Reviews for Montage Palmetto Bluff
This resort is stunning. It feels as if you've instantly gone back in time the minute you enter the grounds. The resort of beautiful and every detail is accounted for in the rooms. We stayed in one of the cottages which had a wonderful screened porch and comes with bikes to ride throughout the property. There are bikes trails throughout the property and several pools. You have great views of the water from several locations and can access kayaks and boats from a boat house. There are also stables and tennis courts. There is also a small village with some stores and restaurants and a market within an easy bike ride. The spa is by far the best I have visited. The therapists were excellent and the setting so relaxing. We are already planning our next trip back!
This was my second visit to Montage at Palmetto Bluff. I was there last August before the new Inn opened. The scenery and stffr are amazing. I love the quiet and refined atmosphere. I took my mother there to celebrate her 80th birthday and we had a wonderful time. The Grace was out of service, but we took a boat to Daufuskie Island and Captain Boo was greatly knowledgeable and an entertaining guide.
This place is great for a family vacation, and dog friendly (well, sometimes). The good: One of the most peaceful, serene locations in the southern US. We take two family vacations a year, this place (4th coming up) and Four Seasons Costa Rica. The kids/dogs love this place. Friendly staff (and international, which we like), and always willing to help. The not so good - it is Four Seasons prices (aside from plane fares), but Montage isn't the Four Seasons. When we were there we witnessed a beautiful wedding environment (but had problems to the point the groom had to take control) and saw two different people having issues getting their car from the valet - at $25 a day. Being that the lot is a 10 minute walk from the new main inn. On top of that there is a $35 resort fee....that is disclosed but in 2017 most resorts have dropped the nickel and diming. Otherwise, great place. 2 suggestions, lobby the Bluffton town to install a left turn signal at the entrance to the main road (our family took a half hour to get out of the resort due to traffic in morning rush hour), and make it more clear which places are dog-friendly. One night we were fine to have dinner with the dogs, the next night we were told no dogs. Also, website should be updated.

Strike 1 - We booked a cottage with a May river view only to find out the next day from our travel agent there was a mix up at the hotel and the cottages are sold out for the dates of our visit. So we settle for the Presidential Suite for the same price seemed like a good compromise. My family and I arrived at Palmetto Bluff expecting a wonderful vacation in the Presidential Suite in the Inn. Check in is at 3pm. At approximately 3:15pm I go to the front desk to inquire about the status of our room. The young lady working at the front desk informs me that the last group in the Presidential Suite had A LOT OF ALCOHOL and it's still in the room and it had to be removed prior to me checking in. She requested management assistance to expedite the process. She assured me we would be in our room soon. About 20 minutes later I received a text our room was finally available and "alcohol free". I go to the front desk get the keys and mention we will need a rollaway "not a problem let us know when you are ready for it " off to the 3rd floor room 1307 we go. Strike 2 and 3 We get to the room and the air conditioning is not working and once the bellman arrives with our bags and he gives us the nickel tour of the Presidential Suite. When he try's to show us how the steam shower works he can't get it to turn on. Same with the AC. I immediately report both of these problems to the front desk. They send up engineering to our room for the next few hours and they Gerry rig the system to maintain a comfortable temperature. Steam Shower was not addressed at this time. After dinner I called the front desk to request a rollaway bed for my daughter. I was told right away Mr. Krebs. Two hours later I text the front desk and phone housekeeping to find out about the rollaway. The response "unfortunately we are all sold out of rollaway"."I sincerely apologize ". My response couldn't you have told me that at check in or at the very least when I requested it again for the second time after dinner? Keep in mind this is the Presidential Suite and the room is incredible...........too bad the service so far is horrific. Strike 4 - There is a towel, washcloth and soap shortage at Montage Palmetto Bluff. I requested towels and washcloths and additional bars of soap from housekeeping on numerous occasions and they responded right away Mr Krebs ........I'm still waiting ? Bring your own soap and towels it will save you the hassle of looking for a washcloth and soap at 11pm at night for your non-steam shower. Strike 5 - We rent 3 bikes for the remainder of our stay. The tall bald gentleman working at the bike shed was great very professional. He gave me hope that maybe this place was gonna be great after all . We rode the bikes around and had a great time. We parked the bikes all together out front of the Inn at the bike rack and return the next morning for a family bike ride. Guess what one is missing? We go inside the Inn to the concierge she calls the bike shed......."they are swamped your going to have to go over there and get a replacement". So I go over get the replacement bike from the (at this point in the trip) only professional person with customer service in the whole resort. Strike 6- Towels at the pool? Buy some towels you do not have enough for the number of people you have staying at your resort. During our stay I was told on two occasions "you took my last 3 towels". Why do I need to know this? Why are you making it my problem? I could go on and on with an additional 20 customer service blunders that happened during our 5 day vacation................. but I want to end with 3 positive comments 1- The woman who works in the gift shop in the Inn is a model employee and should be commended for her great customer service. 2. The tall bald gentleman in the bike shed again a model employee and should be commended for his great customer service. 3. Michael a server at Jessamine's such a polite and professional young man. A model employee and should be commended for his great customer service. If you go to Montage at Palmetto Bluff you will LOVE the setting. Nature all around you. It is a place like no other. But, remember there is a trade off the service............Sucks
My wife, my son and I stayed at the one of the cottages with river view during the second half of March Everything was excellent. We were delighted by our choice. The layout design and décor were very good. The cottage was spacious, comfortable and full of wonderful details. Service was impeccable from the moment we arrived. Staff were friendly, well mannered, polite and helpful. Congrats on the training! Food at the restaurant was delicious. Although everything was extremely well taken care of, I felt it was a little overpriced. However, the overall experience was unforgettable and we hope to be able to come back.
