Reviews for Carefree Resort & Conference Center

a great spa weekend

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 1 week ago

We'd been going to Miraval for a few years, and the prices were just too high for us. So my sister suggested that we try Civana for a girls' family weekend - mom, sister, niece, and partner went for two nights. We did the all-inclusive package which included two wonderful spa treatments (partner and I tried deep tissue and facials) - and both were amazing. Rooms were quiet, clean, spacious and had wonderful mattresses (I need to ask them about those, I haven't slept so well in a while). Classes were good. They were for younger women than us. And the intermediate hike we did was fantastic. Loved the pools - and the included food service (and extra for drinks) around both pools. Liked the food better at Miraval (missed those wonderful breakfast and lunch buffets), but the food was very good in the main dining room. Excellent scallops and filet mignon. Most everything was gluten and dairy free. The snack bar's muffins tasted vegan and gluten-free. I would definitely return. The all-inclusive was really all-inclusive. No extra charges for gratuities. Our hike cost a bit extra - and so did alcohol. Service everywhere was excellent. A truly wonderful place in a lovely setting - and only about 40 minutes from PHX.

RR at Civana

Great stay at Civana! Took advantage of their all-inclusive package where you get a spa/massage once a night. The massages were terrific! And you get access to the entire spa if you book a massage. The staff, everyone was friendly and great! The yoga classes were relaxing - yes, it's true, some people did fall asleep and snore lol, but didn't bother me so much. There is only one restaurant, but you can go offsite and downtown Carefree is cute as they come. We biked there on there free bikes. We weren't given locks and left they out and was safe. The only thing is the food is not that great if you're a vegetarian. A lot of jackfruit options, but not much else. My friend said chicken was dry, but fish and filet mignon was good.

Nice resort but can outside music and instructors with microphones!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 3 weeks ago

Beautiful resort but stop using bullhorns in the exercise classes! I was impressed with the facility and very thought out healthful menus in the restaurand, and the very nice grounds, but couldn't believe you allow Yoga and arobics. Instructors to use sound amplification in such a quiet place, ruining any kind of a setting for meditation and contemplation. And sometimes the classes were accompanied by music from speakers as well. It was so loud.It echoed off the walls and completely ruined my experience. This is a wellness resort and should not require such offensive.classes. I'm sure the participants on neaeby mats are fully capable of hearing somebody's natural voice.

A Wellness Playground Resort.

Tucked away among 20 acres in the Sonoran desert is the CIVANA Wellness & Spa. Between a world class spa, wellness classes & studios, healthy cuisine and welcoming accommodations, the CIVANA offers the very best in wellness experiences. My Spa King was so delightful with walk out patio affording breathtaking views of the Continental Mountains and a beautiful bath with all the accoutrements. There are 2 on-property restaurants: the Seed, a cafe & specialty market establishment serving up breakfast items from grain bowls and smoothies to custom juice concoctions while the Terras is the signature dinner destination with the muscle of the menu illustrating items such as : Roasted Branzino, Elk Tenderloin, Sea Scallops and more. I wolfed down the Vegetable Soup and the Salmon....tasty items. Movement is upper most at the resort.........their mantra is 'a body in motion is a happy body'. Guests are invited to take advantage of more than a dozen complementary movement & fitness classes. I participated in a morning hike and a TRX training session. CIVANA's 22000 sq. ft. state-of-the-art spa offers a wide range of therapeutic and rejuvenating treatments focused on 'healing through water'. Facilities include therapy pools, 25 meter pool, sundeck, salon and more. The spa incorporates the art of 'healing through water' in a hydrotherapy circuit of hot & cold pools and cool waterfall shower. I was treated to this watery therapy prior to my Revive to Thrive Massage & Body treatment..........what a watery blast. So, if you are looking for top notch facilities that provide a healthy and serene get-away .....................then try the ................CIVANA Wellness Resort & Spa...........a wellness playground resort.

I feel Brand NEW!!! It was Fantastic Getaway!!

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 4 weeks ago

It was just what I needed: to reconnect with nature. And that is what Civana is all about. The views are absolutely amazing!! I am from NC and to wake up to mountains and cacti every morning was fantastic. I will do a pro/con list that seems to work better for my reviews. Pros: -The staff was very accommodating. I wanted to move from the room close to the pool, which wasn't a bad view, but I was not interested in people. The front desk accommodated and moved me so I could see the picturesque mountains. The problem was solved immediately. -The rooms were great, the bed was comfortable, the carpet was fine it looks like the room was recently updated -Loved the bathroom, great shower -You can do as much (classes for everything, cardio, meditation, yoga) or as little as you want, or you can chill by the pool and read a great book. -The spa is AMAZING!!! I have been to a number of spas in my life and this one was top-notch. It was huge with wonderful wonderful views; I had a service that day and spent all day there; it was so wonderful not to rush to do anything I didn't even wear a watch. Thus I only did 1 class a day and chilled the rest of the time -I went on the paid Desert Bathing tour. It was GREAT!! I think the paid classes were such a wonderful price, worth trying something out of the ordinary -I rented a car and actually enjoyed the small carefree town. -The rooms were cleaned every day, and I really liked that. I left a tip the last day; they did a great job. -I fell in love with the Green Machine juice from the Seed Cafe. I tried to make it at home, and it was not quite the same, but I tried. -The pace there is slow; which is not a bad thing; it caused me to really slow down and enjoy being present. -I wasn't even concerned about wifi; they may have it but I didn't even ask!! (That was a freeing feeling, not locked to social media) Cons: -The food is a little pricey, it was ok, but it is a resort; I found I didn't eat as much (which I actually felt better and slept better without a ton of food). -The staff is on their phones a lot, I didn't mind it at all, but they should keep in mind people are watching them which can affect their tips. Recommendations (Do) *Rent a Car so that you can leave the resort and check out the town of Carefree. Driving was fine in Arizona, and you could go to the grocery store and buy snacks and things to eat in the room. There are great restaurants in town. *Leave stress, work, and your time schedule at home. Go and be present. Bring a good book and ENJOY the scenery.

“The grounds were beautiful, the rooms were ok, kind of like an updated holiday inn, I had to remind them of the strawberries and wine that was supposed to be in the room. The staff was friendly and the location of the hotel was great.”
