Reviews for Carmel Valley Ranch

Disappointing and overpriced

TripAdvisor Traveler Review Rating Reviewed 22 hours ago

We came here super excited to be going on our first getaway with our 3 month old. While the staff is genuinely friendly and the dining options are a high point, Carmel Valley Ranch significantly underdelivers on the premium experience it markets, particularly for families. The Cons: Frustrating Logistics: The check-in process is unclear, and the main parking lot/valet area is a zoo. Not as Family-Friendly as described: Despite being advertised as stroller-friendly, navigating the property with one is a massive hassle. There’s nowhere to walk a stroller at the top really, the main rooms are on a very steep slope and the path down to the actual good places to walk is either on a road with cars or a dirt path. Worse, requests for advertised family amenities—like a diaper pail— were never delivered on. Lacking Maintenance & Cleanliness: For the price point, the housekeeping and upkeep are unacceptable. The room had dirty floors, cobwebs in the corners, and visible scuffs and marks. I almost tripped over an exposed outlet that was covered in aluminum foil?? Overall just really dated and damaged facilities. The attached photos are only a small sampling. Poor Sleep Quality: The bed and pillows were highly uncomfortable, making it difficult to get a decent night's rest. The Pros: Service & Dining: The saving grace of the property is its people, who are universally nice and welcoming. The on-site restaurants also serve excellent food. Overall Verdict: I used a mix of points and cash with the Chase Edit to stay here and this was still the most overpriced hotel stay of my life. If I paid full price I would have been livid.

Wonderful staff! Highlights of the stay were: Bailey the beekeeper was an excellent teacher. Also enjoyed the ranch with the baby goats. The pools were very fun! Cheese maker was also very informative. Rooms were comfortable.

Carmel Valley Ranch exceeded every expectation! From the moment we arrived, we felt like we had escaped into a peaceful luxury retreat surrounded by rolling hills, vineyards, and breathtaking natural beauty. The property is impeccably maintained, with stunning views in every direction. Whether you're walking the trails, relaxing by the pool, or simply enjoying the scenery from your room, every moment feels peaceful and rejuvenating. The rooms are spacious, beautifully designed, and offer the perfect balance of comfort and elegance. The staff was warm, welcoming, and genuinely committed to making our stay memorable. Every interaction was friendly and professional, and the level of hospitality truly stood out. Amazing stay near Carmel

We stayed at Camel Valley Ranch with our two young kids and loved how spacious the king suite was. Having that extra room setup for the children meant we didn't feel cramped, which makes such a difference on a family trip. There was a minor hiccup with opening the sofa bed for the kids on the first night, but the staff fixed it immediately the next day without any fuss. Omar from check in reception welcomed us and offered our children toy ducks that got them excited on day one. Everyone from the River Ranch to the cheese makers provided excellent service. The resort amenities were excellent. The heated pool at 89 degrees was perfect when the weather outside was only in the low 70s and cloudy. My kids wanted to stay in the water all day. The fitness center was spacious with plenty of equipment, and the bathroom felt almost like a spa with how clean and well-designed it was. As a Globalist, the in-room dining breakfast benefit was genuinely convenient. Not having to rush outside when the kids woke up hungry made for a peaceful, efficient morning start. The little complementary activities like meeting the cheese maker, greeting the animals, and making s'mores were nice touches. They weren't mandatory, but having those options available without extra cost was appreciated. We didn't get to any of the pay activities this time, but I'd definitely consider them for a next visit. The whole resort has this serene, recharging vibe that made it the perfect escape. I'd recommend staying at least two nights to really soak in the experience. The location is also convenient as a base to explore Carmel by the Sea or drive the scenic 17-Mile Drive, which is less than 20 minutes away.

A wonderful outdoor getaway for the whole family!

We had a great experience for both the kids and the dogs. The kids chose to participate in Junior Ranching and Archery every single day and had an absolute blast. The instructors for each activity were fantastic with the children and made everything even more fun. The location is peaceful, and the hiking trails were beautiful. We'd happily return!
