Reviews for St. George Residence
Historic building in a great location on the Buda side. Many fine public room features, including a cannon ball wedged in a wall, but as a hotel needs refreshing. Room/suite enormous but huge bathroom and no shower. Camp beds. Breakfast very poor with nothing suitable for the careful eater.

We had our travel agent book a room for us in Budapest as we unexpectedly had to return home after completing the river cruise portion of our vacation. What a lovely choice she made. This is a 700+ year old building that has been restored but retained it's old world charm of marble floors in the hall and stairway (no elevator) spacious rooms with high ceilings, Chippendale (?) furniture. The daytime concierge/reception was an amazing lady that went above and beyond for us. The day before we were to check in our cruise tour took us up to the castle district in Buda and we were able to check out the hotel. We asked how we could organize for transportation to the airport an she she advised she could arrange that for us with a shuttle service they use. When we checked in the next morning she greeted us by name and the transportation was all arranged. I had technical difficulties with getting our boarding passes done on-line and went downstairs to see if she could assist. Even when I was ready to give up she said no I think we can still figure this out and she did. We felt that staying at this hotel was a wonderful experience that you don't get with our modern ones. I was so taken with it architecturally that I did a walking video through the halls and our room to capture it. There is also a lovely courtyard that in the summer would be a lovely place sit and enjoy a drink and relax.

The hotel is authentic with a lot of charm, calm, very nice and well situated in Buda. Rooms are big, comfortable and very well decorated. Unfortunately services are not in accordance with a 5 stars hotel. Bathroom equipment is poor and not renewed daily, breakfast is very limited without any person to take care of the client. The only person, at the reception, is professional but not friendly, without any interest in the guest stay in Budapest.

Not to offen you can sleep in a 750 years old building, and this is one. Just to think what this walls witnessed throughout the seven plus century, and looking out the same windows seeing history passing by, or walking on the same 100's years old staircases not to many hotel can claim this. Our room had a very pleasant feeling, anytime we walked back to the room, felt like we are going home. Well decorated, large rooms with street view. The place felt really unique just walking around the old cobblestone streets around midnight (major jet leg) made it even more special. Here is some pictures made in this area. Can't wait to go back again.

It was our first visit to Budapest and we chose this ‘all suite’ hotel. We went for the romantic package that includes sparkling wine and chocolates in the room upon arrival and a welcome drink, a candle light dinner in their restaurant ( water and wine too ), breakfast buffet, and a discount on other meals you might have during your stay. Our suite ( the hotel has only suites ) had almost the size of a tennis court and was beautifully decorated with great taste and elegance. It is the oldest hotel in town and they preserved the grandeur of the past. Our candle light dinner was exquisite and the service was exemplary. The only thing we would like to see different is the coffee at the breakfast buffet. The coffee of the coffee machine doesn’t meet the high level of standard you receive at this superb place. They truly deserve the traveler’s choice award of 2017. We will come back. Kristine
