New Yorkers flock to the Hamptons, 100 miles east of Manhattan, to stroll by the shore, score antiques and soak up the cosmopolitan small-town atmosphere. The most distinguished among them settle at Topping Rose House in Bridgehampton, the area’s first full-service luxury hotel. Guestrooms occupy floors of a history-rich house – it belonged to community stalwart Judge Abraham Topping Rose at the turn of the 20th century – or in newly constructed cottages on the property. Spa services are available, and an eclectic collection of art comes courtesy of New York’s Winston Wächter Fine Art.

If you are visiting the Hamptons there is no other place to consider than Topping Rise House. The attention they showed to my family was incredible and really felt genuine. The rooms are clean and spacious and the restaurant has great breakfast and a great energy in the evening. Love coming back here each year!

Five key points: 1. We thought we bought an overnight package that included dinner and breakfast. We learned upon arrival that since we stayed on a midweek night, there was no breakfast service for the following morning. Moreover, there was no morning coffee/tea service available in the lobby. There are really very few other options for breakfast in the immediate area. We were told we could drive 10 miles to Sag Harbor for a decent breakfast! 2. The water pressure in the room (#3) was virtually non-existent. The main faucet in the bathroom yielded only a trickle of water. We dared not even try the shower. 3. Being on the second floor of the main house above the bar and the restaurant, the room was very noisy (suffused with the constant drumbeat of music emanating for the lower floor). 4. The overall external sound proofing in the room was poor, as we heard the passing car/truck traffic on the nearby roads continuously throughout the night. 5. The Jean-Georges restaurant served decent food but the music permeating the dining room was little more than a constant drumbeat, making the overall dining experience less than relaxing. While we had high hopes for a pleasant evening experience at a beautiful inn, we were quite disappointed in the end.

While very satisfied with most aspects of the Topping Rose please be aware that if you need a daily workout their fitness center is insufficient for most people. Very limited aerobic machines, only one combination weight machine. No little extras like therabands, bosu ball, stretching apparatus (if one wants to stretch on a floor mat you better hope that no more than 2 other people are the room!).

The Front Desk was very welcoming. The service staff prompt with requests. Thoroughly enjoyed the Restaurant both for breakfast and dinner. The accommodations were very comfortable and clean. Loved the central location to the other Hampton Villages and the ability to walk into Bridgehampton.

The room was great. We stayed with our dog and had a little yard off the room which was so convenient. The bathroom was very nice! The only reason I didn't five a 5 for value was that it was a little expensive for off season. Other than that it was a great stay.
