Seamless transfer from the airport to the resort by boat across the lagoon. Personally greeted on arrival at resort jetty, escorted to reception for registration. Ambassador Diamond Elite status recognised and thanked for our loyalty. Shown around the resort, we were informed that there was a supermarket and a couple of restaurants within a couple of minutes walk from the resort. Then we were escorted to our overwater villa. Some nice gifts awaited us in the Villa, 2 cool water bottles to use and keep during our stay, a resort tee shirt, and a sarong along with welcoming letter. Later in the evening, a complementary half bottle of champagne was delivered to our villa so we could celebrate our wedding anniversary. The passion shown from Madame Laurence Levy for her guests flows down to all the staff members. None could be faulted. We were personally found by Laurence and welcomed, and she enquired each day if everything was okay. Lovely Villa, clean, fully furnished, and being able to descend into the lagoon from the outside terrace. Snorkelling around the villas was fantastic with a vast variety of tropical fish to see. Our highlight was that no matter how often a Ray swam by, especially the leopard Ray, we would rush to see them. The hotel is very aware of the environment and has a programme of regeneration of coral. There is a 'Happy Hour' with a good choice of cocktails to choose from each evening in a pleasant setting overlooking looking the overwater villa and the lagoon. There are two restaurants to choose from with indoors and outside seating. Breakfast was a typical affair, both hot and cold, with eggs cooked to order. The hotel also offers free non motorised water sports and a tour desk on site. If asked to name a staff member who stood out, I couldn't as they all went above and beyond and are true ambassadors for the Intercontinental group. In all, a very enjoyable relaxing  stay at a first-class resort set in a beautiful picturesque setting on the island and would definitely recommend it.

Best Value

We stayed in an overwater bungalow for the experience. The hotel is very beautiful, but definitely dated. It’s small compared to the St. Regis, and was very serene and quiet. We did have a few hiccups, but the staff was absolutely wonderful. They are very friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. There are paddle boards, kayaks, and snorkel gear included in your stay. The room was spacious enough for 2-3 people comfortably. I think 4 would be a little too cozy, but there is plenty of deck space, and a large enough bathroom. During our stay, we saw 2 snorkelers swim under our bungalow, probably because our room had the best reef underneath it (42). The hotel is conveniently located, very close to a little grocery store, the amazing Lucky House restaurant, and Marama Tattoo. It’s about a 15 minute drive to the main town. The breakfast buffet had options and was very good. I read a review that said this was more a 3-star hotel, and I was hoping I would disagree. In terms of the grounds, facilities, and amenities, 3 stars is accurate. A facelift is necessary and they were doing renovations while we were there, although we could not hear the work. In terms of staff, location, character, and overall value: 4.5-5 stars. We would definitely consider staying here again.

Paradise

We traveled to French Polynesian in Nov with 2 other couples. We booked a 3 island package through Costco Travel and stayed in Tahiti, Moorea and Bora Bora. We elected to stay on the mainland in Bora Bora vs a motu so selected the Le Moana Resort on Bora Bora due to its location. We were very pleased with our stay. All 3 couples stayed in overwater bungalows which were wonderful. Our bungalows were large, well appointed and very comfortable. Le Moana is a smaller, older resort but it is very well maintained with beautiful manicured grounds. We enjoyed the daily breakfast which was included with our room, and also enjoyed the grill area for lunch and happy hour snacks. We elected to eat dinners outside the resort at local restaurants. Restaurants will pick you up and return you to the resort afterwards. Couple restaurants within walking distance of resort. There’s also a small grocery store within walking distance where you can pick up snacks and beverages to keep in your room. Beautiful Matira Beach is literally just steps away from the resort directly next door. Beautiful sunsets! We all thoroughly our stay at the Le Moana and would highly recommend this resort to friends and family, Costco Travel did excellent job booking all our transfers and airfares.

