Reviews for The Lake House on Canandaigua

Wonderful Stay at a Wonderful Hotel

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We came to The Lake House to watch the eclipse. We stayed for 4 nights and had a wonderful time. The hotel is lovely. It has a lovely heated outdoor pool and whirlpool, as well as complimentary yoga, meditation and stretch classes. Everything was wonderful and not at all crowded. We were very impressed with the warmth and professionalism of the staff, the food in the Sandbar and the great cocktails. Our only suggestion is that the hotel reconsider some of its rather odd pricing policies, such as charging for morning coffee. At a hotel of this category, that is usually complimentary.

Not worth the money

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

I had originally booked 2 rooms for the Solar Eclipse. Unfortunately I had 2 young children and they could not stay in a room by themselves. I asked for connecting rooms and was told I could not get. So I was told I had to just use the one room. Surprised to learn they upcharged me what I would consider a significant amount (basically the cost of 2 rooms…$2900 for 2 night). And to add insult to injury the room I got wasn’t setup to accommodate 3 people and it had a connecting room. Don’t know why I couldn’t get the connecting room considering I had booked several months in advance. My guess is they were looking to maximize profit for the Solar Eclipse. Needless to say, I was not happy. In addition the hotel and overall experience is so so. I had picked because it had a nice writeup in Trace and Leisure magazine. This hotel and the experience was certainly not worth the money or time. I absolutely would not repeat. Additionally my room wasn’t cleaned in between my stays. It is a 3 star at best with a 2 star service. Perhaps under normal circumstances, when the hotel isn’t having to handle a major event such as the Solar Eclipse, I can see the experience/stay being better but I’ve stayed in the finger lake many times and can say you can find better. It’s an okay stay and depending what you’re looking for can be worth it. The location was very good. The rooms were also good. So if you do go, just do the research to ensure a good balance between your desired activities and budget spend to recognize good value.

Great off-season stay!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

My husband and I stayed here off-season 1/31-2/2/24. We checked in with Alantra who was friendly, explained everything in detail and even upgraded us from a King Woodview to King Lakefront (only downside to Room 307 is that it’s right by elevator and ice machine, so if noises bother you, this room isn’t for you). All other staff were always friendly and willing to help us with anything we needed. The room was beautiful and balcony was huge. The public areas were also beautiful and we loved playing the table shuffleboard and several board games in the library. One night we enjoyed sitting at the bar in the Rose Tavern and enjoyed a scrumptious espresso martini and charcuterie board. The woman bartender was very personable and made excellent drinks. Two of the drinks were complimentary with our Warm Up to Winter package. We ate lunches and dinners offsite, but close by and will review separately and all were very good and would recommend— walkable was Mutphy’Law Tavern and Nolan’s Steakhouse and 2-3 miles away was Twisted Rail Brewery. We look forward to a return trip as there are many things to do.

Memorable time over Thanksgiving

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 months ago

My wife and I spent Thanksgiving weekend at the Lake House and we are still reminiscing about the wonderful experience months later. We loved the buffet on Thanksgiving in the barn on our first day which set a great tone for the rest of our time there. The most heartwarming part of the stay was the staff - especially the waitresses who we got to know at the barn, at the Sand Bar and Rose Tavern. Food was top notch but the service was beyond. We also loved meeting the horticulturalist who worked magic transitioning from fall to Christmas overnight. The room was absolutely gorgeous. We splurged on a lake view and it was worth it. The amenities were special and the furniture and art was inspiring. The bed is hand carved wood by an artist who designed all the furnishings as well as the chandelier in the lobby. It is expensive but something we want to save up for to return again. We liked the quiet vibe of the off season with less people (it was still lively). The on-site restaurants are superb and we also enjoyed some local spots in town which was very close by. Highly recommended for a couples getaway! Thanks to the staff who went out of their way to make us feel welcome. Everyone from the house keeping staff to the folks at the spa were warm and friendly. We got massages and did the outdoor sauna - both were memorable and worth every penny. The relaxation room at the spa was so special. Overall, great time and can’t wait to go back!
