Good but with some drawbacks.

I am here for a national convention. I upgraded to the studio suite - nice size room, but there is no sofa, only a single chair, so if you were with someone there would be no place to sit and watch TV. The bed is extremely comfortable. There is no place to put a room service tray except the desk, which I was using for work and had to clear off. The restaurant is extremely pricy - it would be great if they had more bistro style offerings - $19 for clam chowder with very few clams? Housekeeping staff is amazing - the room was spotless, and when I messed up the coffee maker they sent someone to show me how to do it! Room 260 was a bit shabby - there was an uncovered wire hanging from what I was told was the doorbell unit with no cover. The tile in the shower was abysmal - I haven't taken a shower yet but it is really dated. Plenty of towels and well lit. Again, the staff is great and the convention catering was quite tasty and much better than the usual rubber chicken fare. I was surprised that two of the courses for our luncheon were loaded with nuts, and my non-nut options were significantly less nice than the nut options (over-frozen sorbet instead of Boston cream pie).

Grand Hotel Energy, College Dorm Policies

Hotel: basic rooms e.g. queen are small. We stayed Stayed at the Fairmont Copley Plaza for New Year’s. Beautiful, historic hotel, great location, and Oak Bar food was actually very good. So far, so classy. Now for the “welcome to Boston, kid” parts. Room: we had a basic queen and, let’s just say, if you and your suitcase are not on speaking terms, you will be after this stay. Cozy in the “don’t both open your bags at the same time” sense. First surprise at check-in: I had to sign a statement saying no outside alcohol allowed in the room. On New Year’s Eve. Really? So I can’t toast midnight with my wife’s favorite champagne unless I buy it from the bar? Bold move, Fairmont. Very bold. Second surprise: hotel doors locked at 6:30 pm and you can only get in by showing room key. I get security, but it felt less “grand hotel” and more “college dorm with better chandeliers.” Oak Bar: food was excellent and service was fast, but our waitress had strong “I should be home watching the ball drop” energy. Totally human, but not exactly warm and fuzzy hospitality vibes. Valet: when we arrived, we were told to call 5 to 10 minutes before leaving and they’d have the car ready. We did. Waited 15 minutes. Nothing. Only after checking with the front desk did the car magically appear about 5 minutes later. Not the end of the world, but not exactly smooth either. Bottom line: gorgeous building, great location, solid food. But between the tiny room, champagne crackdown, locked doors, and slow valet, the whole experience felt more strict than festive for a New Year’s stay. If you want history and convenience, it delivers. If you want to actually celebrate, maybe pack a smaller suitcase and lower expectations.

Inhospitable and rude

My family and I are paying for a room here, but I had my key card checked two times in a row to prove that I'm staying at this hotel. After I got my card checked for the first time, my mom and I walked further into the lobby and the second man said "What can I do for you guys." Which implies that we aren't staying here. It felt like an insult. I said we were going to our room and he made me show my key card for the second time. I feel like I've been treated like I don't belong in this hotel and have felt unwelcome. We aren't paying to be treated like we don't belong here, it's ridiculous

Our stay at the Fairmont Copley Plaza was perfect. The room was lovely and so very quiet, and the bed was really comfortable. Everyone who works at the hotel were very helpful and personable. We will definitely return.
