If you want to feel coddled and living in a European style first class hotel, then do stasy here. In addition to the excellent hostelry and professional help, you have a choice of restaurants, and the very best sunday brunch in town. Sunday can be alittle loud, though, unless you ask for a table at he winter garden, which has a gtlass ceiling and is very luminous and quaint. As an alternative, on Saturdays a buffet lunch is served there which closely approximates the Sunday brunch and much quieter. Both are worth the experience.

The Alvear Palace Hotel certainly was located in an excellent area of Buenos Aires. It is in an area where there are parks, wide avenues, and luxurious architecture. There are also some great restaurants, cafes, antique shops and boutiques. Some of the main museums and cultural centres too are close by.

Beautiful classic hotel with great service. Terrific breakfast included. Nicely situated for touring and shopping. Great bar, but the cigar room unfortunately no longer exists. Well equiped work-out room.

2nd stay, 1st time was perfect, this time, however... Check-in - made my reservation through American Express Fine Hotels. Well, the gentleman could not (or did not want to) find my late check-out, never mentioned the possibility of an upgrade and I had to 'remember' him about the USD 100 credit on food and beverages. Room was ok - nothing more than expected, but, surprise, butler service was gone. Only once there was a person at butler's desk. However, the best part was when I was leaving the hotel for a walk, carrying my camera and a member of the staff approached me asking for ID and to prove that I was a guest. WHAT? He said I was spotted by hotel cameras taking pictures. WHAT? I challenged him to look at my camera and find a single shot and, if I was taking pictures, what is the damn problem? I asked him to call his manager and a guy pretending not to speak English came (and I could understand their chat in Spanish). Sorry, all good, sorry. Did you receive a call from general manager apologizing? Me neither. Check-out and obviously the bill was wrong, USD 100 credit not there, extras charged and removed, "honest mistakes". Last but not least, they obviously did not give me the Fine Hotels evaluation form, but I called American Express travel services to complain. Alvear is a trademark and a gorgeous hotel, but there are other places in Buenos Aires.

Had to spend an extra night in Buenos Aires as my flight was cancelled. I was not too keen to be driven back from the airport to downtown BA but at least Lufthansa got me a nice place, this one. A classic hotel, large mirrored lobby, splendid belle epoque architecture. Staff super competent, rooms huge with modern baths and everything one could possible want. Great breakfast buffet, too. There is a nice roof bar as well, as there were only very few people there, the bar staff kindly let me smoke my cigar in a corner.
