The Charles Hotel was absolutely beautiful and was the prefect fit for the work conference I attended at the Harvard Kennedy School. The location couldn't have been more convenient. I would highly recommend any groups looking at hosting a workshop near Harvard Kennedy School to check out this hotel!

The 2 hour wait time to get a room was insane. So saddened and disappointed about the experience!! That we choose another venue for our wedding!

The Charles Hotel claims to be a 5 star property and we can quickly understand that its location is excellent as our the beds and pillows in the room – comfortable and abundant. However, long before one checks in and even afterwards, the shortcomings begin to reveal themselves. When we arrived at the hotel there was no one to greet us and no one to help us with our luggage. We struggled through the doors and were greeted kindly by reception, which for two people who checked in together, did not even consider having our rooms in close proximity to each other. Okay, minor issues so far, right? Finally we are offered two rooms on the same floor, however one of them still has a lingering smoked filled residue. Obviously, someone was smoking in the room and it was not professionally cleaned by the hotel, which was surprising. Why did the hotel ignore this? Was the cleaning staff not trained to report such incidents to management? “Delicious” red apples are offered to guests at reception, on display in a beautiful fruit bowl – we take two – both are rotten. We go to the main floor bar to watch the Madrid Open tennis tournament and plead with the bartender to allow us to watch it. He responds rudely suggesting that we can watch it in our room given that basketball seems to be the game of choice, and notwithstanding that the bar has two TV’s. Champagne problems? Perhaps, but any five star hotel that I’ve been to would be much more eager to please its guests and would be far more attentive to the details.

This was my second time staying at the Charles and I must say I really love this hotel. It is exceedingly comfortable. The front desk is so professional and friendly. The whole place smells amazing. It may be in my top favorite hotels, regardless of location. I was happy to have a reason to return, and hope to do so again in the future.
