We were at the resort for 6 nights and never had a bad meal nor poor service. Our room was a 1 BR ocean view with a full length balcony complete with 4 top table, lounge chair and hammock. The kitchen was stainless/granite. Internet service was perfect ($10 per day) Even room service was fast and delicious. The staff is incredibly efficient and friendly. It is an EZ resort to get around vs those which are huge and require a lot of walking. This resort is a timeshare/all inclusive, so the sales pitch for the 'free' breakfast to show you around should be avoided. They offer all sorts of discounts to tempt you, but not worth it if you aren't there to buy. We were not there with husbands, so they know chances are slim with us and did not bother us. Beware though ~ they pitch you right at check in. Many pools, nice beach, kayaks & paddleboards, beach & pool food/drink service plus 4 excellent restaurants. Our only complaint was the spa was exceptionally $$$$. We usually have a day or two of spa services, but passed this time. VERY nice....doubt you would be disappointed!

We've had mostly great weather during our trips to Cancun, so i guess we were due for a bad one. Sunday/Monday tropical storm Bret & then Tuesday/Wednesday Tropical storm Cindy...rough but not the resort's fault. I was pretty discouraged with our January stay and very nervous about bringing our family of 14 back in June. Overall, I was pleased that our trip ended up better than expected. The staff is always excellent. They are unbelievable. I'll reiterate that any problems we've ever had here is a result of the management and not the staff. I need to start writing down names. By the time i get around to writing a review, I forget them all. Janet always sticks out as a huge positive. We enjoy seeing her each trip. Unfortunately for us her replacement at the activities desk is a complete moron and ruined our beach volleyball experience. For 12 months we get excited to play some adult volleyball and the new guy was letting 7-10 year olds play during the adult time. That really left a sour taste for us. We were there during Father's day and they offered free 20-minutes father's day massages on the beach. That was really cool. I just can't stress enough how everybody there goes out of their way to make you feel special during your stay. The resort continues to be beautiful. It's hard to imagine that it could get any better, but it does each time. The concierges are great. They were able to put 4 rooms together for us side-by-side. We had to say on a lower floor which was a bummer, but being together was worth it. That was a huge positive. We also extended our stay 1 night to get some better weather. They changed people around to allow us to stay in the same rooms. That was much appreciated! We are not buffet people, and tend to avoid the buffet. We might try it once every other visit. Let me just say that there must be a concerted effort into making the buffet better. We had one dinner and one breakfast and it was delicious. I could not believe the improvement in the quality of the buffet. There also seemed to be a little more options. It was incredible. The entire family has been talking about our buffet dinner since we've gotten back (now 4 months ago.) We've never found the all-inclusive to be worth it, but it might be now. The bites bar menu has to get better. It's a disgrace. As i mentioned in my last review, the changes last December were terrible. I'm not sure what they were thinking by turning the menu into a slightly better version of McDonald's. People don't vacation in Mexico in a 4/5 star resort for crappy fast food. At least bring back some pseudo-Mexican food. After a day or 2 at the pool, we were forced to go back to the room and have lunch each day. Pretty sad when we're eating lunch meat sandwiches in the room in Mexico. The prices also increased last December when the peso was 22:1 (for like a month...) The prices are a bit high now with a 17:1 - 19:1 exchange rate. If the prices are similar to Florida resorts, it's harder to make the journey down to villa del palmar. We've already replaced 2 trips there and replaced it with Clearwater Beach. The resorts in the US aren't as nice, but it's a little easier to get there. My one big question i still have is why they can't get figure how to clean up their beach? They have the most seaweed on their beach compared to any resort I've ever stayed in (we take 4 beach trips per year!) I just can't figure out why they have tons of people walking around the resort barely cleaning (because it's so clean) and nearly no one on the beach cleaning. 2 mornings I saw equipment make 1 or 2 passes on the beach and get about 20% of the seaweed and stop. It really wouldn't be that hard to clean it up, it's a small beach. I just can't figure out why such a nice play has such a dirty beach. I've never ever seen it anywhere else we've stayed. It sounds like a lot of negatives and it's not. We really love coming to this place. It's beautiful with a great staff. They are so close to being an elite resort and are letting small things stand in their way.

My two friends and I stayed 11/4-11/11. Upon check in, Fausto helped us get the room location we requested. We were offered the guest room to change/shower, etc since we arrived at 6:30am. Our first experience was resting at the pool. Two people provided us awesome greetings and great service: 1) server: we called him Candy because it was an easy to remember name. He always had a smile and was very sweet and appreciative of any tips. 2) pool service attendant: Alekskei Romero. We called him Alex bcus it was easier to remember too. He was always greeting us daily with a huge smile and offer of help. He was very motivated and seemed to take ownership of making sure we were happy, no matter what we needed. The daily housekeeping in 1602A was so awesome and she worked so hard each time I would walk in on her working. I don't know her name, but have a picture. The Swing bar at the beach was awesome and Manuel always took great care of us. My other fav place was the little bar by the steakhouse. Sergio and his partner made awesome drinks and always had good recommendations if we didn't know what we wanted. Awesome bartenders!!! Thank you for the great treatment!!

