March in Boston Made Special

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Where do I begin? We were greeted with friendly voices and smiles. Seriously! That simple act of customer service is lacking across the country yet was evident from the moment we arrived. We arrived a bit early expecting to request a luggage hold and to be assigned a room at standard check in time. Because we booked through Expedia, I was afraid we would be relegated to the least desirable standard room available. Instead, this was a first for us on any trip, we were upgraded to a suite with a street view and were promptly checked in. Hellloooo, Boston! Had the customer stopped there, I would have been satisfied. No, it continued over our 3 night stay. We were pleasantly greeted each time we departed or arrived, our room was tidied daily with fresh linens provided, and we did not experience excessive noise. I really don't think our stay could have been better. We did not experience the hotel's breakfast or restaurant service, so I cannot provide information regarding the food. However, we found fresh bottled water and delicious cookies waiting on our coffee table when returning to our room on the first evening. It was a very sweet touch. This is a boutique hotel experience that fits with my general travel personality. Please don't expect austere minimalist decor, a free breakfast buffet, designer label bedding, or perfunctory service. You can get that at any number of hotels around Boston and elsewhere in the country. Is the decor a little tired or dated? Yes, perhaps so, but the bed was clean and comfortable, the bathroom was marble, the water pressure was fabulous, and the building is historic. Since it was built in the 1920s, it does not fit the standard minimalist concept favored in the big box hotel world. Praise the Lord for that! It most definitely met our needs. On a side note, it was pouring rain on the last day of our stay and the hotel kindly supplied us with a generous umbrella to use while out and about. To the staff of The Eliot, you are to be commended for the jobs each of you do. Yes, customer service, a smile, the willingness to attend to your guests, and your attitude make a difference. You are the face of the hotel and of Boston. What a welcome to Boston!

Highly recommend!!

Wonderful hotel. We were there for a family event, and they took really good care of us. Even needed some special attention when one of our members was a little ill, and the hotel went out of their way to make sure they were taken care of. Kind of a bummer they don’t have a gym. The closest one is a 15 minute walk but other than that spectacular hotel wonderful people and fantastic service. Highly recommend.

Always an excellent stay!

Always an amazing stay. Staff are friendly, go out of their way to provide help from delivering Door Dash to your room to opening doors at every entry. We always feel welcome and know we can ask for recommendations to local venues and get helpful, courteous service.

Lovely place!

My husband and I recently traveled from California to Boston (where we actually met and were married decades ago) so that he could lead a seminar at MIT. We arrived at the Eliot Hotel on a rainy March evening and were told we'd been upgraded to a suite! It was a corner room on the top floor, with a living room, separate bar/coffee area with a sink and small fridge, a queen bedroom, and a nice-sized bathroom with a separate closet/vanity area. Everything about the room was so lovely and comfortable. Really, my only complaint (and this is one that they really can't help because it's an old building) was the placement of the toilet--too close to the wall and sink to be comfortable. The shower had good water pressure (took a while to get hot, but it always did) and the towels were very thick and fluffy. There was everything you could need supplied (hair dryer, robes, spa-quality toiletries, etc.) It would be nice to have a place to hang a hand towel, but that seems to be an issue at MANY hotels. The bed was very comfortable and it was easy to keep the room temperature just where we wanted it (thermostat-controlled). We had daily housekeeping service (a rarity these days) and cookies and water on arrival. The staff were all very warm and welcoming--we were always greeted by a doorman and someone at the desk as we came and went. There was often even a bellman inside to push the elevator button for us. We felt truly pampered! We only had the breakfast one morning (since it isn't free) and it was delicious. There was a coffee maker and hot water pot in our room, which was always kept replenished. My husband had to ask for teabags the first day, but after that, those were replenished daily too. Everything is walkable and convenient from the hotel, with bus stops and T stations all close by. I can't think of a bad thing to say about this lovely little hotel, and it was such a perfect place for us to remember our past years in Boston. I would highly recommend it if you are staying in the Back Bay area of his lively city.
