Caesar Augustus in Capri, Italy

Regally poised on a cliff 1,000 feet above the sea, Hotel Caesar Augustus carries on a tradition of extravagance that once made Italy's Isle of Capri a playground for Roman emperors. At this stunning Relais & Chateaux property, you might stay in a suite named after its spectacular views of Mount Vesuvius or the Egyptian king who lived in it for a year. Guest rooms are equally enticing, with their private balconies gazing across the Bay of Naples. From the marvelous infinity pool to the celebration of regional flavors at Lucullo Terrace, each detail is a seductive celebration of good living.

From your base at this former 19th-century private manor, you will savor unparalleled tranquility, while at the same time enjoying access to the island's dramatic coastline, citrus groves and terraced vineyards. Trace ancient Roman routes as you explore the legacy of Emperor Tiberius, including the excavations of Damecuta and the intriguing Villa Jovis. The chairlift to the top of Mount Solaro boasts breathtaking views, while a boat trip around the island will take you to the famed Blue Grotto, where the refraction of light has long captivated artists.

We recently married at Caesar-Augustus and things could not have been more perfect or stress free! The views are spectacular, the food phenomenal and the staff cannot be beat! The bad thing about staying here is that from now on, wherever we stay, the place will not compare. Caesar-Augustus sets the bar very high and we look forward to returning.

Stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. The service was very attentive -- In their confirmation e-mail, the hotel mentioned that shuttle service was included, but I didn't bother to book their shuttle as I planned to spend a couple of hours for shopping in Naples, and I just planned to take taxi to hotel afterwards. While in Naples, I received a call from hotel staff asking me when I would arrive, I told I haven't bought ferry ticket yet, the staff asked me to call them back once I bought ferry ticket as they would arrange shuttle for me. It was Easter weekend when I arrived and Capri port was really crowded and a bit chaotic. It was great that they arranged shuttle service as it would be a big difficult to get a taxi I think. After arriving the hotel, the staff offered us welcome drinks and showed us around the hotel, their poor, garden etc, the atmosphere was very relaxing. The room was spacious and the view cannot be better (we had a cliff-side sea view room). The drinks in mini-bar were complimentary. Breakfast was top-notch, love their home-made pastries and jams. Their restaurant for dinner was great too. The location of the hotel is good. Anacapri is more peaceful than Capri, yet there are still plenty to see. The hotel is located within 5-10 minutes of walk from bus station. The room rate is a bit pricey but it's really worth it. I would love to stay there again.

I highly recommend the Caesar Augustus Relaix Chateaux hotel. The service and genuine hospitality match the surrounding beauty of the building and grounds. This is a first class run hotel by Francesco' s family. Standards are expected without being stuffy or boorish. And for someone like me who has experience with botanical gardens I would say that the gardens are world class in design, functionality and beauty. The terraced vegetable gardens that source the farm to table restaurant are a complete joy. We hope to return to Capri in the near future and stay at the Caesar Augustus again. Enjoy. And thank you Nicole for an excellent introduction to the property!

A beautiful property with amazing views - every part of the property has great attention to detail and you should spend some time exploring the grounds and gardens. The rooms are immaculate and very well presented. The staff are very attentive and we were particularly impressed with the son of the owner who greeted us on our arrival and made us feel completely comfortable. I would recommend this property to everyone - and I have very rarely said that - and I also very rarely write reviews but this property and stay deserved it. If you are thinking of going to Capri then stay here.

The Caesar Augustus is one of those rare places that your heart aches for the minute you set foot on the property, well before you even have to leave (warning: the heartache unfortunately only gets worse once you return home!). In three words: classy, gorgeous, warm. As the second guests on opening day this April, we received an effusive welcome from the Signori father / son duo who were charming beyond belief (especially Francesco, who couldn't contain his excitement about having upgraded us to the Caesar suite in honor of our honeymoon!). The suite was MASSIVE and had the most stunningly beautiful views of the ocean and Mt. Vesuvius. Every night there was a piano player inside the main terrace bar, where the drinks are chilled to perfection. Each of the staff members goes out of their way to make you feel like a celebrity - warmly greeting you every time you re-enter the building (never got annoying even for someone that generally prefers her space), sending you specialty cocktails "just to test out" and making great suggestions of local places to visit. The sunsets are out of this world and the infinity pool is breathtaking. This was by far the best place we stayed on our honeymoon and we are already planning our next trip back - this time for an entire week versus a paltry three days!!! The decor is a perfect mix of Italian (beautiful painted tiles in bathrooms, canopy beds, uncarpeted tile floors, busts of Caesar) and luxe, without being over the top, tacky and / or overly stylized. It embodies classy. You feel at home (okay at home as if you were an aristocrat in the early 1900s) and your mind wanders to places you haven't visited in ages! Anacapri also beats Capri by a long-shot. Way less touristy and shops are more specialized and unique to the island (art, prints, ceramics). No brainer (and I am extremely picky!).