Adjust Expectations and Enjoy Stay

As long as you go in with expectations of a 3-star hotel it will be a great stay. We stayed here 2 nights recently and it was fine. We booked the water shuttle from the airport which is fantastic. Picks you right up at the airport and drops you off at the hotel. It does stop first at the 5-star IHG - Thalasso where the guests there were greeted with a conch type welcome, not so much at the Le Moana. We were greeted at the dock and given a walkthrough of the resort. The resort restaurant/service area is fairly small, so the walkthrough was quick. We were shown to our over water bungalow which was nice. It felt a bit dated, but with all the construction work going on I assume they are doing some upgrades. The bed was comfortable, and the deck area was large. Since the sun sets over the hotel, there was plenty of shade on the deck to sit and read a book looking at the beautiful water. We did not know there would be construction going on during our stay which was a bit disappointing. We were given no notice of the work. The breakfasts were good with plenty of offerings. Based on our first day of lunch we opted to venture out each night for dinner. The menu was a bit strange to us. There was a decent restaurant within walking distance, and we took a taxi to dinner the other night that the restaurant sent to the hotel to pick us up. That was nice. There was a store not too far from the hotel that we used to grab snacks, waters and some beers for the room as there is no store on premise. The gift shop does not sell any food items. The location of the hotel is good. Being on the mainland Bora Bora gave us plenty of options to wander and explore easily. We rented some bikes and toured around one afternoon. I did wish there was a fitness center for a quick morning workout. One thing that was a bit curious was how often we were told to keep an eye on our valuables. They even showed us the board to use to ensure the slider could not be opened from the outside. We experienced no issues and did not feel threatened or unsafe at all. The staff was friendly, and the manager did provide a small credit for the constructions noise. This was a fine stay. However, when coming back we most likely will look for a nicer property.

Dream come true!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 months ago

After a long 25 hours travelling the welcome off the plane was fab! I was provided with a bottle of water and hopped on the boat. A quick breathtaking 30 minutes later we pulled up and welcomed by a man singing. Taken to the bar for a welcome drink and check in then shown round the resort. Initially I had booked a beach villa, though I was upgraded to a water villa with lagoon view. This was a huge surprise I was not expecting in the slightest, and extremely grateful for! The villa was out of this world! Clean, well maintained and comfortable. The shower on the deck was amazing too! Food was good, not too much variety but enough so it wasn’t too overwhelming. Not much of vegetarian or vegan options though. On my actual birthday all the staff were aware and made a huge fuss which was lovely. The evening of my birthday I was seated at the front of the restaurant to view the local dancers, who sang happy birthday to me and invited me up to take part. And a birthday cake brought out to me. Just amazing! I can’t really comment on the beach as I did not go on it, it’s not huge. There are SUPs and canoes for use when you please. I didn’t use the pool either, though it seemed ok. Lots of kids running riot around it so I stayed away, though in all honesty the water was so amazing I was more than happy to stay at my over water villa and go InThe sea. Villas 1-11 face the shore, 12-35 face out to the lagoon and are amazing! From 35 to 42 semi face the shore/lagoon. Opposite the reception is a public beach, you can watch the sunset from here. It’s quite small but still lovely. It’s safe to walk around outside of the hotel. I hired a bike through the concierge. And ride to the main town, it was very safe and a beautiful flat ride. I’d suggest walking the short distance to avis to hire as it’s cheaper direct. The hotel booked through Avis for you. There’s a ‘free’ boat to thalasso, this is a lovely big resort but a lot busier. Beautiful views of the mountain but lads breeze meaning it was nearly unbearable with the heat. The spa here was ok, needs some maintenance. I booked an 80 min massage and it was actually only 55 minutes. Very pricy for what you actually get. I cannot express how amazing this hotel is and the amazing staff who make it. The cooks, front of house staff, concierge, restaurant, cleaners just every single one of them was absolutely amazing! And the complimentary water bottle I was given, I didn’t use it and packed it, though somehow it was damaged yet the staff at the hotel have arranged for a new one to be sent to my next IHG hotel in Tahiti for me to replace it. To me that is way above and beyond any thing I have experienced. I can’t express how much this place was like heaven and just how amazing it really was! I will be saving hard to come back!!!!! The memories made will stay with me forever and I’ll be recommending this hotel to everyone!
