Any city which aspires to the title “world class” needs at least one hotel that ranks in the top group of any in the world. In Buenos Aires, the hotel which fits that description is the Alvear Palace which could hold its own with any other in the world. What should you expect of a world class hotel and what do you get at the Alvear Palace? First and foremost, a staff trained to serve, to help make you stay pleasant, to answer questions and to guide you when asked. It must have style and class and provide a refuge to which you can return with confidence. In our case, we used the just off the lobby bar for our home base. A great spot for a quick drink, a light meal, a place to catch your breath. Built in the early 1930s, the hotel is in Recoleta the upscale neighborhood away from the city’s business center. Given the building’s age, it does not have the high rise glitz of newer offerings but it does have a more solid feel and classic decor that adds to its sense of style and charm. While there is no corporate connection, those who are familiar with the world class Palace Hotel in Barcelona will feel very much at home at the Alvear Palace in Buenos Aires. Both are at the top of their games and, for us, the only place to stay in either city.

The Alvear Palace Hotel is located at the Alvear Av . Is a super elegant street with an European style. The are is super safe and few blocks away there is a very traditional Basilica Del Pilar and the cemetery de La Recoleta . The hotel is my favourite place to have a tea time with my friends , family and with my daughters who they love to have tea time there. The selection of food is unbeatable , the sophistication of the china and the presentation is so lovely that i could spend hours there. The restaurant at the hotel is La Bourgougne , incredible food and service. Next the Alvear there is a a gallery where i bought very nice handmade Argentinean things .

A magnificent hotel with 5 star customer service. Fresh, bright with soaring ceilings in common areas, great restaurants, rooftop sunning area. Swimming pool and jacuzzi. Exquisit bathrooms. Attention to every detail - note the hook on dining room chairs to hang a purse from. Fast elevators and an unsurpassed winding marble staircase. Comfortable soft pillow top bed. Very clean throughout hotel. I was able to change money at the front desk without a big fee. Like every other place in town, Uber is hit or miss in (January 2018) so if you are on a tight timeline I recommend a cab. Hotel is located next to some great shopping including a wonderful leather goods store across the street. About 3 blocks from Cemetary where Evita is entombed and 5 blocks from their large metal flower, an iconic image of the city.

Upscale and trendy rooftop bar. Lots of beautiful people. Great views. Good service and fair prices. We were the only tourists there. Highly recommended for a night cap. The hotel lobby is gorgeous and worth a visit.

Stayed here by accident when our trip was interrupted by the nationwide general strike and we couldn't take our scheduled flight home. Our tour company arranged for us to stay here at a lower rate, so we expected to be put in their lesser rooms. But no--the rooms were palatial and grand in a French motif of the Versailles variety, with a huge chandelier in the bedroom, ornate and multiple mirrors, fancy woodwork, and of course a marble bathroom that was likewise huge. Enough room for a couch and coffee table, desk and chair, side table with TV and fridge, end tables. One could easily live in that bright and cheery room. Even better was the included breakfast buffet, in their equally impressive a dining area and courtyard. The variety of foods, beautifully displayed, was overwhelming, and the staff were attentive and accommodating throughout, not stuffy at all. A welcome surprise, given the circumstances, that far surpassed expectations. And, by the way, this hotel was far better than the other two 5* hotels we stayed at during our time in BA. The next time we are in BA, this will be our hotel of choice.
