Reviews for L'Auberge Carmel

The Ultimate in Comfort

Staying at this property is really a very special experience. You are made to feel right at home from the moment you check in. To a person, everyone you encounter is welcoming and committed to making sure you have a wonderful visit. Our room was very cozy and the bathroom, which appeared to have been recently updated, was beautiful. There is a lovely courtyard where we sat in the afternoon relaxing in the sun and listening to the trickling water of the fountain. The bar at night, though small, is still a great place to sit and absorb the ambiance. Overall a relaxing memorable get away which will make us long to return.

Disappointing hotel. Superb restaurant.

The hotel has great charm and is well located. L’aubergine is superb. However the hotel and service needs attention. The room is nice but not 5 star level, flaws included my mattress needing replacement, a chronically clogged sink and constant noise from exterior machinery. The room minibar is empty. Be aware that Public spaces are minimal. There is courtyard seating but unusable in rain or chill. The front desk phone often goes unanswered. Staff is certainly nice but not highly service oriented. I would say def dine here but stay elsewhere.

Carmel’s finest Hotel

The L’Auberge in Carmel is a unique property- old school with rooms decorated in a tasteful and charming way, everything just works. The art of hospitality, something lost at many hotels, is very evident here. It’s all about the location, just a block away from the main strip yet very quiet and undisturbed. A short walk down the hill past Carmel’s legendary cottages to the ocean creates a nice feel of being in the midst of the Carmel lifestyle. Several excellent restaurants are in walking distance - starting with the Auberge’s own at the property. We loved our room overlooking the street in front of the hotel with a glimpse of the ocean in the distance. The included breakfast was excellent and cocktails in their intimate saloon a good start to the evening. The included valet parking was extremely useful in Carmel with the car brought quickly. Service was uniformly excellent. Be advised there are steps on the property and no elevators.

My wife and I recently returned to L"Auberge Carmel for a lovely stay again. Monica Munoz and her team are so welcoming, and they provide a first class experience. The hotel is in a perfect location, and the service is impeccable. I have been going to this hotel for 14 years, and continue to me amazed at their kindness, and willingness to assist you as a customer. A special thanks for Ary for turn down service, Monica for her welcoming spirit, and the front desk staff for their kindness each day.

A Mixed Blessing

The service varied between terrific or not so hot. We booked a room for our 50th Wedding Anniversary. Graciously, we were upgraded at no additional cost. The room was comforable as was the bed. However, we could hear the people on the floor above us walking and flushing the toilet plus a jack hammer on the street below woke us up at 6:55 a.m. We had a marvelous meal in the restaurant (Aubergine). The food was exquisite. However, I was told at the time I made the reservation that dinner was more expensive than normal because it included wine pairing. However, that was not accurate as we had to pay extra for wine. I had ordered flowers for our table to be delivered the day of our dinner. I confirmed with the florist and when I arrived, the receptionist said that the flowers had not been delivered. I called the florist back and she said they had been delivered at 1:30 p.m. She later said she had to call the hotel three times before the restaurant confirmed that they had the flowers. However, in general, the staff was courteous, helpful, and thoughtful.
