We stayed here once before and decided to come back because we like the hotel setting of mostly individual free standing yellow country cottages spread out on a large landscaped property within walking distance of charming downtown Calistoga. Since our last stay the rooms have been nicely redone in a softer tone, but the landscape grounds which had a natural look to them last stay, seemed borderline upkept in places. We chose a Garden Terrace King to get a little more private backyard space. The room was spacious and efficient with a simple modern décor. The layout of Solage rooms is unique with a windowed bathroom in the back with entry to this space from either side of the bed. As for the ample outdoor space we were a little disappointed. In pictures on the hotel website there are seven pieces of furniture including a double lounge chair. Our space had only three pieces. While two or three missing pieces is a bummer, four is just one too many. With the price we paid for our stay the hotel could easily buy the missing lounger and have money left over for a soft close toilet lid. A highlight of the hotel are its impressive amenities. The main pool is very large with comfortable loungers and great views of hills and palm trees. The spa pool is warm and the surroundings more intimate. This area includes a full assortment of hot tubs, steam, sauna, and even a cold plunge. The gym is large and useful with a wall of windows out to a garden. Solbar the hotel restaurant is stylish inside and also has a nice outdoor terrace. The food is good but it is a little too fancy for my simple tastes. The new open-air main pool side Mexican restaurant Picobar has a nice casual vibe. The daily resort fee was $70 during our stay. Parking is free as you can park near your room but valet service is an option.

The food options were limited, and some items listed were unavailable. Phones kept ringing at night, disturbing our sleep. There was no assistance provided with setting up the pool chairs. When we requested additional napkins at the poolside, the staff member responded impolitely.

Wonderful resort, and accommodating for our family including two young kids and a dog. The room was large, comfortable beds and a lovely private outdoor patio space. We spent most our time in the pools and loved the different options including a family pool and an adult pool with spas, steam, sauna and cold plunge. Very relaxing and beautifully designed. Will be making it back soon!

Solage continues to be a wonderful resort, with friendly and attentive staff and great facilities. However, for those looking for a quiet experience, the pool is now a family destination, which changes the atmosphere from one of quiet luxury to family fun.
