This hotel is perfect from every aspect. The lobby staff was friendly and efficient. The rooms were large and comfortable with a few of the pools. The pool itself is surrounded by lawn on which the pool furniture is place making for a cooler respite. They save your chair each day and provide first class service. The breakfast buffet was large and perfect in every way.

I have not been to the Mount Nelson for a while. The entrance and tea and lounge areas have been redecorated along with the Planet Bar furniture. Really well done. Some lovely wooden chairs and a general ‘African’ theme. We dined in the Planet Restaurant. A lovely menu. There is beef Wellington for two to share. The four of us elected to share two. Excellent. They are carved at the table. Interesting sides - a little saucepan of Béarnaise sauce, a jug of red wine reduction jus, roast potatoes, al dente steamed vegetables and a chef salad. Perfect accompaniments. It’s always worrying for a chef to know that the pastry is browned and crisp but that the fillet is sufficiently cooked. Both of these Wellingtons were cooked wonderfully. It’s a nice treat for two and I would definitely have it again. I will just be more careful with the delicious bread to ensure I have room.

The high tea at Mount Nelson Hotel was a great end of the day. The ambiance is perfect, the staff thoughtful and most important the dishes served for the high tea were spectaculair. If you decide on a high tea, do it at Mount Nelson!

The hotel and grounds are spectacular, to say the least. The room as well as the bathroom were impeccable. The included breakfast was one of the best hotel breakfasts that I have ever had, though the service for coffee was a tad slow. But everything else was spectacular. One note. We were booked with a large group. All other members of the group were given a room with a king bed. We were the notable exception, leaving us to wonder why (two family names? same sex couple?) We were too tired to say anything when we got to the room and simply pushed the beds together. When brought to the attention of the hotel, they offered to set the bed up as a king for us. Management should have either provided us with the same set-up as all others or asked our preference, rather than leave us with the question that has only inappropriate answers.

I visited the Mount Nelson for a week in December, and everything was simply perfect! My room was in the main building, and it was very interesting to stay in such a historic hotel. The breakfast was delicious (pretty much everything one could ask for) and the afternoon tea was also a wonderful experience. The hotel is on the pricey side, but it was worth every penny!
