The McCarren swimming pool is the best pool in New York. It has an open space, cool fresh water, super comfortable beds, fun crowd, incredibly nice staff. Eric, who is the owner, controls everything and makes sure that everything is perfect. It has an Ibiza flavor in a very urban environment. I am so happy I found it - I have tried so many pools in Manhattan and I have always been disappointed. It is a real oasis. Flaminia Lubin

We booked a stay after we stayed in the glossier and newer William Vale down the block which i mentioned in a previous review. Upon check-in, the front desk acknowledged that we were celebrating our anniversary and upgraded us to a larger king size bed/room and also provided a complimentary bottle of wine to celebrate. Every single need we had the hotel was more then willing to assist especially one of the lobby workers (Martin who was exceptional). The poolside area was small but appeared to have a lot more character than the larger properties in the area. The rooftop bar area seemed to be bow for throwing great parties during the evening but unfortunately on the night we stayed, there were thunderstorms which put a damper on things. This property definitely had more personality and charm than other hotels in the area and we will most certainly return in the future.

Had a wonderful overnight stay at the McCarren; rooftop bar was great and not at all crowded. There was a music festival going on in the park across the street, which made the afternoon pretty noisy. Staff was extremely pleasant.

Before I began this review it should be noted that this review is for the rooftop area only. I have not the opportunity to stay at this hotel yet, but when I do I will make sure to update this review. An associate of a friend invited me and my friend to a party that was taking place at the McCarren on Saturday, June 3rd. We were looking forward to attending this event as it had been a while since we both had attended a rooftop party at the McCarren. We arrived relatively early as we had another engagement, so we wanted to get in as much time as possible. When we arrived it was only one bartender on hand, and four patrons at the bar. Now stop and think about what I just typed, one bartender and four patrons, not one bartender and twenty patrons, but one bartender and four patrons. So my friend and I gloss over the menu and decided on what we would order, two drinks and some guacamole and chips. I expected to receive the order in about 25 minutes or less however that was not the case. It was almost an hour before we received our drinks, needless to say, we were kind of over our whole experience at this point because the bartender was severely behind and the bar had become more packed. HOWEVER, this is where the lovely Winter came in to save us on a pretty summer day. Winter was so attentive and reassuring and very apologetic for the lack of service that was going on, she came and took our food and drink orders again and assured us that our drinks and food would be out shortly. She was very apologetic about the whole ordeal, she was so professional throughout the whole ordeal. There were some people who were visibly upset, yet Winter kept her composure and tried her absolute best to tend to everyone's needs. She was checking in with people offering them whatever she could. All in all, she was pretty amazing, as I was leaving I found it out that it was her first day upstairs. And honestly, I would not have believed it until someone told me because she acted like such a veteran. So once again Winter, Thank you so much for your hard work and patience. With your attitude and smile, I know that you will go far in life. So if you ever visit the McCarren make sure to ask for WINTER!!
