Very nice neighborhood for upscale convenient location. 20 minute walk from opera house or historic church with mausoleums. Average sized room with larger bath. Tub and separate shower. Very clean but aging slightly in bath. Very good beds. Quiet. Better than average breakfast buffet. Limited dinner options. On tour so not familiar with pricing.

Our cruise line used this hotel for us after 3 weeks at sea. A very nice hotel with all the amenities. But the best part of our stay was the people that worked there. Everyone had a smile on their face, a helping hand, and a wonderful grasp of English. They took care of everything, from storing our bags, delivering to our rooms while we were out seeing the city, helping with directions, doors, service in the restaurant, etc. And the location was just blocks from all the activity in the Recoleta district. So much going on and so much to see.

Let's start with the positives, which you read in all the other reviews. Good location, beautiful lobby, beautiful restaurant, well-fitted guest rooms and bathrooms, nice in-room amenities, clean, all of which are expected of a 5-star hotel. What's also expected of a hotel bearing the luxury Sofitel brand, is a well-oiled machine in terms of the service. Unfortunately, this was not what we experienced. This hotel was a perfect example of departments working in "silos", where it was evident to me as a guest that the staff don't communicate well across departments. It all started right after I made my reservation. I reached out to the hotel via the Expedia app to ask for airport transfer prices. I was asked to provide my personal email address so that I could be sent the information, so I did. I didn't receive any emails for 2 days, which is when I followed up with the team. They told me that the concierge had issues with their email, and I was then sent the information via the Expedia app. This means that they could have sent it to me in the first place via the app, and providing my email address wasn't necessary. To make it funnier, they only sent me the transfer rates from the international airport, even though I said that I would be arriving at the domestic one. I eventually received two emails from the concierge department the same day. One in the morning, still omitting transfer costs from the domestic airport, and one later in the day with more complete information, except that it wasn't really. Read on. We took awhile to reply the hotel since we were travelling. I emailed them back on 22 Dec to confirm the arrangements for pick up on 24 Dec. I then got a reply that I would be charged 50% more than the initially quoted rate because it was Christmas Eve. Wait a minute - didn't they always know that we were arriving on 24 Dec? Why did they not highlight this in the first few emails? Of course I tried to get them to honour the initial quote, which they couldn't. So I said that I was willing to accept the higher rate if they could do us a favour and make a stop between the airport and the hotel as we had to collect our suitcases from the previous hotel. This is when it went silent. I never got a reply, even when I chased. I ended up booking my own transfer, and thought maybe everyone went home early for the Christmas break and didn't see my email in time (although this is pretty unacceptable - a hotel is a 24/7 business and someone should always be manning the emails.) I was expecting an email with an apology or explanation when everyone came back to work on 26 Dec though, but I never got one. We had a lot of laundry which had to be done when we got to the hotel, and we asked the front desk for the price list since we couldn't find it in the room (we eventually did). I would have expected to be told where to find it, or have it provided to us on the spot, but we were told to call "0" from our room. Anyway, the laundry prices are exorbitant (not unexpected of a 5-star hotel) so we ended up sending our clothes to a local laundromat around the corner for a fraction of the price. The hotel should consider providing the option of charging by bag, in addition to per item. Otherwise, it's just lost revenue opportunity. We had one of our dinners at the hotel restaurant. It's a beautifully decorated restaurant, and the food quality is not bad. Our server was fantastic, she was attentive and professional. What I didn't really like was how a group of staff (our server not included) started gathering around the hostess stand and started chit-chatting with each other. It didn't disturb anyone, but I personally think that it's not behavior that should be tolerated in a 5-star hotel. In their silos, however, there were moments of brilliance. The front office lady noticed that we had booked a room with 2 single beds but we had 2 young children with us. She took the initiative to offer to change us to a room with a queen bed and a complimentary rollaway. That was very perceptive of her and a gesture that we greatly appreciated. It showed that she understood the room product well. The porters (probably the same people in the aforementioned concierge team) were on top of their game. They were quick to provide assistance at every juncture. This is a beautiful hotel, very much a mini art gallery. If the service level could be more consistent across departments and across all days, it could warrant a 5 star rating.

As part of our trip to Patagonia, we had planned on spending a couple of days in Buenos Aires before heading back home. We were planning on spending New Year’s Eve there and decided to stay at the Brick Hotel – Sofitel in the Recoleta district. The hotel is in a very nice location in a pricey neighborhood with lots of fancy shops. The lobby is very spacious, as were the rooms, the bathroom was very nice and the amenities were great. After the king sized bed, there was still plenty of room to move around and there was a nice desk with a few chairs that fit easily in the room. We had not made any prior reservations for New Year’s Eve dinner and headed straight to the concierge for help. She was extremely helpful – a special shout out to Belen for all her assistance in getting us a table at a water front restaurant in Puerto Madero. She even helped in arranging a for a taxi ride back to the hotel – as we learned, Buenos Aires shut down on New Year’s Eve and taxis are impossible to find. Belen called the taxi driver and told him to meet us at the restaurant at 1am and when we found him she was on the phone with him to make sure that we were picked up. She even made sure to talk to us and check on us. Once again, cannot thank her enough. This is the kind of service that we look for in a new place and we were extremely happy with the Brick Hotel and of course with Belen.

Two of my photos won a contest & were displayed in the art gallery. On the night of the opening of the show, I was astonished by the beauty of the space along with the warmth & kindness of the staff. The bar was gorgeous, decorated with photos of rock icons such as Bowie & Lennon. The drinks and catering were exquisite. The staff went out of their way to bring extra chairs so that my guests could have a seat. Everything exceeded my expectations & made me feel very proud to have been able to invite family & friends to the opening of my first photo exhibition. I am very grateful and certainly intend to go back.
