The Riviera Maya has its share of luxury hotels, but sophisticated Grand Residences Riviera Cancun is a notable exception to the area's crowded mega resorts. The quaint fishing village of Puerto Morelos—famous for its coral reefs, dense jungle and quiet beaches—is a quick stroll away. They face the turquoise waters of the Mexican Caribbean and include large living areas, kitchens and private terraces plus high-tech creature comforts such as complimentary wireless Internet access, iPod docks, and large LED-screen televisions.

Ready for a bit of decadence? While away time in one of the beachside shaded hammocks or lounge in a chaise on the sprawling sun deck surrounding the tiered infinity pool and have a butler supply you with umbrella drinks. For active types, the resort is flush with possibilities like tennis, and beach volleyball. Inquire with the concierge team about Mexican cooking classes, Tequila tastings and swimming excursions to the peninsula's unique cenotes (sinkholes filled with crystalline water). If pampering is your main desire, shed your everyday worries at the spa with treatments like a relaxing hot stone or Lomi-Lomi massage. A wealth of children's and teen activities ranging from Mayan games to movie time, a nursery plus a dedicated kids' pool make Grand Residences a perfectly stress-free getaway for families. Stomach growling? Take your pick among a range of fine or casual dining options at the resort. You can also opt to cuddle up in your suite for dinner. This is my second time staying at the grand residences and it was even better than my first stay. This resort is perfect for families looking for a smaller, more manageable resort; couples looking for good alone time; and groups of friends looking for relaxation. If you are looking for a party atmosphere this is not the resort for you (although you can make your own party...just has to end by 10:30-when the tiny lobby bar closes). If you are looking for a retreat away from stress where you can connect with your loved ones or friends then this is absolutely the resort for you. We were on a girls trip where all we wanted to do was lay by the pool, drink some margaritas, eat chips and guacamole and some shrimp tacos, have good food all around and go to bed early in a relaxing and luxurious space. It was absolutely perfect for all of those goals, and we plan to go back again next year. Everything about this place is focused on relaxation and beautiful touches. I cannot stress strongly enough that the food here is leaps and bounds better than any other all-inclusive food I have ever had. Period. Some ppl at the resort do not chose the AI option so the food has to be higher quality as it’s the same food ppl are paying for and it is not cheap. Our waiter said their chef is either from France or trained in France I can’t recall but the food is delicious. Room: This stay we were in a master suite which had one bedroom with a king bed and a Murphy bed. The living area had 2 Murphy beds. The kitchen was beautiful-granite counters, full size fridge and stove/ovens. I can’t imagine what ppl are cooking but I guess if you don’t do the AI it is available to you. Otherwise it provides a beautiful home like feel. The room also had a powder room which was great! Our room on the 4th floor of our building had a large balcony that had a full size dining table and chairs on one side, and two slider cushioned chairs with ottomans on the other by our outdoor tub. It looked out over the pool with a stunning ocean view. Double vanities in the main bath with a beautiful rain shower and separate tub. The room had two large flat screen TVs, a large couch and love seat in the living room to hang out as a group and watch TV, Netflix or Apple TV. The room was unbelievably beautiful and we had zero complaints. Changes: A few things were different this stay. Not bad just different. First, breakfast has both the buffet option or a la carte if you want. They assume you want buffet unless you ask for a la carte. We did buffet and loved it. They have tons of options plus an omelet/egg/quesadilla station. Also a change from our last stay, two restaurants are now open, and you need to make reservations with your concierge for both. We did this before our arrival to ensure we had earlier times. You now also need to reserve your beach and pool chairs a day in advance. You do this at the activity center and then your chairs are ready for you in the morning when you come down. The staff gets them ready with towels, headrests etc. The only real area to get “booked” with chairs was the beach. The adult pool area had tons of options open regardless. We booked the same seats pretty much every day with no problem. Also different this time is that we got checked in on our way from the airport to the hotel. Our “butler” came with the driver to do this. This was very convenient and made the check-in even breezier. This may only happen when there is availability, otherwise check-in generally happens in the room I believe. The butler idea was the only slight negative, although I would say it was more neutral as we had no need for butler services. However, our butler didn’t follow through with booking our first round of chairs for us, which he said he would do when taking us on our tour of the resort, nor did we get the pillows we requested when he stopped by the pool to inquire as to any requests we had. It wasn’t a big deal on either front because the chairs we wanted were open anyways and the pillows were very easy to get directly from housekeeping, however, the lack of follow through didn’t sync with the rest of the service we received which was amazing. This seemed to be more of a “look you get a butler” surface perk without any real substance. Service: Everyone here is so hard working, warm and welcoming. Our room was cleaned impeccably every day. Turn down service comes at night and when you come back from dinner you are all set to go to bed. The men and women working at the pool were amazing. They are happy to accommodate special requests. I got grilled shrimp tacos for lunch each day even though they are listed as tempura breaded shrimp tacos. Little things like this go a long way and this is just one example of many attempts by the staff to meet your needs. I also love that you can tip on your room even though with all-inclusive your meals and drinks are included. I always tip at all inclusive. These workers are not seeing your money when you pay for it all up front and they work incredibly hard, so tipping should be expected and planned for in the vacation budget (in my opinion of course). Making it easy so I don’t have to cart money with me everywhere is great. You get a zeroed out check at the end of each meal or when leaving the bar/pool. You can add tip to this so the only thing you are paying on the bill is the tip. You get an email receipt from the pool (it’s all done electronically) and a paper receipt at the restaurants for keeping track. They let you tip in US dollars electronically which is helpful for those of us who are math challenged after a few margaritas by the pool ;) Bonus: we did a yoga class on Sunday with an absolute legit yogi. We are talking I don’t think I’ve ever really done yoga with a legit yogi until this class. Mostly I’ve done core power yoga but he has been teaching for like 30 years and it shows. I believe he must teach all over not just at this resort but it was amazing, challenging but amazing. It was different from any class I have taken before but I feel like it was a true treat and really special to have a class with him. There was also a wedding at the resort while we were there, and they had some great music the night of their reception, so that was some additional bonus fun for us! I still can’t believe this resort isn’t packed at all times. My guess is it is because it is not surrounded by nightlife and has no nightlife of its own to speak of. We are not about that life anymore so if you could care less about a club atmosphere and instead prefer pampering and your vacation drinking to happen during the day with early nights to bed stay here you will not be disappointed!!! Feel free to PM me with any questions, I would be happy to give my honest opinion.

