Charming place, very bad run and not at all luxury or the price worth

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

A charming old hacienda with a huge jungle like garden and pool in ruins marketed as luxury 5* Hotel and charged over 600$ per night BUT not at all luxury hotel experience because: we stayed 3 days and small menu never changed even every day more things were out, so had to eat always the same. Quality of food was mediocre and at breakfast no butter (!) because Hotel run out of butter!!! Service was friendly but extremely inattentive and slow: had to go into the kitchen to ask for waiter ( beside us were only two other couple at that time). First day of our stay a group of guest (family) conquered the pool and eat and drink in the pool not at the side of the pool.To Our complaints about that unhygienic and unsafety (glase broke) behavior didn’t change anything. Next day at pool were bottle corks and lemon slices frontage tequila drinks… It’s such a pity as the place is charming but run in such a bad way! Nothing like luxury boutique hotel which is more than 600$ per night worth. Big disappointment

Gorgeous retreat

We’ve now stayed at three of the five IHG haciendas on the Yucatan peninsula. Hacienda Uayamon is clearly one of the most beautiful: it is surrounded by lush gardens and woods with a deep wealth of birds. Understand that this is a hotel installed in the ruins of a picturesque, remote agricultural institution (sisal plantation)—it is gracious and luxurious, but not antiseptic and refined to the ultimate degree. This is the countryside. You may encounter imperfect plumbing, perhaps a frog in the shower (I did—it’s not a big deal), and creaky old doors that don’t operate perfectly. On the other hand, you will enjoy friendly service, a magical swimming pool, beauty, and peace. The food is fine and pleasant, but don’t expect memorable preparations—the kitchens in these haciendas are not ambitious. (I’d particularly love to see the haciendas elevate their regional cuisine, but of course, some guests would then whine about it being “too spicy” or otherwise challenging.) Understand that there’s not a great deal to do, here, either. The Edzna archaeological site is about half an hour away, and this is a great place to stay for that attraction. Picturesque Campeche city is 30 minutes in the other direction. The knowledgeable gardeners happily offer a bird watching tour (they supply good binoculars)—highly recommended. Mainly, if you’re ready to enjoy doing nothing in particular, then Hacienda Uayamon is a terrific choice. We stayed in a King Suite in the hacienda’s old hospital building. The room was fun and the bed excellent. Worth it.

Hacienda Uayamon: The pool and the buildings on the grounds!…they are a work of art such old and historic architecture! We came specifically to see and experience the pool at Hacienda Uayamon - we were not disappointed! The location!… unique in the peaceful and fascinating jungle a 15 min walk from a typical village of the Yucatán Peninsula. Many of the people speak Mayan here. The staff! From the concierge Jenny, to sweet and professional lady in her beautiful huipil at reception, to the restaurant and housekeeping staff- kind, welcoming, and helpful! We have stayed at all 5 Haciendas of the Bonvoy Luxury Collection, and we like to tell people that “Now we can die”. ☺️ Thank you Hacienda Uayamon!

Unlucky visit to a great place

This is a unique place in the middle of the forest. You can enjoy the experience of being really in the hart of nature but in style. Unluckily while we were there it never stopped raining so the place was really saddening. Probably, had I experienced a sunny day my evaluation would’ve been a 5+

Amazing and full of history hacienda

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed June 19, 2022

While this hacienda (part of the 5 haciendas which are in the Luxury Collection of Marriott) is fairly isolated, it is still an excellent base to visit Maya ruins at Edzna and the small costal city of Campeche. Founded 300 years ago, but with building dating mostly from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th century, this hacienda is filled with history. At one time, it was bursting with activities as many local people were working to produce dyes sold in Europe. Many buildings, including the factory and the chapel, are now in ruins but can still be visited, giving a unique atmosphere to that hotel. A beautiful pool is found in another ruin, creating the impression that soaking in there brings you back to the past… I really had the impression of bathing in a Roman bath house! The restaurant is located in the main building, overlooking the deep jungle. Beautiful settings with cocktail bar and library, as well as two outdoor terrasses. The food was very nice (without being gastronomic), but the cocktails were simply amazing. Our room was located… in an old charity hospital! Very high ceiling and beautiful furniture. Those historical settings have a cost… on one night we had no hot water, while internet was unavailable in the room for most of our stay.
