This place is great for the whole fam, even the dog. The rooms are cozy, each with their own fireplace and super soft throws. It rained while we were there, but it was great to stay in and play cards near that fire. The property is gorgeous and the food is yummy too. Only negative is we can't use the hot tub that looks over the valley now that we have a baby as it's in an adults-only area.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Carmel Valley Ranch. Our room was absolutely beautiful--it was so wonderful to lie in bed and listen to the birds while looking out to the wonderful landscape. The service at all levels of our stay was excellent. We can't wait to come back!

I've been to resorts across the globe - Bali, Miami, Dubai - this is one of the most gorgeous, fun resorts I've been to. The crowd can be a bit pretentious during dinner in the restaurant but we made some great friends there even hanging out by the pool. Amazing hiking on site, gorgeous rooms, so relaxing and loved the fire pits. (Just be careful of the swarming kids who descend during smores time, they will take your eye out with flaming sticks). The hot tub was amazing. We stopped here on our way back from Big Sur last fall (living in NYC.) The rooms are absolutely one of the most relaxing places I've ever stayed (I travel a lot for work). Gorgeous!

Our 5 day family vacation included a newborn, toddler, young couples and grandparents. All enjoyed the resort and would return, but I have some significant suggestions for needed improvements. Virtually across the board the staff and management were caring, friendly and helpful. Special call out to Ty who was assigned to guest check ins. He remained a source of assistance throughout our stay. I stayed in a vineyard studio with a stone tub on the balcony. This room had one of the worst features of any resort. The "door" of the amply sized bathroom slid across the opening, with a one inch gap all around. When you rolled the door closed, it slowly started to roll back. If you were lucky it only left a 4 to 6 inch portion unclosed, although on occasion it rolled entirely open. There was no bathroom privacy. On a lesser note, the room was quite large, but was so minimally furnished that it looked barren and certainly was not cozy. Other family had a much smaller vineyard studio with balcony, with appropriate furnishings. The views over the valley and golf course were beautiful. The main dining room needs improvement. We only had dinner there one night since there was an hour and a half gap between appetizers and main course. A 2 and a half hour dinner was not what our group had in mind. The manager told us that they had to tend to larger groups, but if we came back again he would show us how they could get things right. Breakfast buffet on the weekend was ample but not memorable. We ordered orange juice in addition, at $5 a glass, asking if it was fresh squeezed. It was not. Ordering off the menu was not a good solution. One morning we ordered rancho nuevos and it was delicious, so was an order of the salmon omelette, and an order of fluffy ricotta pancakes. With great expectations we replicated the order the next morning and it was disastrous. The eggs were so oily it made my son ill, the ricotta pancakes looked like flattened regular pancakes minus the ricotta, and the salmon/lox omelette was prepared in a manner I would never have tried a second time. We loved some of their activity offerings, particularly kite making and flying for the whole family and archery. A couple loved the golf course. My 3 year old and I went out for chicken chat, but the staff member was a no show. The family pool area looked like fun but we were there for a cool stretch in May. All the gals had spa treatments which were pleasant, the surroundings a bit plain and underwhelming.

Carmel Valley is a great location to get away from the fog on the coast - 15 min drive and worth it. Hotel is high quality expensive and OK. Best aspect imo is the pool and the fire pit with toasted marshmallows. Golf not so much fun :-(
