We enjoyed tremendously our stay at this very beautiful, classic luxury hotel. The accommodation was excellent, very spacious with top cleanliness standards. All the staff were exceptionally professional and most friendly. The Roof Bar is a must.

My wife and I stayed a couple of nights at the Alvear Palace Hotel during a Tauck trip through South America. The hotel's lobby and entrance areas are beautiful, but the rooms are very noisy. Could hear everything from the next room's bathroom in our bedroom. Also cleaning staff did not get around to our room until very late in the afternoon on both days, even though we hung a tag on the door asking for cleaning each morning when we left the hotel. Compared to some the other hotels we stayed on during our trip, this one was not among the best

We visited here for six nights in February for the Buenos Aires Tennis Tournament. The staff are friendly and professional, polite and cheerful (although we could say that about most of the nice people we met in the city). The concierge service was very good and we relied on them for a lot of dining assistance. The area around the hotel is safe and easy to navigate. Our room was on the top floor and had spectacular views of the city. The only thing I didn't care for was the included breakfast at the hotel lobby restaurant. I found the buffet extremely limited and the coffee undrinkable. We went out for breakfast after the first day and there are plenty of confiterias nearby (we liked La Biela). But don't let this minor detail keep you from staying here.

We stayed at the Alvear Palace about a week ago. After a dispute at reception about the room we had booked and paid for, we were taken to a Junior Suite. We rejected this suite on the grounds that we had a view of a concrete wall. We were shown 2 other Junior Suites & settled on one that appeared to be “cosy”. We unpacked our cases and it was then on closer inspection of the room we noticed that the AC vents were filthy, the seals around the shower cubicle were perished & leaking water. I also noticed a threadbare patch of carpet where the suitcase stand had been. Finally,on closer inspection of the dado rail,we discovered the pupae of carpet moth hanging from the dado rail. I pulled out the sofa and it was clear that there was a carpet moth infestation. Questions to be asked of Housekeeping - I think. Needless to say I was not impressed and insisted that we be moved immediately. We were moved to another Junior Suite, which we had viewed earlier. It was clear that some refurbishment had taken place - new carpet(!), repainted. But the bathrooms still need work. Poor flow from the shower head & leaking cubicle door. So what makes a 5*+ hotel? I don’t think it is unreasonable to have an expectation of a certain standard of bathroom & room condition when booking any room in a hotel of this calibre. Also there are no tea tray/coffe machines in the rooms, no nuts or nibbles with your drinks in the Roof top bar, any breakfast items which you want cooked to order are chargeable. All those things are generally available in 3/4* hotels.

This hotel is just spectacular! It is grand but welcoming. The staff couldn’t be nicer or more helpful. The high tea was amazing. Buffet breafast was delicious and the roof top bar at sunset is a must. Wonderful beginning to our vacation in South America
