About the Hotel

Dating back to 1682, the Steenberg Hotel is an exquisite historic wine farm set in the foothills of South Africa's magnificent Constantia Valley. Although just 20 minutes from the center of Cape Town, this serene set of buildings - declared an official National Monument - is its own seductive world, surrounded by vineyards and an 18-hole championship golf course. The buildings have been lovingly restored and decorated traditionally with antiques in elegant 17th-century style. In your delightful guest room or suite, you will discover a wealth of treats, which may include a romantic patio with views of the vines and fairways.

Reviews for Steenberg Hotel

A truly beautiful, well run and located, hotel..

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 2 days ago

The hotel was first class in every way. Great service from Heinricht before booking, and this continued with all the staff, throughout our stay. Beautiful room, with pretty little courtyard. Fabulous breakfasts served at your table. The breakfast area enabled you to feel that you were eating amongst the vines. Dinner in both the tapas and more formal restaurant, was very good indeed and our complementary wine tasting was a really unexpected treat. Such a beautiful & chic location, amazing wines and service second to none. We provided some constructive feedback to Philippa, the wonderful Front of House Manager, and her lovely Assistant Manager (sorry forgot your name), This was that a bar area would be a great enhancement. There was apparently a bar there previously and this could apparently be relatively easily, reinstated. There was only a very small but pretty public lounge, which wasn’t really a space to mingle and meet other guests. All the outdoor spaces, such as the terraces were however lovely. Terrace outside our room had wonderful, regular visitors - a family of owls! Amazing to see! The swimming pool area was very nice indeed but for us just too shaded. We tended to sit out in the orchard garden behind the pool. Again, we shared feedback that this area could be enhanced by adding cabanas or similar, to make it feel a more integrated section between the pool and the beautiful new spa. A beautiful hotel, very well managed, with first class staff and food. Although it centres around a champions golf course, for non golfers, it was also a perfect environment in which to stay. It is very well located for all Constanta wineries and Kalk Bay/Noordhoek area.. We will most definitely return!

Our Steenberg - Constantia holiday

This hotel is an absolute gem. It is a heritage estate set among the vines, and yet feels so contemporary and has exquisite facilities matched by tremendous staff. The food, the facilities, the gardens, the elegant yet happily homely decor makes this a place like no other and definitely the best in the Cape.

Perfect honeymoon stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

We stayed here on our honeymoon for a week as base to explore Cape Town. It was the absolute perfect location - outside the busy centre and a tranquil place to relax, but within easy reach of the centre and the winelands to go sight seeing. Everyone we encountered was very friendly. Clint really looked after us especially, helping us organise excursions which were all perfect. The food was absolutely exceptional throughout. Our room was really pretty and the grounds were peaceful and very well looked after. We couldn't have asked for a better stay in Cape Town and hope we can come back one day!

Short but memorable stay

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 month ago

Unfortunately just one night stay with family of three in two rooms. Everything was just perfect; grounds, facilities, food at Tryn and the very helpful staff. Only comment was that pricing during top holiday season was quite high, also for non SA standards - but worth it

The Steenberg is absolutely beautiful and the staff couldn't have been more gracious, friendly and professional. The food at Cathrina's restaurant was beautifully prepared and the service was exceptional. The property offers lots to do but the staff also gave us the option do using their transportation to visit other wine properties in the area as well as other fine restaurants. Though only 30 minutes from the heart of Cape Town you are truly in the country and away from it all. My wife and I would go back and stay for a week in a heart beat and it is a must on the next visit to South Africa.” L. The restaurant at the hotel is excellent and is a great place to celebrate - the high quality of the Steenberg wine helps!

We stayed in the hotel for 5 days. Playing 18 holes on the Steenberg golf course is an experience I'll never miss. So we decided already to go again!

We stayed at the Steenberg Hotel in September. We would very highly recommend Catharina's, the restaurant attached to the hotel. We couldn't find fault the food and service here - wonderful.

Steenberg was recommended to us by a friend. South Africa is wonderful and a stay at Steenberg makes it complete.
