The reviews by many others highlighting this hotel were on spot. We stayed one night at the Four Seasons and nights at the Alvear Palace Hotel. Both great places, but Alvear Palace wins because the location is better, the place is old style opulence that somehow fits a stay in BA ‘s Recoleta area. We had a suite that was gracious, well appointed and luxurious. We had a butler appointed to us, who was prompt with some small requests from me. The high tea there is sumptuous, their breakfasts good and not fussy. Concierge service needs improvement. I sent them a query, 3 days before we got there, and got no response. While Esperanza was delightful, her partner was impatient and he appeared to view us as an imposition. This is the only reason I have given them a “4”. Do visit the store opposite the hotel: called Lopez Taibo. Great shoes for men and leather bags. Volta ice cream down the road, and the chocolate store from Patagonia,” Mamuschka”in the Recoleta Mall, also walking distance. After visiting Palermo, which we enjoyed, we were glad we picked the Recoleta area to stay in.

It is a beautiful property. But the service is not the same. Especially the reception is not friendly, even rude. It is a pitty to have such a staff at such an hotel. I guess the GM is an arrogant lady by not seeing me when I wanted to express my feelings

I have to be honest: I was nervous from reading prior reviews that the Alvear Palace wasn't going to be up to snuff. Several mentioned that it seemed tired and did not live up to five star standards any longer. Thankfully for us we had a fabulous experience. It is indeed an old 'Grande Dame' of an establishment. It is quite formal in presentation and the service is appropriately subdued while still being totally accommodating. We were upgraded to one of the deluxe suites on the top floor (we'd booked a junior suite) and it was fabulous. Very generous in size and with lovely contemporary touches like motorized blackout shades, an optional floor light near the bathroom for easier nighttime trips, and three televisions - one of which is arranged at the foot of the bathtub - which my children loved. I also appreciated that there were two separate air conditioning zones for the living room (where my children slept on the pullout sofa) and the master bedroom. We ate at the hotel three times during our stay and the food was good. The location is terrific. We felt very safe venturing out to dinner with our young children after dark, The hotel arranged a great driver to take us to and from a Boca game. We were quite nervous to go to what we've been told is a dangerous area of town and we were totally at ease with the driver and his knowledge of the neighborhood. It was also our great fortune to walk through the lobby just as the President of Spain arrived! Overall, it was quiet and elegant and sophisticated and we were so sad to leave. We are returning to BA in a few days and I now regret booking a different property for this leg of our trip. Alvear has set the bar high!

This hotel is so luxurious and amazing. Everything about it, from the service, the food, the rooms.. absolutely spectacular! Great views of Buenos Aires on the rooftop. Loved the hotel bar on the main level. Also loved the spiral staircase!! Great location, a very short walk to the famous Recoleta Cemetery. I was so sad to leave this place. Highly recommend, and worth it for the price!

The best room in the best hotel in Buenos Aires. This is a grand, elegant hotel from the British colonial era. Huge and beautiful room. Very comfortable. Best location. Concierge helped us with last minute guides and dining. Restaurant and bar are excellent. Great experience in every way. Ask for Room 1007!