First off - my boyfriend and I are not super "resort people". Meaning, we generally stay at smaller hotels for more personalized, private experiences. However, we did go into this knowing what we were getting into and having expectations as such. After all, the facilities looked great and convenient and we were not looking to spend more than 2 nights there. Positives: -There is staff everywhere (if you have a question there are 400 people to try to help you answer it) -You don't have to worry about having pesos, unless you want them for tips -Everyone speaks English - the majority of the resort was occupied by English speakers/Americans so it is somewhat catered to that -The food at some spots wasn't bad - although definitely American prices (we did not get the all inclusive plan) -The hammock on the balcony is a dream & the ocean view is also not bad at all -Proximity to the Isla Mujeres ferry where the best beach in Mexico is -They have real coffee! -Everyone was generally super friendly and although it is a large resort, it is not hard to find corners of privacy if you look. Additionally the adults only areas are really nice -BREAKFAST BUFFET - hell yeah. Its hard to mess that up. -Pools are great, towels everywhere and a million chairs to choose from Negatives: -We saw reviews about weird charges on the bill so we declined to do their weird policy of putting down your card with a deposit of 190 USD and then drawing from that credit for purchases - what wasn't explained was that we would no be able to receive room service and pay with card like we did at every other place in the resort. That was a bummer. -Went into the steakhouse to get dessert and was told that they do not serve just dessert and that you have to buy a meal first - I mean thats just a really dumb rule that makes them look greedy as hell -Food at the Bites place is really gross and not worth the money -Internet is 10$ a day per device, come on. -The beach is fine but not great which is not their fault but I would suggest taking the ferry for a really perfect beach -The sounds in the hallway are super loud -We had asked for a King bed but they gave us what they said was 2 queens but what was 100% a full size bed and the beds were completely lopsided, sinking on one side - I pre-paid through booking.com and that was acknowledged when I checked in and also when I express checked out the night before we left. However, when we went to return our room cards the next day a front desk employee told us that we hadn't paid for the estate. I explained that we had and it was verified and we had already checked out technically and he said that the note said that we hadn't. He asked if I had any sort of confirmation and I said yes and began looking through my phone for it. While doing that, he said he would have to charge my card for the balance. He acted as if he didn't believe me which was incredibly rude and when I showed him the email confirmation he took my phone, looked at it and without apologizing or explaining what was happening, handed it to another woman who talked on the phone for 5 minutes in front of us while we were left in the dark. She was able to verify we paid and she apologized but that left a really bad taste in our mouth. Overall: The customer experience policies at this resort are confusing. I don't need a napkin laid on my lap by the hostess but I would definitely like to be able to order room service without a deposit and receive a real apology when being demanded I pay hundreds of dollars I had already paid.

I went back to Villa del Palmar with my wife. This was our second visit, we had been there in January, now again in late October. Nothing really had changed about the resort itself. As mentioned in a previous review, they were doing construction on another resort which is adjacent to building three. We stayed in building two. We were not as impacted by the construction in building two. Even outside at the pool, we really did not hear any noise, just saw a crane moving over building three. The beach has great soft white sand, but it gets a lot of seaweed washed up on it and you can’t really walk very far, before you come to the ferry dock in one direction and then there is nothing in the other direction and it kind of degrades. The staff is fantastic, they are all very friendly and personable. The resort is very nice, but it is a bit isolated. There is really nothing to do right there. It is not in walking distance of anything except for the slow vehicle ferry to the Isle of Mujeres. The restaurants are good, we liked the Japanese restaurant the best. We went to the Mediterranean restaurant the first night. The waiter decided on his own that it was our anniversary and after our entree he made us Bananas Foster. It was good but my wife doesn’t like bananas and it was not what I wanted for desert, but we were never asked. They have an all inclusive package. All of their prices are inflated, the cost for two people at breakfast was about $62.00, so the all inclusive is worth considering. We were in a one bedroom lockout, after a couple of days the toilet in the second bathroom began to run. We left a note for our maid, but nothing happened, it still ran. So my wife fixed it. That’s what guests do at a four star resort, fix their own toilet . . . Right? As part of our package we had to attend a sales presentation. It was a VERY HARD sell. After we turned down the first two attempts, we got the third sell. This guy told us he was the uncle of two very famous NFL quarterback brothers, one active one retired. The only thing is . . . their very famous former NFL quarterback father does’t have a brother. Makes you wonder, if they lied about that, what else are they willing to lie about?