Our son and his beautiful bride chose Grand Residences for their wedding on January 12, 2018. It was perfect! We actually upgraded to a penthouse suite and that made for a great place for family members to gather. We were in 521. About the penthouse - It is actually three separate rooms, the Master Suite in the middle, a Junior Suite on one side, and a Double Bed Suite on the other side. We had my 93 year old dad staying in the double bed suite and one of our daughters and her husband in the other. That way, all the rooms were being used by our party. We had an elevator up to the penthouse, so access was very easy. The attention to detail is amazing. Our room was cleaned twice a day. Everything was immaculate! Maybe because we were the parents of the groom, we had a beautiful arrangement of lilies that scented the entire suite for the five days we were there. Our views were wonderful from the patio, which had a hot tub and a heated pool. Beautiful deck with plenty of room for guests to mingle. Our son and his wife had incredible attention from the staff, especially Caesar! What a classy guy. I could write for a long time about how perfect it was, but I am going to stop and offer to answer questions, if anyone has them. All I can say is that the all- inclusive was totally worth it!!! I would never go to a place like this without doing it that way.

First of all they send us a nice black private SUV from the Cancun Airport to the Hotel, the driver was super polite and he offer us towel to clean our hands and bottle of water, he also ask what we want to drink upon arrival, this is first class treatment, at arrival staff are outside to meet us and escort us to the front desk for check in with our drinks!!! We stay 6 nights at the hotel in the Master Suites, the suites was super nice and immaculately clean, stock with bear and soda and a free bottle of Tequila!!! We choose the all included meals plan and again we were not disappointed, food was excellent (Gain 5 pounds in 6 days!!!) the change the dinner option every nights, 1st night was a la carte, steak seafoods ect.. 2nd night was Italian night, third night was BBQ beside the pool, service was always perfect, food plan was around $100 per person per day, breakfast are buffet style with fruits, omelette, scramble eggs, sausage and mexican beef casserole style, we also eat by the pool everyday and the menu was fantastic but ok . All the staff are super nice and friendly, specially (Tony Woop Woop Hya) Antonio who is the activity guy, Cant wait to go back.

My husband and I were at the Grand Residence this past weekend. This place was truly remarkable. Five stars is not enough to review the Grand Residence. From the minute they pick you up and the airport until they drop you back off the attention to detail and the phenomenal service is non stop. I have never stayed at a place like this before. Everything and everyone there are like none other. I would highly recommend!

I am fresh off my Cancun, Grand Residence vacation. After arriving yesterday evening, i wanted to write my review before i forget the details. HOTEL: nice but rather small in comparison to others (ive stayed at Finest Playa Mujeres, Paradisus, and a few others). STAFF: i can think of only 2 really nice and friendly staff members at this resort, one of which was Ramon and Claudia, my concierge. Every single other person was just working there and unfriendly. At other resorts, every staff members says hello, goes out of their way to assist you and are just purely pleasant and approachable people. There was no effort made by the staff by the pool to get you a drink, they would literally stand around and chit chat. I am latina so i understood every thing they said. I also felt very uncomfortable walking around to get a drink at the Heaven bar because the staff would scatter when they saw me and just stare. I am truly not sure why the staff is stale and unfriendly, especially being that they ask for tips in the checks. Very disappointed. Hotel: I purchased an all-inclusive package for my family. This is the only way i travel to cancun. I have never experienced having to tip, literally having to tip because they stand there and wait to give you your check so you can tip. This was the worst part of my trip because it took away the peace of mind to just get a drink or a smoothie for my daughter because i had to wait for my check. The hotel offers options for a non all-inclusive package but ours was all inclusive and we wore a blue bracelet but that didnt help. Also prices were even mentioned to us when looking at menus which made us question every time what our package included. EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED! Hotel room: we stayed in the 3rd floor room 325B (junior suite) partial oceanview. It was a beautiful room and the murphy bed was perfect for my 4 year old daughter. it was really a lovely room which was the best part of our trip. Adult pool bar and Lobby Bar: we noticed that no staff is ever visible at these bars. We waited a few times at the adult pool bar but no one came. We had to literally keep an eye out for a staff member to come out so we could get a drink. The Lobby bar is super weird. There is always a staff member standing behind the door and if they see someone approach they come out and ask u if you want something. My assumption is that they don't want u to stop and get a drink thats why they don't have someone visibly at the bar. If they see someone stop that is when he comes out of hiding behind the door as if he was just coming out from the back. This wasn't the case because we caught the staff member standing by the door a few times. FOOD: was good but only 2 restaurants to chose from so the food options were quite boring after 7 days with same options. OVERALL: I would not recommend this resort. Although it is a nice resort, I would recommend going to others that offer a lot more for the price.
