Caesar Augustus in Capri, Italy

Regally poised on a cliff 1,000 feet above the sea, Hotel Caesar Augustus carries on a tradition of extravagance that once made Italy's Isle of Capri a playground for Roman emperors. At this stunning Relais & Chateaux property, you might stay in a suite named after its spectacular views of Mount Vesuvius or the Egyptian king who lived in it for a year. Guest rooms are equally enticing, with their private balconies gazing across the Bay of Naples. From the marvelous infinity pool to the celebration of regional flavors at Lucullo Terrace, each detail is a seductive celebration of good living.

From your base at this former 19th-century private manor, you will savor unparalleled tranquility, while at the same time enjoying access to the island's dramatic coastline, citrus groves and terraced vineyards. Trace ancient Roman routes as you explore the legacy of Emperor Tiberius, including the excavations of Damecuta and the intriguing Villa Jovis. The chairlift to the top of Mount Solaro boasts breathtaking views, while a boat trip around the island will take you to the famed Blue Grotto, where the refraction of light has long captivated artists.

Just returned from a 6 wk Europe family "road trip". First stop Naples, then Positano, then Capri, before moving on to Greece, Switzerland, Austria and the UK. So this review is comparing the experience at CA with everything else. Best view ever, best food ever, best tapas ever (on the patio), best infinity pool ever, best historical site ever, best garden ever, best restaurant seating (w/views) and service was top notch. Owner met us upon arrival and walked us to our car upon checkout. Elegant guests all wanting the Capri experience but not in the hustle bustle of the village. A great escape. Only negative is you need a taxi for everything. $30US one way each time you head into the village. The hotel has a car service for guests when arriving/leaving only. Not allowed to shuttle guests due to Capri Taxi monopoly. But this 3 day experience was breathtaking. Will go back for sure.

What an absolutely great hotel, right from the start of our visit. Met as soon as we arrived by concierge with a welcome drink and taken on a tour of the impressive facilities, grounds etc. Met the owner while on the tour and you can tell he really takes pride in the hotel, saw him at a few points throughout our stay, making sure everything was as it should be. We were celebrating part of our honeymoon while staying here and the hotel very kindly provided us a complimentary bottle of prosecco. The view from the terrace is simply outstanding and is exactly the same as the picture you see online. The rooms and staff are excellent, nothing is too much trouble for them and they are very attentive. Would definitely recommend booking a sea view room-wonderful views from your balcony and some great sunset views in the evening. The food in the restaurants and breakfast is also of a really good standard. So much of the food comes from the organic garden within the hotel grounds and it's great that so much of the produce is picked freshly that day, the flavours are just excellent. The only slight downside is the lack of a less formal dining option in the evenings. However, overall a truly wonderful hotel and one of the best I have ever stayed at.

Ok this place is a huge splurge/ but its worth it if you are seeking a refuge from chaos of Capri / its truly an oasis. Clientele was older or honeymooners given price point/ never felt stuffy thanks to great staff and hands on approach of Francisco- the owners son. He was approachable and informative at all times. Rooms are modern - have tv and nice bathroom . No tub. Views of ocean and Capri breathtaking. Bkfst in lovely ocean front room by the pool was plentiful and delicious with very attentive staff- bkfst is included in your stay. We had dinner one night in the dining room. Favorite meal of our trip but very expensive. Pool is one of a kind. Workout area had a spectacular view - easy walk from hotel to Anacapri or a 25 euro cab ride back to Capri. Highly recommend

The property is beautiful but is broken into many levels. The problem is the elevator is to small for a wheelchair. My wife had to sit on a chair in the elevator while I ran up and down the stairs with her chair. Could not access the pool, spa or restaurant. The staff was helpful but it was a strong reminder to my wife that she has limitations. Not something she needs to feel self conscious about while on vacation.

Upon first arriving at Caesar Augustus, we were taken outside to the terrace and our jaws immediately dropped to the floor beneath us. The view is, quite simply, breathtaking. Besides the view, the hotel staff was friendly and very helpful and the owners, particularly the son, were always around the hotel making us feel welcome and assisting us in any way possible. Our room, a junior suite, was very nice --- spacious bathroom with a nice tub and great shower, a nice bed, and a nice terrace to admire the views from. Not the best room we have ever been in, but certainly comfortable and did I mention that view? The restaurant on property was nice and the food was good, only downside was 18 euros for a single limoncello. We've been all over Italy, and my spouse was a chef in Rome for 8 years, but never before have we seen a single limoncello cost that much. Ok, rant over --- otherwise it was a nice meal and worth it, but the limoncello still nags at my financial sensibilities. The pool is really nice and we enjoyed it, and again the view, quite a bit. Overall, terrific property, amazing view, helpful staff, and worth every penny we paid to stay there. Make sure to enjoy aperitivo on the terrace as the sun goes down!
