Extremely disappointing experience at Alvear Palace Hotel Buenos Aires, especially considering the premium pricing and reputation of the property. My wife and I arrived after a 14-hour international flight completely exhausted. Instead of being welcomed warmly, we were indirectly pressured into paying an additional USD 150 for an upgrade in order to receive our room immediately. When we declined, we were told to wait until the standard check-in time at 3 PM. After spending the day outside and returning extremely tired, we finally went to sleep — only to receive a call from reception at 2:44 AM saying someone was waiting for us downstairs. This unnecessary disturbance in the middle of the night was unacceptable and extremely unprofessional. The following morning, I requested an explanation from reception, but no one could provide one. I also asked to speak with a senior manager or higher authority, which the hotel staff refused. Things became worse before our departure. Since we had an early morning flight, we requested a takeaway breakfast. At no point did the reception team inform us that certain items would be chargeable. Later, we received a message saying the hotel was “doing us a favour” by providing basic items like sandwiches and yogurt. When my wife called reception for clarification, the staff member spoke extremely rudely and used unacceptable language, saying: “If you don’t want the favour, pay for it or leave it.” For a hotel that markets itself as luxury hospitality, the attitude, arrogance, and lack of warmth from the staff were shocking. The property may look beautiful, but service is what defines a luxury hotel — and unfortunately this hotel failed badly in that department. There are far better luxury hotels in Buenos Aires where guests are treated with professionalism and respect. I would strongly advise travellers to think twice before spending a large amount of money here.

We were here for our night before embarking on the Seabourn Venture. The room was very nicely decorated in a modern way. Location was convenient for visiting the nearby park with its huge, old tree and looking at grand old mansions. Personnel were friendly and helpful. It felt special staying there because it has a long history. I would stay there again without hesitation.

Harkens back to the old Oak Room at the Plaza Hotel. This type of elegance is rare in the modern world of hotel design today. Comfort was 10/10. Spa was superb!
