campground. A staff member hoped in a little cart and showed us to the campsite, pointing out another site where coffee and pastries would be served in the morning (9am). She showed us around the site, which included a real fire pit with wood, a camp stove, a gas fire pit on the platform, instant hot water and potable water spouts and how to work the electric blanket on the bed. The tent was very nice and exactly as advertised, though fair warning its pretty cold without heat. It included a small basket with essentials such as a small cutting board, plates, utensils, s’more sticks and some s’more supplies. We had to ask where the bathrooms were so she pointed those out as well. After noting that 9am was a bit late for coffee for us she also kindly offered to bring us some as a bit earlier in the morning (though not the second). That was about the extent of the service we received unfortunately. We had even asked how to contact someone if we needed something and the staff member noted there was a card with her number inside. Though that card was never found, nor is there a phone or WIFI, and cell service is spotty at best. Overall we felt that the facilities were nice, the bathrooms were indeed brand new and nice, albeit very cold and not without a few bugs, and the tent was straight off pinterest, but for the price they are asking (which is even higher on the weekend) it seems a bit of a stretch. Having stayed in other places with premium service it was so abundantly clear that Ventana has not thought about this aspect as we did not receive even the basic level of service promised on the website, including turn down service. There was no map or any indication as to how to go to the restaurant or what the hours were. There were hot water bottles in the drawer but never noted to us and I imagine this was supposed to be used during turn down. There was a lamp to use to walk to the bathroom at night but ours didn’t work but there was no one to ask for a new one. When we went to site for coffee, there was no staff member there to answer any of our questions or give us tips on where to go. Even a basic brochure would have been helpful. Additionally in advance, it would have also been helpful to know exactly what would be provided at the site so we could have been better prepared. There were so many missed opportunities that could have made the stay so much better (including an umbrella, as schlepping to the bathroom in the pouring rain in the middle of the night is certainly no fun) and we had high hopes given all the positive press raving about welcome wine and cheese bags, turn down service, etc. none of which we received, plus there was no one there so it should have been easier to provide a more tailored experience. The glamping does offer resort access for an additional $200(two night minimum), however it states that is to access the pool, spa, fitness center, which we weren’t planning to use given the weather. Maybe with that you’d get better service, but for the base price of the glamping, you would expect a bit more than what we got. Overall, the tent is a fun experience and with the right service it has potential to be good, but until Ventana changes their approach to service, I would not recommend as a luxury experience, as it is still very much basic camping and while we do like to camp, we were looking for a bit more relaxation.

I have stayed at the Ventana Inn many times and I find it a great way to get away from the rat race of daily life and just relax. The accommodations provide everything you need and there is a variety of services from the fantastic restaurant, to the spa, pool and meeting places. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. I would not only recommend this for a place to get away but I will also be returning in the future as I get the opportunity.

We have stayed at Ventana at least 15 times and have never been disappointed! Will be back again! we love staying and going to all of the local restaurants while here. Hopefully next time we will be able to come straight up Highway 1!

Katie and I were delightfully surprised by this stay and we will be back. I wasn't exactly sure what to expect, but that being said, you met and exceeded expectations during our stay. We loved the Japanese baths and the general views from our room. My only thought is that the room service bar was a bit over priced. I understand the location dictates some type of mark-up, however, the various spirits seemed to be marked up 200% over regular value. Of course money is not main consideration during this type of getaway, however, that is my one small criticism ..
