Alvear Palace Hotel We just checked out of the the Alvear Palace after a lovely 3 night stay. I debated endlessly between the Alvear Palace and the Park Hyatt Palace Duchau next door. I am very happy with our choice to stay at the Alvear, and after touring the Park Hyatt and having a drink there - I would again stay at the Alvear. What I liked- The hotel is beautifully maintained. Some historic properties can be a bit tired. The Alvear is fresh and updated - but still in a traditional style. Gracious wide hallways, beautiful moldings, you would not mistake this for a cookie cutter chain hotel. ( The Park Hyatt has pretty outdoor grounds and facade, but the dining room, bars etc could be in any faceless hotel in any city. We have all stayed in them) Our room - 201- was a lovely spacious 1 bedroom suite. A large double sink marble bathroom With separate shower and tub . Excellent water pressure. Hermes toiletries. Good quality towels. The bed was very comfortable with good quality linens. Room was very quiet. We never saw a person on our floor - never saw housekeeping but they did an impeccable job. Never saw a housekeeping cart in the hallway which was nice. Never saw room service trays sitting on the floor outside a room. It may be odd for me to mention either thing but it grosses me out to leave my room at a hotel and walk past a tray full of dirty dishes. Great location in a high end, safe, neighborhood, Nice roof deck with outdoor lounge chairs and small soaking pool. Larger indoor pool. I wouldn't go to this hotel for the pool- but it is a nice amenity at the end of the day to get wet and read a book for a little while. What was odd- A darling young lady came to our door shortly after we arrived and introduced herself as our butler. She offered to unpack, get things pressed etc. We asked her for a plug converter for our phone which she promptly got and organized for us while we were out. The thing that is strange is I never saw her again. The guy at the pool area who is in charge of handing out towels is not very friendly. I think maybe his job is to keep interlopers out...but every day at 4 pm we came up to sit by pool. He asked our room number everyday like he had never seen us before. Maybe switch it up by saying - good afternoon - can you remind me what your room number is. Whatever. He doesn't offer you a towel so you walk down a flight of stairs to find that he is keeper of the towels..so you have to march back up the stairs. I am not sure if if could assist you in getting a drink or anything. He doesn't offer anything.

This hotel has an old style elegance with impeccable staff service. We were upgraded to a junior suite and we enjoyed every moment we were there. The food was excellent, and very fresh. This held true for breakfast, dinner and room service. Perhaps the only disappointment was high tea which lacked a little in elegance of presentation. A great location with a variety of good eating places nearly

Alvear Palace is a high rated hotel and rightly so. Rooms are spacious, bed is good, bathroom has everything needed...it is just as expected from this level. Then add to this great service, fantastic breakfast, good gym, nice roof top bar and great location you get a truly great place to stay in Buenos Aires. Many nice neighbourhoods are also within a short taxi ride from the hotel.

Beautifully appointed hotel with charming and helpful staff. Opulent public rooms- particularly the Orangery where we had breakfast and enjoyed a fabulous ‘champagne’ afternoon tea. Our Palace Premier room was very comfortable, reasonably quiet with a lovely marbled bathroom ( with bath and large shower cubicle). Efficient and quiet aircon too- the max. temperature was 35c when we were there.
