We loved this hotel. The service was excellent: friendly but not fussy. They knew when to leave us alone. Some hotels are almost too much whereby 2-3 nights are enough. This place feels so relaxed and we weren't ready to leave after 5 nights. The concierge service was excellent: they booked numerous trips for us including whale watching and wine tasting. However, make sure they are sure on their timings The lounges and restaurants are lovely while the grounds have that lovely sub-tropical feel with an army of gardeners. The room is not as luxurious as a comparable hotel in the UK, however the bed was incredibly comfortable and the bed linen so soft. Try the chef's table with the tasting menu - it was such a fun evening. The food was beautifully prepared although I wouldn't bother with the wine flight. If I had a slight criticism it would be that the wine list is not as good as other restaurants we tried in the area. I wouldn't stay anywhere else

We stayed in this hotel when in Cape Town and were extremely satisfied with the accommodation and service provided. It was very secure and we were able to get assistance on visiting other restaurants in the city. The restaurant named Nelson’s Eye was just across the road from the hotel and the reputation of providing the best fillet steak in Cape Town was certainly true.

Famous old Hotel in Cape Town that offers an old school afternoon tea experience! Staff were attentive and the surrounding was beautiful especially if you can sit outside and enjoy the ambiance of the beautiful grounds. Well worth a visit to this historic building!

Tea at the Mount Nelson essential Our experience was less than satisfactory, nothing wrong but the event did not flow smoothly; seated inside until a terrace table became available then forgotten until one of the many waiters summoned; clearer supervision needed; the sandwiches were too thick and dried out; the cakes looked much better than they tasted; the whole experience not comfortable

Another wonderful experience at the Belmond. After staying at the Belmond Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro not too long ago (and loving it), decided to give this hotel a try during a recent visit to Cape Town. While I was only there for a very short stay, the staff was warm and attentive and the service was excellent, from the moment I stepped into the hotel until the time I left. The superior room I stayed in was spacious and beautiful with an old world charm. The only minor flaw was when one of the staff members came into the room thinking the room was empty (I was granted a late checkout and they must have assumed I had vacated the room already); fortunately I was full clothed and just packing up so no harm done. Good buffet breakfast, didn't get a chance to use the pool but looked wonderful, good gym, and lovely area for afternoon tea/coffee. Highly recommended.
