We don't normally care for large hotels, but the Alvear Palace is an exception. Everything is flawless, in my opinion. The room was perfect and Hermès toiletries are always appreciated. We were on the 9th floor with a nice downtown view. The bathroom was roomy and the TV over the bathtub was a great addition. Breakfast included a number of delicious choices. We did have dinner in the bar one night because we did not feel like venturing out. The food was so-so but most bar menus are that way. The cold buffet lunch was perfection - many things to choose from but the shrimp were exceptional as were the sauteed mushrooms and grilled vegetables. Restaurant staff were great. The lobby staff was excellent. Check-in went quickly as did check-out. The concierge staff, with the exception of one surly gentleman, was top notch. Esperanza was exceptionally helpful and speaks English beautifully. I would love to return to this hotel!

I was with a group. We were promised rooms at 2:00 PM. Our group arrived about 5:00 and were told rooms were not ready. At 7:00 some rooms were ready and given out. At 10:00 the leader had found us rooms at the Four Seasons and we were getting ready to go when suddenly rooms were found! We were given a two bedroom suite but we had not slept the previous night because of our flight from the US so didn't really care where we slept. In all this mess the hotel kept our passports which we didn't immediately realize. All in all, it was a poor way to do business. They cannot stay in business this way so we must have been an exception. Lying to us and saying the rooms would be ready soon was not appreciated!

The stories of BsAs always include stories of dirt, noise and sidewalks falling apart. I know many people who have been here since I'm a tango dancer. I chose to stay here because it's a great location and I like wonderful hotels. But I set my expectations of the trip, city and hotel low. The Alvear is of course glamorous and lovely. But the staff here are incredibly kind and helpful. I'm not sure I can say enough about the service and quality. I stayed for 4 nights and then changed to a nice hotel in Palermo. After one night, I returned to the Alvear. The difference was unbelievable. Nice room at the other place, but the sheets, the pillows, towels, noise and location were so much less that I actually packed up and returned for the last night. I am sitting in the hotel room now as I write this. They welcomed me back and gave me a large suite and a 6 PM checkout since I have a late flight home. I have been continuously happy here, and after a full day and night out in the city, I feel something special in the joy of returning to the Alvear. The lobby bar knows exactly how I like my espresso in the morning and start making it they see me enter. The concierge always have good advice and are tolerant of my many questions. I understand people do not expect to travel and spend much time in a hotel. Typically, I actually do, but on this trip, I have not. But returning here at 4 am, or at noon, has been so worth the price of admission. I will not stay anywhere else in Buenos Aires.

Gorgeous hotel with all the amenities. Beautiful suite luxuriously decorated. Spacious, lotsa marble, great decor. Beautiful breakfast can be had in the dining room or in the glass atrium. Terrific concierge that will arrange all. In the center of great shopping.

Walking into this hotel is like walking back in time old fashioned and full of elegance. You get an impression of opulence. Check in was easy and although our room wasn't ready and at 10.30 we didn't expect them to be. Concierge took our cases and directed us via the local map that they gave us to the local shops for some retail therapy that some of our group had missed for the last week or two. Our room was a suite with a small sitting room, a small alcove with a desk and connections leading into a huge bedroom with a walk in cupboard and a on suite bathroom with a double sink, bath and large shower with a third television, as if we would have time to watch three televisions! The bed was huge and extremely comfortable and as my head hit the pillow it seemed the morning alarm was ringing. After lunch we made use of the sun deck on the top floor with wonderful views of Buenos Aires and a sun trap on two floors with a small splash pool inside along with a small bar. In the evening we went back to the bar for an evening drink of cocktails and a enjoyable evening was had by everyone. Breakfast was served in two rooms downstairs off the foyer and very elegant rooms they are, service was good if not a little slow and the buffet was full of naughty tempting goodies with plenty of choice. The question I always ask is would I go back? Well should I ever be back in wonderful Buenos Aires without hesitation is the answer, can't wait
