No need to worry

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 19 hours ago

I'm the person who continues reading reviews of the place I booked until the holiday actually begins, and so I did with this hotel. Oh, the worry! long queues at the restaurant, smelly rooms, staff at reception don't care, they'll take advantage of you as a guest wherever they can, not enough sun loungers etc.etc. Admittedly, we arrived with some trepidation. Due to delays with our flight we arrived fairly late in the evening, exhausted from a long day's journey - which must have been written all over our faces. We were greeted by exceptionally friendly staff who instantly offered us drinks and made us feel welcome whilst providing us with necessary information about restaurants and the overall hotel layout. We had booked half board, but our late arrival had made us miss dinner. The lovely receptionist offered that someone could bring us something to the room so we needn't go hungry. We had only arrived at our room when 5 minutes later room service arrived who laid a perfect table for us, soup, cheese, Iberian specialities such as choices of ham, sausage, cheeses, olives....we couldn't ask for more. Our room was a deluxe double with garden view. We were happy with the layout, the quality of the beds and -unlike what I had read many times before- I did not find the furniture dated or worn. What do people expect? refurnishing every couple of years? The bathroom has a rainfall shower as well as a wide bathtub and excellent water pressure. The following morning we thought we might have just been lucky for not having to wait in a long queue at the restaurant Pangea for breakfast, but we should find out that we never had to wait longer than a minute for being seated, most of the time on the rear terrace, which we thought was a lovely place with a view on the fish pond. Our food was always still warm when we arrived at the table, waiting staff were friendly and attentive. We didn't even bother to try any of the other restaurants as we could have as part of the half board deal. We always found something that would suit our taste, the desert options being my favourite. We did have lunch once at the Oasis Pool Bar & Grill which was very tasty as well. We visited the family pool and the infinity pool, sun loungers plenty at both pools, and especially at the infinity pool we found quiet areas under palms on sun loungers that were comfortable enough to spend hours on. All in all, there was no point worrying about all the negatives mentioned in many reviews before. We thoroughly enjoyed a week of sunshine in a wonderful hotel.

Disappointed…

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 day ago

Decided to book this after seeing the hotel on a previous visit to Tenerife. It’s a well appointed hotel. Lots of space indoors and outdoors. Overall, disappointed with the experience and service by reception and guest experience. Customer service is not the hotel’s strong point and when items are called to their attention the attitude was defensive or passed the blame to another department. Not helpful when you just want a nice holiday and things to be great. Booking a restaurant needs to be done by seeking someone out at breakfast time or using the app. The app did not work well! There’s ample on street parking, nice walks from the hotel, different pool areas, plenty of choice for breakfast. It’s a nice hotel but needs help with its customer service and cleaning standards. Personally we would look for alternate hotel next time around.

Beautiful hotel that gets most things right

We arrived early and received our room at 3 as advised. In the meantime our bags were held and we enjoyed early lunch at Agave which became our pattern. The room on 4th floor overlooking the gardens was spacious, sunny and well appointed with loads of storage, a comfortable bed and a good shower. The Agave as mentioned was good for lunch and service there was excellent. Indeed service once seated was excellent, attentive and friendly through. Minor quibble with the restaurant hostesses where there seemed to be Pfaff in order to get seated leading to queues forming unnecessarily. The main diningroom terrace is a lovely place to dine just maybe give the blinds a hose down more regularly. The birds, the birds!!! Food was good in the buffet, agave and l’olio although we couldn’t get into the Asian restaurant we did much enjoy the asian offerings at the buffet. Drinks were of a high standard and the all inclusive offering just fine. Again staff were very helpful at all bars. We had no issue finding sun beds and the pool area was attractive. The exercise classes were super we particularly enjoyed the 9am on the terrace where we did conditioning, pilates, yoga and others. All different and professionally run. In essence a good quality hotel that seems to have improved service levels and food quality since our last visit a couple of years ago. We hope to return.

Terrible experience!!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 days ago

After a long flight we arrived at the hotel and once we checked in and got to our room there was a strong smell of damp. Later that evening my 7 year daughter was using the bathroom and screamed that there was water coming through the ceiling. When I entered the bathroom water was gushing out from the spot lights which in turn ruined our personal belongings. When we called down to reception to tell them about the water coming through the ceiling we were told someone would be coming up; however 30 minutes later still no one had appeared so we had to go down to reception ourselves, who were not very helpful, to find out what was going on. We were given another room so we repacked our belongings and moved with no help from the staff, baring in mind we had travelled that day so we were very tired at this point and was hoping to be able to relax and start to enjoy our family holiday. The room we got moved to, there was an even stronger smell of damp but luckily water didn’t appear from the ceilings. On day 3 of our holiday my daughter woke up to a cockroach around her feet. She is 7 years old and you can imagine she was very upset and traumatised by this. For 7 days in a row we found cockroaches in our room. We reported this to reception every day and because we were told there were no other rooms available the only thing they could do was clean the room. One morning I even woke to found a dismantled cockroach on the floor by my bedside where I had stepped on it in the night, half of the cockroach was still attached to my foot!!! Things unfortunately didn’t get any better. During our stay and we were only able to eat at the A al carte restaurant twice and was told that almost half of the menu wasn’t actually available. On our last day we had later flights to go home so I asked reception if we could keep the room for an additional 2 hours, which was denied. I am horrified that after everything that happened during our stay at the hotel you were not able to accommodate us to have a later checkout. I spent over £8500 on this holiday for me and my family, which is am happy to do so however I am absolutely disgusted that a 5 star hotel operates in this manner. I regularly stay in Melia hotels and this is probably the lowest standard of hospitality that I have encountered and will be very reluctant to use this hotel group again. Also I would just like to add that many of our personal items of ours had water damage from the first night which we have had to discard of as they were perished.

A 5 star experience at a 5 star hotel

Spacious and comfy rooms with fair size balcony. Splendid range of restaurants with wide variety of food. Plenty of sun beds round pool so need to reserve. Enormous salt water infinity pool, but beware not heated. Special mention to Alberto, Reservations Manager, who could not have been more helpful when I encountered problems with my room and reservation. Found staff very friendly with nightly entertainment especially to be recommended are the Rock and Roll night and Circus entertainers and singers. At the moment, not many shops or restaurants near the hotel but with shops on site and good food at hotel. Would recommend
